B12 has to be converted into B12 Complex in the small intestense to be " ACTIVE B12 COMPLEX for circulatory in the human body to make Myelin Sheath around the nerves & produce healthy red blood cells. Regular B12 is from protein , Pepsin amino acid produced in the stomach turns B12 to the B12 Complex ACTIVE which is what humans need weekly. Only two labs can properly test for B12 Complex ACTIVE....in hands , feet & brain.
You work your a** off, you put out so much consistent and reliable content along with the quizzes. You should be proud of the work and change you and your team are creating in nursing education. 2nd Semester Nursing Student CB SRN
And this is why, I like NP more than Doctors. I am a pernicious anemia patient myself and I have to tell you, she couldn't explained any better, good job!
My pernicious anemia diagnosis was delayed by 7 years. My first complaints were brain fog, muscle weakness and fatigue. My B12 serum was always normal because i was taking supplements. I started complaining that it felt like my muscles weren't getting oxygen. I developed autonomic dysfunction, gastroparesis, bladder dysfunction (LUTS), esophageal dysmotility and paresthesia among many other symptoms. My doctors told me my symptoms were psychosomatic and anxiety based. I had to fight for a peripheral blood smear which revealed macrocytosis. Eventually my intrinsic factor antibody test came back positive. My quality of life was terrible for SEVEN YEARS. I hope those of you studying this never let another patient suffer. Most of my doctors (including a neurologist department head at a university medical center) though i needed a psychiatrist. My body was slowly dying. I've had to take DAILY injections for a year now and if i back off at all, my symptoms return.
Excellent description. 10/10. Diagnosed at 20yrs old. The confusion (dementia like) symptoms and unsteady gait are the most frustrating aspects of the disease, people often assume you've been drinking alcohol. Especially when you slur. I wish the UK would do the intramuscular injections monthly rather than every twelve weeks. But I can only assume the doses of cobalamin are administered at different volumes.
I have PA and from the UK. The amount given is only 1mg every 12 weeks and it is no where near enough for me. It's crazy how debilitating PA is and I agree with you on how frustrating the brain fog is. I'm 36 and was diagnosed a year ago after years of wondering what was wrong. I'm sorry to hear you are so young to have it but at least being diagnosed early in life should mean it will be more manageable for you. Wish you all the best.
just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make videos for us nursing students who have such a hard time understanding all this new material. your videos has definitely made a difference in my grades!!! your so awesome in the way you break down this stuff and make it seem so easy to understand so thank you!!
Wow, thank you so much for the comment. It really means a lot to me that my videos are helping you, and they are helping you so much that it is making a difference in your grades...that is just AWESOME! Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment to let me know you like how I present the material. I wish you continued success in your studies and thank you for taking me along with you :)
Been watching you since my 2nd semester in nursing school. I work full time along with nursing school & your video's help me understand it all so well within minimal time. I'm now in my last semester and I have to say you've helped me get this far. You truly have a gift for teaching this stuff. A big thank you to you! xoxo
Thank you so much for the really awesome comment, Brittany. I'm so happy my videos have helped you throughout your program. It is just so awesome to hear these videos are helping. Congrats on being in your last semester. My videos will be right here for your for NCLEX as well. Best wishes this semester :)
I'm working full time and struggling in school. I'm glad to hear someone that is in a similar situation as I am in, yet still being successful. I'll use her videos as a resource more often. Thanks for posting this!!!
I am so thankful for your videos and explanations. I went from making 80's on exams to now making 90's from studying along side your videos. I am forever grateful. I wish you had a video on cellular regulation and cancer. I am stressed about this next Med-Surg exam, which is my last unit exam for this 8 weeks.
Starting my 2nd semester with med surg and it looks overwhelming, BUT your videos are so well explained/organized I think I am going to get an A in the first exam! Thank you for posting this!
Thank you so much for all the information that you have shared I have pernicious anemia and vonwillebrandts disease I never knew that my pernicious anemia was an autoimmune disorder thanks for giving me that information.
I am almost certain I have this condition. I've been having lots of GI symptoms and for the last month just felt exhausted!!! Beyond exhausted! wenr to the ER and they has no clue why I'm so tired , blood work all looked good except they did not test for vit B12 deficiency. I have ALL these symptoms, asked my gastroenterologist dr. to test for it
I found out I had this through the Cleveland heart study which literally saved my life because I could not eat and I couldn't keep anything down; I was diagnosed with both cyclic vomiting and gastroparesis (maybe I have that, maybe not) and I had no energy like I could not get out of bed and my mental health was getting very questionable and learning that I had this has saved my life
Thanks. I was hoping you would mention a cure. I have been gettiing IM B12 and B complex shots for 6 months. I can only go 2 weeks between shots. The symptoms startes during lockdown and I couldn't see a doctor. They were not available in London for consultation since 2019. I just put the symptoms down to inactivity. Your list... I had them all.. It was only when i visited my mom in Africa, and told her I can't feel the peddle of the car, that she immediately phoned her doctor. Extensive bloodtests. I also have severly low Iron and Vitamin D. I am 54, female. Until 2019, I was healthy, going to gym etc. So it has been a life changing condition. The clumsiness was the first sign, but my flatmate (at the time) was criticising me. Especially as I was banging the dishes and even dropping them. I still bang the cupboards but realized I was using sound to tell me when something is closed. Also, I bang objects when i put them down. Sound helps me navigate my movements, including my footfall. The flatmate complained about that aswell. Yet they were all signs of the difficulties my extremities had in FEELING the environment. Now I live in Africa. I can make all the noise I want.
You are saving my life!!!! I love your videos I wish I had found you last semester thank you soooo much , I have hesi coming up and this is helping immensely 😊

Great video ! Thank you. I have a question : Is a vegan diet a risk factor for pernicious anemia, as they do not get B12 in their diet ? Or is pernicious anemia ONLY related to that intrinsic factor not being produced ? Thanks
Hi Sara, you are awesome. You said that this is a review on Hematology but I don't see any other video only Pernicious Anemia and Iron Deficiency. Do you have anymore video?

I was diagnosed with PA 9 years ago and want to thank you for making this video and bringing awareness to the illness. Good info!
What is PA
What is your health condition now... What treatment you are taking
PA is pernicious anemia
