    Lots of good info in this video- this would have come in really handy when I was trying my hand at doing a little wire work. I sorta gave up on that because of the lack of info about what supplies I should be looking for. Thanks, Allie, for sharing with us.

    Very interesting. I learned about the gage sizes a bit when I took a silversmithing course but I never realized what dead soft meant.

    what gauge wire for hammering in silver? and should it be hard or half hard? And can you hammer silver filled wire or does it have to be pure sterling silver?

    How can I tell if a wire is dead soft or half hard if it's not indicated, especially when buying online? Can the size of the wire be used as an indicator or not?

    • @ashleyduckworthyt3224
      @ashleyduckworthyt3224 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If they aren’t indicating it online you can ask the seller. I will say though, any reputable jewelry wire will be labeled. They may say soft instead of DEAD soft etc…. BUT most decent wire is labeled. When in doubt don’t order it if unlabeled.

    Ok. So I'm going to be using sterling silver wire so I need the half hard wire right? Since it is a little softer.

    For using beading wire which Is beSt gauge ?

    • @Potomacbeadco
      @Potomacbeadco  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! It depends on the project or what you are going to make. If you want to make a wire wrapped loop necklace a 24 or 26 gauge works best. If you want to make a bracelet with regular - not wrapped loops - you should go with a bigger wire like a 18 or 20 gauge.

    Are dead soft copper wire and bare copper wire same?

    • @melissadoucette278
      @melissadoucette278 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi 👋! Yes bare copper wire is going to be dead soft! Copper is the softest metal to work with and u can work harden it by running it through nylon jaw pliers and hammering it! I hope 🤞 this helps you out!!

    I am looking for 19 gauge wire... any suggestions? Thank you

    • @Potomacbeadco
      @Potomacbeadco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      PotomacBeads does not carry a 19, but if you are looking for a sturdier wire use 18, and if you need a little more bend go with a 20. You can email hello@potomacbeads.com and they would love to help you.
