If you've got similar interests to me then you will no doubt have seen many videos featuring trains working along the West Highland line and been inspired to recreate something similar on your layout. In my case it was a video uploaded by RMPOWLS depicting the West Highland line in 1999/2000
    • WEST HIGHLAND LINE 199...
At approx 10 minutes into the video there is footage of a double-headed class 37 hauling a rake of Cargowaggon/Ferryvans and it inspired me to attempt to recreate it on my garden layout, though it's taken me a long time to actually get round to doing it. I've had a few Heljan Cargowaggons for some time now and more recently acquired a couple of RevolutioN Trains Holdalls. Up to now they've been on a shelf, looking far too clean, so yesterday I made a start dirtying them up a bit - nothing too harsh but non too clean. Fortunately they have all escaped the attention of graffiti artists, at least up to now!
The same video mentioned above was the reason I acquired the EWS class 37's and decided to use them double-headed.
This video is the first running of the complete rake after initial weathering and having worked on them up in the attic it seemed sensible to give them a run up there before they are transferred down to the garden layout.
I am looking forward to getting them onto Worsley Dale very soon providing the 2 IWA holdalls can manage to stay on the track where some of the similar log carriers failed to do so.

Great looking and sounding Locoes and stock on a well scenified layout.
Look forward to seeing them run down the incline 😃 to the Garden Section.

I don't envisage there being a connecting link anytime soon LOL! but yes, it would make things easier. Just have to keep climbing and carrying for now.

Looking forward to seeing this on the garden railway. Interesting what you say about derailments. I have a mass of old Lima, Hornby, Mainline, Airfix, etc which operate on my layout with no problem whatsoever, but the few new Bachmann items I have seem reluctant to stay within the confines of the road over a couple of Hornby points. The Peco one's are fine. I've not done much investigation, and the layout is now dismantled, but those points have been marked not to be used again. I always find it somewhat bizarre though that the more modern an item is the more problems I seem to have with them... Anyway, I best stop rambling and get on planning, hope to start building a garden test track at the weekend!

The finer standards to which models are now being produced highlights the need for us to be extra careful when laying track. It's no longer sufficient just to lay track and pin it down without first ensuring that it's level especially across the rail tops which is often overlooked. The latest batch of models have very fine wheel flanges which just can't cope with uneven track as I've discovered. They're more or less okay indoors, though I have had a few minor problems, but outdoors is another story altogether and I had 2 or 3 IWA log carriers that simply wouldn't run on the garden layout without jumping off the track even after I'd spent a lot of time relaying and adjusting my track using miniature spirit levels. In the end I gave up and the log carriers are now used only indoors.
Take extra care with track laying in the garden and start with a good solid base.

Looks and sounds fantastic! What sound file is in the class 37? Cheers, Dave

Hi Dave. It's the Locoman soundfile on a D&H decoder with a Rail Exclusive Boom Box speaker in the fuel tanks.
