- I got a real special treat today. l had the amazing opportunity to see a genuine IntelliSTAR 1 unit generate forecasts LIVE at Vintage Computer Festival Midwest this past weekend! Along with the IS1 here, also showcased were a second IS1 running Weatherscan, a WeatherSTAR XL, a WeatherSTAR 4000, and a classic WeatherSTAR. Additional cable headend equipment was present, including a setup to configure your own EAS bulletin!
This forecast was generated at 10:38 am, and the data is indeed real, even the traffic data. Since you couldn't hear the audio, I went ahead and dubbed in my own music and narrations. The song is entitled "Big Dreamer", an old song used on LOT8s back in the late 2000s.
Special thanks to the Genericable group for bringing these machines out to the show, with a special thanks also to iRaven for providing more insight on the machines and what it takes to get them working in 2023. A rare, unexpected but well-appreciated treat for sure!

The IntelliSTAR 1 was one of several units sold to cable headend providers by TWC that was capable of generating local forecasts and overlaying narrations over the background music. The IS1 was officially launched for local forecasts in 2004, and retired in 2015, after TWC's "Weather all the Time" (WATT) rebrand. During its tenure, the IS1 received a handful of graphics packages. This unit is configured as forecasts were presented during most of 2007.
Watching TWC on a CRT brings back memories watching the coverage on Hurricane Katrina.
And this is why I am mad that Reddit removed the Gold/Silver upvote. Yes I know that are now doing paid upvotes but this isn't the same. Under the previous system I would have awarded at least a silver if not a gold. This video is extremely awesome.

@@JoeMemes365 not at all I have been a Brony since 2011 and have been a fan of The Weather Channel since I was a child in the 90s and 2000s. not to mention I'm really into Retro Tech too like that little Trinitron screen this video was shown on peaks all my interest :)

I actually have a brony friend who's big on CRTs. He loves his Trinitron. I don't think he's a TWC lover like us though. :) So yeah, sometimes these niche interests have more overlap than one might think. Either way, I think it's cool.
@@JoeMemes365 i have too many CRTs to count. 2 I use on the daily. My higher end PC uses a Samsung CRT Monitor from 2004. Crisp 1440i image.
And in my room I have a Toshiba widescreen CRT TV from 2004 I watch OTA Digital TV on it because it has a built in Digital Receiver and have my Original Xbox and Nintendo Switch hooked up to it. I'm planning to make a home Analog broadcast so I can use the older CRTs I have stored up again :)

It's called "Big Dreamer" by either Kathy Ball or Chris Ball. I've seen both names credited in some places, it's confusing.

This is when TWC peaked.
Some TWC fans might disagree there and say it was the 90s ;) But definitely, TWC was still pretty good through the 2000s decade.
@@JoeMemes365 that was our exhibit btw, it was fun. But yes, TWCs golden age was from the 1996 relaunch to 2005.
