    • @arandomnamegoeshere
      @arandomnamegoeshere ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adding to this...
      The red Swingline was custom painted for the movie. It needed to pop on the screen. It represented petty office politics that often revolve around insignificant things like supplies, equipment, desk locations, etc. I'd say it hits home.
      Swingline did indeed eventually create a whole line of brightly colored products (including the classic stapler design) based on the popularity of this film. They saw the market being fed by small operations doing some high quality custom paint jobs and reselling red Swinglines on markets like eBay. Clearly a demand was there.

I understand Milton being so possessive of it, too…although mine is made of metal and not the cheap plastic, like his! I’ve taken it with me to every job I’ve had since then and have made sure my office-mates know it’s MINE and if it ever goes missing, I WILL hunt them down and make them regret even THINKING about taking it!!! If I had known how well-made they were and how they hold up, I would have nabbed a few more on my way out the door.

    You guys know I fly for a living and often we work for several airlines in our careers and I flew for some smaller, shady, mom and pop jobs and have some epic walkout stories. The smaller, regional airlines work their crews like dogs and pay very very little. It's criminal! So at one turd ball outfit I was so sick and tired of their insanity that when I walked past a gate of a flight going to my hometown, I told the Pilots I had to use the bathroom and I'd meet them at the gate and I got on that flight home instead!!! This movie did not perform well in theatres since not many people knew or cared about the tech industry. When it was released on video and started being shown on TV it got a huge cult following even still today. Stephen Root Milton created a lot of comics plus their was a office space comic strip called Dilbert. After this movie the entire restaurant industry changed because it was standard practice for places like Ruby Tuesday Chili's etc to force waitresses to wear flare. After the movie it was dropped right away. Lastly the entire Michael Bolton rambling scene completely improvised by everyone.

    I think what really makes this movie great is how much subtle humor there is with expressions and proper pause with a joke. Like the whole repeated responses to Peter thinking his GF was cheating on him, how they look away, clearly imagining something. Lawrence's growing seriousness when he responds to
    "Has anybody ever said to you, 'Sounds like a case of the Mundays"
    "No. Nah man... shit nah man, you'd get your ass kicked saying something like that."
    Michael's reaction to Lawrence overhearing all the stuff about money laundering, "who the F*** is that guy?"

    Well I’ve got that Red Stapler. Lol! I loved that movie! I actually love these two guys. They are very mature for their age and I love that. I saw them react to Band of Brothers and they were so knowledgeable. Just cool, intelligent, really funny young guys. Love Them!

    This should be literally mandatory viewing for everyone who has ever had any job in history. It's not a comedy. It's therapy.
    Mike Judge Alert! 15:50 That's him! Love it. 🚨

    Under customer pressure after the movie, Swingline staplers actually came out with a red stapler. The movie had it painted red because that didn’t exist. 😂

    Milton said one of the times he was getting crapped on "I could burn this place to the ground". He later said "That's the last straw" when they shut the light off in the basement. Milton is the low-key hero of the movie.

    Fun Fact: Stan is played by Mike Judge, the guy who made this movie and is the creator and the voices of 'Beavis and Butthead'. Also, Lumbergh dies in a deleted scene, as on the special edition DVD, there is a clip where Peter is at the construction site, cleaning up the charred remains of his old work and mentions to his friends 'any body going to Lumbergh's funeral?' Implying he burned alive when he was trapped in the building.

    One thought about Family Guy that came to mind while you were talking is I never realized how much of the show is just remixed gags from other shows & movies.
    I can't think of a single Family Guy joke or plotline that doesn't come from someone else's imagination.

    This movie is practically a documentary about what it's like to work in a corporate office. So many of the scenes in the movie I've seen play out in real life at the companies I've worked for.
