Politician Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen) and Roger Stuart (Anthony Zerbe) discuss campaign donations as Johnny (Christopher Walken) arrives.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Christopher Walken plays a schoolteacher, Johnny Smith, who awakens from a five-year coma. He discovers that he has acquired the ability to foretell a person's future simply by touching his or her hand. After seeing several examples, Smith's doctor (Herbert Lom) becomes convinced that Smith can not only predict the future, but also has the power to change it. This ability is given its severest test when Smith shakes the hand of ruthless political candidate Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen) -- and suddenly has a flash-forward to a nuclear holocaust. The Dead Zone is not only one of the best-ever Stephen King adaptations, but also one of the most consistently successful (and least gory) efforts of director David Cronenberg.

Roger isn't stupid,he knows Greg stillson all too well and warns Johnny about the kind of man he is soon after..rogers judgement is very keen indeed.

I mean, I think everybody knew about Johnny's ability so he was looking at him as though he knew what Stillson was about to do after winning the election

One of the best adaptations of Steven King novels. Wonderful casting all down the line. Of note...Walken as Johnny, Lom as the doctor, Zerbe as millionaire and Skerritt as sheriff. Saddled with the gift ( ? ) of precognition, Johnny's journey is chock-full of pathos and poignancy. Brilliant!

Nothing against Charlie/Emilio, but I’ve always preferred Martin out of the three as an actor. This, Badlands and Wall Street are his best performances of his IMO!

Actually , that was the introduction to the character in the book. King started with a Stillson prologue then didn’t bring him back until later in the story .

I always liked Anthony Zerbe . This is one of my favorite films . The Martin Sheen character always reminded me of the crazy man George Bush
Zerbe played too many TV bad guys but he was a pretty good actor. Didn't get enough roles. He's so good with subtle changes of expression. Gary Cooper would be proud.

I live in Toronto and this was filmed in Niagara on the Lake. I always think of it as US south shore of Lake Ontario yet it's set in Maine. It just doesn't feel Atlantic coast at all, kinda subversive.
