This was absolutely inspiring to watch. I hope it gets people out of their garages and gets them to realize the experiences are out there for them and they’re worth having! Well done, to everyone involved!
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought it was another half-hearted and chaotic vlog where a young man could just about afford a mediocre 996 and now he's driving around America without any concrete idea and gets stuck somewhere. But it turned out to be an absolute gem. In my childhood my parents had a VW Golf 1 GLI convertible with the big unofficial GTI 1.8 L engine (110 hp) and with it were always done some nice roadtips. Just cruising through the country and getting to know new roads. Now, at almost 30, I finally got my driving license (which is expensive and time-consuming in Germany) and my love belongs to the second generation Mazda MX-5. My mum drives a pre-facelift NB 1.6 and it's such a fun, reliable and most importantly affordable little car. And I want to buy my own next year to rattle off the miles and also as a fun little track tool for the infamous Nordschleife. Where others fly away on holiday, I'll be cruising through the countries with my little Miata and getting to know the most beautiful European routes.
I’ve been running a video production company for 10 years now and your story about being an entrepreneur felt like home. When you said that’s the beauty of a road trip “putting that road behind you because it’s epic” is such a great metaphor for entrepreneurship and life in general. Thank you for making this.
sitting in my grandpas brand new 2008 911 turbo s as a kid, and watching the trees fly past faster than i could focus has given me the passion for cars ever since. amazing
Couldn’t like this video more. You helped solidify my childhood dream of owning a 996 and while I won’t be camping and off-roading in mine I love seeing what you do. Super inspiring stuff.
Amazing video Brock. Felt all your love and passion. Come visit vancouver canada for a great drive through the Canadian Rockies...or a deive to Tofino to enjoy the pacific ocean....😊 thank you!
You found a beautiful way to tell a story about a man, his dog, his car, and his passion to log miles with his soulmate in his Porsche. You got it made, my man. I love the green grassy color theme of the standing seam roof, the car and clothing. You captured the road tripping spirit with the car really well, especially the off road part. Very few Porsches get to play in the dirt like that. Now some car questions. What mods have you done to the 996? The PCCM is an obvious one. The exhaust sounds nicer than factory on camera. Car looks lower than stock. The shifter seems more notchy. What tires do you have on? My biggest concern with taking my 996TT on a long road trip off the beaten path is with the possibility of tire puncture. As you know, it’s difficult to find replacement tires especially for the rears in a jiffy. Even towing can be a pain because a flatbed is needed for AWD. Of course, all that can be mitigated if there’s an SUV to tag along as supply car.
Thanks so much! Soooo mod wise not much over OEM. The PCCM+ for sure, the exhaust is the OEM Sport Exhaust with a Fabspeed carbon fiber intake (that makes the intake sound MUCH better but not what you're hearing) the suspension is the M030 option with H&R sport springs. Shifter is the OEM Porsche short throw shifter and its about 30% less path wise than standard. Tires are Sumitomo HTR Z5's. Almost the least expensive you can buy but I have literally run every tire option on my car and these are the most versatile and best bang for the buck if you're not trying to impress anyone with your tire brand. They do get a little hard in cold weather and really let ya know when they are at the wear bars... towing. wait for a flat bed haha.
Good for you for keeping the car OEM. That’s all that’s needed to enjoy a 996. The short shifter is one of the best upgrades. I’ve never tried the Sumis. My favorite budget shoes are the General GMAX RS. It’s like 90% of a PS2 in mountain roads but more comfortable and longer life as a daily. What’s the make of the roof tent and how much does it weigh? Too bad it doesn’t have an aero shell for the front.
I love this car! As much as I love the car, I love the house he lives in even more. What a gorgeous property! I started road tripping as a young lad in the '60s when all our family vacations were loading up the car and driving to somewhere to go camping. When I got my license and a car, I'd spend hours just driving around back country roads and exploring new places. I became a big rig driver just because I liked being on the road so much. Even after switching careers, I continued to do road trips and have done many cross country drives. A couple summer ago I purchased a Z06 Corvette in eastern Iowa and drove it back to NV, mostly on two lanes and using a paper atlas. No GPS, no set schedule, no preplanned destinations. It was a fantastic trip except for one thing, dirt roads. Quite a few times, the route on the map I was following turned into a dirt road. The car was literally in like new condition and I was reluctant to get the car dirty or have it bottom out. I have since sold that car because it was just too nice. I would love to find another 996 (previously owned a '99) and do a "safari" type conversion and then go looking for dirt roads. While 996 prices are going up, you can still find them reasonably so you don't have to worry about banging up an expensive car. Very nice video but wish you had talked about and showed us more about the car and less about yourself. Maybe you wanted to give us your hostory so I'll check out more of your videos and hope for more car content.
@@996Roadtrip I relate so passionately to your love of road trips. I’d say I’ve done over 700,000 kms around Australia, and I’m still hooked. I recently bought a 981 Boxster, and already, I’m enjoying the Victoria High Country in this machine. I’d love to drive it across the Nullarbor, too - the desert is just so beguiling. BTW, the cinematography in this video was outstanding. It must have been a huge job to pull it all together.
Love to see this. 911s are like hunting or working dogs, they’re meant to be used (hard), not be stay at home, special occasion garage queens. I would have gotten a more streamlined roof top tent though. 😎
Haha thanks! I totally agree… interestingly enough I have run a hard shell lower profile tent and it was worse on mpgs and the interior room was less. The brick on the curvy car has kinda grown on me 😜 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Fantastic that you are BOTH enjoying Road Trips and the pleasure of driving the Porsche. We just drove from San Francisco to Winona Minnesota (family) then onto Niagara Falls, then onto Quebec City Canada and Back. Roughly around 6,300 - 6,500 miles. I'm the 3rd owner of a March 2012, 991 Carrera with 3 pedal Manual and now we have 131,619 miles on odometer. Also took my Ibis MTB with us on the Roof Rack to ride in Minnesota. Life is for Living! Happy Holidays!
