Well, I wanna thank you for this video, I was a medic for 42 years now I am considering becoming a medical biller unfortunately I need a teacher in front of me when I was teaching my medic students they needed me in front of them. I need an instructor in front of me I will look into a school here in the northern New Jersey area, but all your suggestions were invaluable. Thank you so much.
I’ve started watching you 2 years ago while going through my schooling. Your tips and knowledge put me more at ease and helped a lot! I just took the CPC exam via live proctor and PASSED on my first attempt! Definitely going to stay up to date on things and see what other credentials I’m interested in. Take care!
Your video has brought me so much information, I am looking to change my career, and you have solidified that this is the right fit for me! I will be signing up for Preppy ASAP and get started on the steps for a brighter future for myself. Thank you for being so transparent!! Here is to step 1!
Thank you SO MUCH for all of the work you've done on this channel, Victoria (and for making it completely free)!!! I just took and passed my CPC examination yesterday and I'm ecstatic! A huge reason that I passed on the first round was because of your videos. They are so practical, engaging, and helpful and I really can't thank you enough! God bless!
I have a good career with direct patient care but I’m taking this course this year, I love working in healthcare but really hate some of the things I have to deal with. I’m familiar with a lot of icd codes already and different insurance package codes and how those are billed. I’m very book smart so I feel pretty confident especially with my background working in orthopedics pre and post surgery and physical/occupational therapy. Good luck to everyone else embarking on this journey.
I was homeless at 18. 24 now and trying to get this thing. I always believed that no one would help me with schooling. Just recently I had to quit a job because I was mentally fucked up and they were working me 12 hours a day all night. The only way I could’ve paid for my cal regional program was that the government gave me $5000 when I filed for Edd from having schizophrenia. I pray to gif that I get this done next year in 2025! I know I can do it I just wish I had the help when I was 18z
I can relate I'm 58 and in a women's home because my former employer exposed me to toxins and I've been chronically ill for over 13 years. Need a little help finding the right school and grants.
@@victoriaschell2225 look into the careerlink of your region- they often affiliated with the state services that issses out unemployment services. Thank you Victoria for all the information! I just signed up for medical billing and coding at preppy and looking forward to learning & starting a new career!
Thanks For all the videos Victoria. I went through Preppy and completed the course. I immediately followed up with the Externship program back in October. I have still not get set up with any facility to enroll in that which is a bit frustrating. I’m actually now certified and still waiting to take advantage of the externship Preppy offered in my program to help with my job search. Any advice on what I should do would help? Thank you.
I could not find any internships for medical billing and coding, so should I just apply for like a front desk hospital job? I don't have any experience in the medical field. I applied for an intern that requires a certification.
Yes please do. I have both but only because CCS was not typically pushed as a new coder. I wish I had went for it though at first because you won’t be “looking for a job”, the job(s) would then be looking and pursuing you. Plus if working in a hospital the pay is more.😊
I’m currently taking classes toward becoming a professional biller/coder! What are some good companies I should look to apply for? Are there companies that you can work from home but also be able to be remote in multi location (being able to travel)?

I am interested in getting into the Medical coding & billing industry and I considered Preppy and watched a few of your videos and took your free Master Class, however I also went online and sought out reviews on the Preppy training classes and the reviews are not very good. I don't have a problem with independent study and I have been self taught on most of my education since I graduated high school. Computers, software programs, etc. I also don't have a lot of money to spend on this and all of the study courses, exam prep and having to be a member of AAPC is getting into a good bit of money on top of the preppy course and books. Is Preppy easy to learn if it is basically a self taught class?
Thank you for reaching out! I completely understand your concerns-medical billing and coding can feel overwhelming, and there are always mixed reviews about any program in this field. It’s worth noting that there are a lot of complaints in general about medical coding and billing, as it’s not easy to learn and requires a lot of discipline. If you’ve seen negative reviews in Facebook groups, keep in mind that many of those groups are flooded with competitors who intentionally skew things to make Preppy look bad. That said, Preppy offers online, on-demand lectures and has amazing support to help students succeed. It’s designed to be flexible and accessible, which is great if you’re self-motivated like you mentioned. While coding does require investment, Preppy’s affordability and structure make it a great option for many people. I recommend really weighing what works best for your learning style and financial situation, but Preppy has been a fantastic resource for many of my viewers. Best of luck on your journey into this field! 😊
I already have an associate's degree, a medical coder certificate, and revenue cycle management certificate all from my local university. I graduated this past April. I also received my RHIT credential this year. My problem is that never took any coder credentialing test and need to figure out a way to study that doesn't cost too much. I work for a health insurance company and I really don't code or use anything I learned in school, so i feel like why i am wasting my time and potential.
Currently I have finished taking a medical billing and coding course online through career step and getting ready to go test. On my career step program, I have been taking the practice exams and getting anywhere between a 76 and 80, just wondering if there's anything I can do to improve the scores. Also I've been trying to find somewhere I could possibly do an internship and having a hard time with that. I plan on moving to the Springfield Missouri area in a few months and really want to get connected there. I already have a job offer at a local pharmacy there because I am a certified pharmacy technician as well. I'm hoping that having both of these will make me pretty indispensable to someone. I really want to get involved in the hospital there if possible. Do you have any suggestions on what could help me further my career?
Hi! ❤I love your videos they are so informative and helpful and easy to understand!! I am a single mom of 2 and I’ve been wanting to get into medical coding but I can not afford to buy a laptop right now. Do you know of any programs that will donate one or maybe a cheaper price then normal?
I would like to take over the billing for my wife's therapy practice (behavioral health) and possibly other practices within her network. Should I go for a CPC or is that overkill? Is there another certification I should consider? If you could please point me in the right direction that would be amazing, I can not find any information on google. Thanks for the great videos!
If you were working in person as a medical coder, you'd typically have your own desk or workspace, often in a billing or administrative office. You might not be directly close to the physicians, as coders usually work behind the scenes, focusing on documentation and coding rather than face-to-face interactions. Your role would mainly involve collaborating with providers through documentation or queries when needed.
i want to get into medical coding (i'm a sterile processing technician currently) what would be a good entry job for this role? i don't want to work front desk or scheduler because of my social anxiety
Victoria, thank you for your videos. They are interesting and informative! My husband and I recently moved to Western PA and I am looking for a part time job where I get to use my brain. I'm wondering if medical facilities in Pennsylvania use part- time coding professionals. Is it worth pursuing the training? Any insights would be great. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors!!

Hi victoria. I am a doctor from pakistan and i am interested in learning medical coding and billing. Will they pay the same amount to a foreigner they pay to an american if the foreigner qualify the cpc exam.
Thank you for your interest in medical coding! It’s important to note that medical coders based outside the U.S., in countries like Pakistan, typically earn significantly less than coders in the U.S. This is largely due to cost-saving measures by companies that outsource these roles. Additionally, fewer companies are offshoring coding positions because of legal concerns with HIPAA compliance and the penalties associated with data breaches. If you’re considering medical coding as a career, I recommend researching opportunities in your local market to better understand the demand and pay scale for coders in your region.

Stays are generally considered inpatient because the patient is admitted and receives ongoing care. However, if the SNF provides outpatient services (e.g., therapy sessions for non-residents), those would be coded as outpatient. It depends on the type of care being provided.
