Nick "Need to pick up the pace". Also Nick 1 sec later stops to pick up a rock. Haha. ;) (fyi: that could be me as well.) Absolutely gorgeous view: Thank you for taking us on that hike, Nick. It sure does look pretty steep - even on camera. Must be an amazing trail with stunning view points. Also love the part thru the forest though - soo soo beautiful.
Huffing and puffing brought to you by Vinman's Bakery . but seriously you and your partner are in very good shape that is no easy walk in the park . thank you
July 4 Memphis TN, heat index 112 and I'm digging a hole to mix and place bags of concrete into it. Rather have been there doing what you were. Thanks for the views.
How fun Nick, I grew up on Staten Island and we had a bit of Serpentinite, I understand a southward extension of the New England Uplands. I did know we had Serpentinite but I just looked up the rest. We had a hilly area with a street called "Serpentine St". I love your videos. thank you Nick and Liiz for taking us along on the incredibly beautiful hike! Fern in Minn
Lol, craters of the moon. Nope. It looks STEEP. And worth it... ooohh serpentinite!, dang! You can talk and hike: impressive. Tricky trail, too. Unusually dramatic, rugged beautiful country. Whew! 👏🏼👏🏼😁
I live in the UK in the Peak District National Park. I thought we had some stunningly beautiful scenery and ice age geology. WOW! Thanks for your up loads Nick. Really enjoy your work.
Can’t hike right now due to health issues…THANK YOU for such a gorgeous treat! Could almost smell the hot pine and fir wafting in the heat and cool. This is the amazing America to be lucky enough to live in!
Thank you so much professor Zentner for this gorgeous video of this part of north America. Wish we had here a french version in Québec. Be carefull and carry on a personel beacon.
Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful hike Nick and Liz. It's easy to see why it's your favorite area. Loved the serpentinite. You are so special to so many of us. Thank you for your generosity. Gin. 💕 🐸 🦋
Happy fourth Nick! So funny...we were camped at a little spot just past the turnoff to get to this trailhead. Rachael must have just missed you on her trail run that morning. Such a beautiful place to be outdoors.
What a treat! It's just beautiful! I love the geology and the hike itself. The summit was especially good to see. Washington is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing. I would love to try a hiking trail sometime. You have inspired me!
At a time when national parks are overflowing, especially on holidays, you are fortunate to live near so many beautiful "wildlife areas" for hiking, relaxing, sight-seeing....... and simply taking a deep breath to reflect.
Nick, I was just there Sunday! Looks like you were ahead of me by a couple of hours. Instead of Bean Peak, I went up to Eldorado pass. Having followed you for the last few years, I found myself wondering what these rocks were and their origins. All sorts of questions for you had I known you were on the trail!
Nice hike! Much, much less crowded than my nearby Navaho Peak hike two weeks ago. Great bloom of shooting stars - their 'fragrance' always remind me of the scent while at a used book store. Always enjoy your videos Nick! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for sharing this! So beautiful and interesting. That was quite a trek. Got me squirming in my chair a couple of times on those clifts right up to the edge. That is a very beautiful place for sure and so fascinating to learn about. Thanks again. Happy 4th of July! Peace and Good Fortune and Good Health to you and your wife and family. All the best!
"Steeper than it looks." It looks pretty steep to me already (@ about 14 minutes) and an old man like me (soon to be 77) who lives @ 850 feet or so would need a breather about every 25 yards (based on recent past experience). Gorgeous, though, and I love it when I have the trail to myself.
Hi professor Nick and Liz. Enjoyed you taking me with you wonderfiul hike anf i am not out of breath. Besides being in florida. When i was up there in portland oregoni could not ho higher than 2500 feet up. I went to bull mountains in oregon in the hood natiional forrest, and got sick. When i walked around i felt like i was floating. I had to pack up and get lower. My partner didnt believe me.. well doc had air sickness like going down to deep in ocean the bends. So happy to go with you on this hike How high elevation were you and Liz at, at the end up there.. good job. Thanks i miss your vidios.. florida says high..
Wow! So beautiful..Youlive ina chocolate box every pic you take could easily be on the top of a chocolate box. I appreciate you sharing your locality with us and especially because I can’t hike like that these days. Many thanks
Would love to see a video / education on the Okanogan Highlands. That's a favorite area of mine, and it would be great to learn more about its geological history. I just found your channel and have learned so much! I really enjoy your content. Cheers.
Kudos for all your audio and visual skills, Nick. Steady camera, even when you’re a bit gassed. Enjoy your classroom stuff and the way you maneuver the boards and the visual aids. Always interesting, thanks

Thanks for this, we loved it! I think half the people concern-trolling the puffing need to try that grade of track themselves and get back to us about their magnificent physiologies lol.
Not to mention the elevation, right? And what if you have allergies and a bit of a stuffy nose or sinus congestion? You're not allowed to go hiking bc you're not "allowed" to breathe through your mouth? Man... some people.
Happy 4th of July, 2021. Absolutely a gorgeous hike to see the mountains, wild flowers & little critters. We greatly appreciate you sharing. Look at the Momma go, climbing ahead of the Daddy. He is doing a Great Job. Thanks for carrying us to the top of the mountain.
Cracks me up because my wife and I are the same way... She is always stopping to wait for me while I 'stop and smell the roses' on the way up. She'll seem unfazed while I sound like Nick here with the labored breathing. 😂
Beautiful hike on a beautiful day. Wonderful views on the way up and incredible views at the top. Though, parts of that trail seemed more like 'a suggestion' than 'a trail' (walking over rubble, two feet to the right - death fall, two feet to the left - death fall....). Thank you for making it to the top and back and thank you for sharing...!
What character class and alignment would Prof Z have in Dungeons and Dragons? 18:37 "Find my partner... Oh wait. I don't think I can. There's waxy serpentinite here..."
Thank you for taking us with you. Biutiful walk. On tough hills I breathe in twice and then out twice, it helps me, also medative. Happy 4th from the UK.
Happy 4th nick! I was up the skokomish looking for jasper with my wife. That waxy serpentenite sure is pretty. Ive been promising myself I will go hunt jade one of these days...
At this stage of my life I couldn't handle this. Found that out when I went to Larch Mtn in OR and could barely handle the 1/2 mile to the dome. My own fault, I guess, but the further up you go in elevation the harder it is to pull O2 out of the air, and ya gotta stop to catch yer breath pretty frequently. Liz handles these trails like a boss -- top speed and doesn't break a sweat.
Wow! Rock City! Would this area of mostly rocks be considered a slide of sorts since there is an abrupt change and then boom - you are now in the woods? When you stopped and scanned the mountains in the background, what is this area called? Are you now on a cinder cone which does look like Craters of The Moon? This is totally awesome. What's even more awesome is that these cool serpentinites are sitting on the top of a mountain when they actually started in the ocean! That's how amazing the geology of the earth is! Thanks for the tour and congratulations to both of you for making it to the tippy top!
Is there any particular reason that trail is where it is? "Beverly Turnpike trail, a favorite of ours" so you have an appreciation of its pathway. Just as there is a reason for those rocks being where they are, do you have a reason that that trail passes where it does?
Some interesting bird calls on that beautiful trail. Thanks for taking us along!
Nick "Need to pick up the pace".
Also Nick 1 sec later stops to pick up a rock. Haha. ;) (fyi: that could be me as well.)

You risk a heart attack chasing that young girl up the mountain!!
Huffing and puffing brought to you by Vinman's Bakery . but seriously you and your partner are in very good shape that is no easy walk in the park . thank you
Wow ! We don't have such rugged mountain scenery here in Australia. Well, not high rocky mountains like that.

Congratulations on summiting Bean Peak (6743'). That's a long hike with more than three thousand feet of elevation gain.
The USA rocks. Greatings from S.WALES UK.
Surely love these scenic field trips! Does look like good exercise, but I'm beginning to find streets with a tiny 4 degree slant exhausting.
What lovely views! and what ankle breakers! I'd be huffing & puffing & hitting my inhaler ... Thanks for taking us along!

Ah! The only way I can get outdoors is through these lectures and videos. Thanks!!!
What an incredible hike. Thanks for taking us aloñg. Beautiful country.
That was beautiful serpentinite. Thanks for bringing us along on your hikes and thank Liz for being okay with it too.
Your wife is extremely fit. Jeez. She walks on high elevation difficult passages like she is walking down the street.

Beautiful Serpentine[ite], you really have a choice hiking place, I have my forest not far from San Francisco
Beautiful! Added bonus: I identified the serpentinite before you said it! Woot! Woot! ( Not that I'm sure I'm spelling it correctly, lol!)
