Regardless of how historically accurate it is or isn’t 2 things that can be agreed-upon are Are that they don’t make movies like this with such quality anymore and that this was the first true masterpiece from Michael Mann
A tomahawk is a better weapon for hand to hand fighting than the bayonet. The Germans mentioned that in WW 1, that a spade or small shovel was better. With the Bayonet, you have to lunge with both hands; you are vulnerable unless you really know what you are doing.
If it was true then there be actual higher frequency of evidence of it. Believe it or not, people back then also didn't like to get hurt and will utilize what they can get their hands on. Long pointy weapons have been a mainstay for so long throughout history and intuitively reached about everyplace on earth. Native Americans and Japanese are popular examples of adopting into better weapons, instead of following the traditional method. If we can get our hands on advanced weapons from extraterrestrials, it be the same thing again.
It didn't go down like this. But this incident had major ramifications for how the 2 sides communicated after this in the American theatre of the Seven Years War. The British were furious, quite rightly so.
My first words on seeing that column of troops was just "Skirmishers." I can't say I'm too knowledgeable in F&IW tactics, but why on earth wouldn't you put out skirmishers in front and on the flanks if you're going through possibly hostile land?
Maybe it wasnt actually a hostile land, maybe the French or whoever the victors were gave a tip-off to the tribals. I donno, just assuming from the video
Indians fight with undaunting courage. There are plenty of examples of the British units being severly wounded or even wiped out in surprise attacks like these. Especially if the unit is just a bunch of fresh conscripts with an unexperienced officer

Michael bay
What does Michael Bay got to do with this masterpiece?@@andrewwilliams9887
Tons of high quality movies have come out recently
Creo en la historia real los nativos mataron solo aunos nativos y colonos.
Una de las cosas que me sorprende en éste tipo de películas...es la gran cantidad de extras que ocupan... simplemente impresionante.

Yeah but if you can get a bunch of guys to make a wall of bayonets you got something formidable.
That was a trenches. This is open field, I'll take the spear over tomahawk.

bow and arrow too. especially in an open field.
We all know that a musket's stock is the best melee.
Wes Studi was magnificent in this movie.

I understand that Colonel Munroe actually survived the attack?
@@captainamerica6525died a year later back home of apoplexy. I guess it destroyed him.
This scene was rather generous by making it look like the British had some fighting chance.
3:16 the rebel yell 110 years in advance 😂
The shots where you see Magua and his braves shadowing them in the woods above are just amazing. If it were filmed now doubt you'd have black Redcoats
A real native watching this with you.
Great scene from a great movie
3:57 They fire off a volley and no natives got dropped?
If he had ordered "form sqare" they might have had a chance
That tactic only works against cavalry
A square formation would have only hastened the end of this
Yea against centaury
In real life they had to surrender their weapons to the French.
That’s what makes this massacre brutal. The English couldn’t defend themselves
The French knew these guys were going to get killed anyway and still let them go without an escort.
Look closely, there are French trappers among the attackers
This is a great movie!
Always loved the music in this film ❤️

You cut it off to soon.
Yeah :/
Y digo yo que en vez de seguir marchando en columna como panolis porque no forman el cuadro defensivo?.
Great
Un combate cuerpo a cuerpo entre bayoneta y hacha ganaría siempre bayoneta.
Solo en formación
Ambush Attack.illers
British empire collapsed
went on to rule Canada and burn down the white house so no not from this.
There is no way British regulars would have been overcome so easily in reality
Why not ?
@@dra1212 They would have been trained to form up into a much tighter formation, into ranks with repeated volley fire. It was a hollywood movie.
@@markhamer7220 There's a lot of exemples of british regular troops wiped out by natives in history.
