WOW ! ! Hands of steel Tony, I bought two scots pine last year and now I know what I'm going to be doing with them. As always, you are an inspiration to myself and many others. Aw Ra Best to you and yours from bonny Scotland. Wullie
Excellent Wullie. You'll have great fun wiring and styling those scots pines. I've wanted to visit the forests around glen affric for years. it's on the top of my list of places I've yet to visit in Scotland. The ancient old woodland around there full of old pine trees is amazing for photography, and a massive inspiration.
Very nice work here Tony! Bonsai Q was what inspired me to twist my box Elder down to a bean from a 12" (30.48cm) tall sappling. Look forward to seeing how this progresses. Thank you for sharing!

It'll survive Tony and will be a really nice pine. You did a fantastic job with the shape you put into the trunk.. bloody ripper mate. The inside background was good too.
Cheers Scott. If it does make it, I think like you it will be a really interesting piece of material. That wall behind me was a funny one. I ripped out the old brick chimney breast and put up a steel then re-plastered the wall and lowered the ceiling, then just after I skimmed it, I sat down and could hear my neighbours tv clear as a bell, so I built a stud partition and boarded it with soundproof board. That sounds like a good material to use, and if you can get long lengths of it I suspect that it would be quite easy to apply too which is always handy.
@@TonysBonsai it's real good for young trees for winter prep. Wrap with burlap then wrap with electrical tap. Then spring comes take it it off the electrical tape. great video again tony... bonsaify has a good 1 on twisting trunks, its very good how he turns the trunk at 90^ to give you something to grab as you twist
Hi Mark. I've been working my way through the bonsaify playlist, and I'm sad that I've now seen almost all his videos. he's the only youtuber that I've been through watching the whole channel. He gives the best advice I think when it comes to how to get trees started and in early development
Translating ‘mame’ to ‘bean’ is actually 100% correct. Mame bonsai are called bean bonsai due to their size. For us in the West all the Japanese terms just sound so special and technical but in Japan they are very everyday 😄
Nice one Tony. I think it's your best trunk bend (shape) up till now. If your going for the quirky friendly tree look, this is it.Wish u happy holidays and a lot of fun making new content for manny years to come. Maybe in a few years bonsai Q make a tony inspired tree.
🤣🤣I love your thinking Tjeerd. I'm not quite sure what Bonsai Q would do to make a video inspired by me. It would be great, but I won't be holding my breath.
I could hear the tree screaming “NO, PLEASE, no more!” Interested to see if those buds you avoided come through unscathed. Fun video. Hope your mom and your sister are very understanding when they come upon the scene of the crime.
You make a good point about the buds. I very much doubt they are all undamaged, and I wouldn;t even be surprised if they are all dead, but we'll see in the spring. As long as They have a nice hot lunch, they love having something to clean 🤣
Nice bendings!! The amount you can bend trees is one of the major takeaways I get from the Japanese channels, BonsaiQ is also an absolute goldmine for how to deal with junipers too. I bought 6 smaller Scots Pine from eBay this time last year and did similar things and they are all still alive so that's a win. I've recently got a secondhand projector screen off gumtree (£5) so plan to do some videos of my trees when I get time, most are on my Instagram too, I'm Swishrelic there. Happy Christmas Tony!
Excellent. I love to hear when people are going to make some of their own videos. It would be great to see your scots pines and how they are getting on after some major bending. Merry Christmas Chris.
Interesting Tony I think you have created a tree which will be unique, I have watched the Japanese bonsai guy doing some severe bends as you have done and they seem to survive so good luck with yours, the translations can be quite funny at times trying to work out what he means but good fun. Have a great Christmas with your family and a productive 2023 mate.
Thanks you Joe, yes he seems to really work his trees hard, and even with hardly any roots they seem to make it. I'm really looking forward to 2023, and I wish you a merry christmas.

Yes, I think that principle is good in theory, but I find when putting such tight bends on a tree like this it's just not always possible to get a thumb in there when trying to avoid branches and buds etc. These Scots pines are certainly tough though, and flexible too!
I love Bonsai Q, what I have observed, it's not 45 deg on the trunk, you modulate the spacing and bend at the outside curve of the wire so that it's not exactly repeated, also they bend so that it's not straight from any viewed angle, like you I have been trying to re-create the same thing. Mr Kawasaki folds like no other and Mr Hiruma now is bent on Literati and shohin, it's my fav channel and learning the translations like raffia and shari words. Hi Steve. it's fascinating how bonsai tastes change as time passes, and as you say, the small trees seem very popular. I suspect that with the explosion of bonsai on TH-cam, more people are becoming interested in it and many of them are perhaps leaning more towards material that they can acquire and work on at a reasonable price. When you see Randy knight selling raw material at $25,000.00 it is out of most peoples reach.
Also I'm really interested in the selling of pre-bonsai. This is something that I think I would like to be involved in at some point in the future. Good to hear that you're doing well with it
