The things that sold Nero to me were that DMC4 was my first DMC game, heck first hack and slash game, And riding a bloody corpse with a blade that sounds good like a bloody bike. Yeah in shot i love Nero.
A lot of people hated Nero, i just loved it how ferocious he was, dante was stylish with all movements, nero was more savage and the hand to be able to grab or counter some monsters and bosses is something i loved specially when by mistake i grabbed Credo spear, so damn cool! then tested it on other bosses.
I really think it's just because people wanted Dante and when you finally get him, his campaign is a shorter less interesting version of Nero's. With the amazing improvements to Dante's general gameplay. People wanted more of that and even I playing through the series the first time this year felt that way. Didn't mind Nero, he's fun to play but feels week (Especially with the special editions extra characters) not to mention Dante is maybe the most fun out of the entire series in this game for me. Nero works very well for both the story and to ease newer players into the series first game on xbox afterall. It's just with the lack of a sequel for 11 years and the reboot seemingly killing the series which he didn't feature in. Nero didn't get that second chance for far too long which allowed feeling of resentment to fester, like he was somehow to blame for the series dying. DMC5 gave Nero so much more identity and expression in gameplay and just gave him more to help him stand out from the others as a character.
This case has been made before, but I'm in the "Nero is Vergil's Son" camp. Nero gained the power of the Devil Bringer and resurrected Yamato out of the desire to protect Kyrie. And Vergil never answered Dante when Dante asked, "What are you gonna do with all that power?" My guess is that something happened to Vergil's wife/lover and son (Nero), resulting in Nero being orphaned/lost and Vergil embarking on a quest to gain enough power to protect all his loved ones.
They did with Nero the same thing they did with Raiden: Replaced a primary character with another and made everyone salty, until the later game, where everyone likes him now.
Rumor has it that Nero is vergil ' son. Evidence is that when he fights Berial and he explains that he never fought anyone like him, second comes from Yamato and the fact that nero devil trigger looks like Vergil, the third is that Dante gives it to Nero and says " the sword should should run in the family". For then who is his mother.....that's the question for the 10 million karat Jackpot.
+Alex Civiletti in the cutscenes from Vergil in the DMC4 Special Edition you can see him walking for Fortuna (Some years ago before the events) and then a girl with a hood stays looking to Vergil... :o
+Alex Civiletti Your information's kinda wrong. Berial was referring to Sparda. Secondly, Dante didn't know Nero was related to him, which is why he originally wanted the sword back. Because it was technically Dante's in order of inheritance. It's not implied they were related until Sanctus mentions "you indeed have inherited the powers of Sparda" . Dante gives the sword to Nero because he entrusted it to him. It's not stated if Dante ever knew he was related to vergil though. Still the major proof he's Vergil's son comes from Special Edition's new cutscenes.
Y'know, Nero wasn't THAT bad. I'd be glad to go back to him if that's the only way to make a new Devil May Cry instead of that DmC stuff. Seriously, did Capcom miss what happened when Nintendo gave a major franchise for them to a team of niche developers with the word "Ninja" in their title? Who knows, maybe Nero would turn into a bit of a badass like Raiden did in Metal Gear Rising. Though speaking of Raiden, i did notice an interesting trade-off. Jack and Rose were obvious Titanic references because Kojima is about as subtle as a sledgehammer going down on a container of nitroglycerine, but they kept the references to that at a minimum with Nero and Kyrie. In the trade-off however, we got the really fucking annoying saying their name a thousand times from Titanic. Oh and incidentally "ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE!"
Excluding DMC5, this game could have easily become the best DMC game, if not for the forced-rush, making them ruin most of the game. (Wish Special Edition actually TRIED to give more content outside of simply 3 more playable characters... i wouldn't have minded only 5 missions for each Vergil Trish and Lady if they were just different and filled the gaps of the story)
i never hated nero. when i first saw him, i was more confused than anything else. i was happy to see dante return in dmc4 but i was okay with nero being more the main focus. my biggest gripe with donte is that a) capcom and ninja theory scrambled to make him more like the original after the massive backlash, robbing donte of the chance to be his own character and b) donte should've been made his own character rather than supposed to be dante's replacement. i have seen the angel/demon hybrid done well before, but really, that's small potatoes compared to donte being an unlikable douche and dante's replacement i doubt dmc: devil may cry would have been as hated if it was its own IP
I love how you cover everything that I had in mind which are 1. Initially having confusion with the identity of Nero. 2. Instead of having hatred of the previous protagonist being replaced.. simply seeing DMC4 as a sequel within the franchise. 3. The DmC Dante shown in its first trailer had immense potential as becoming his own character within his own universe 4. The change of this initial DmC Dante completely ruined his character and the DmC series as a whole 5. If DmC had it's own name (call it something else with a different title) along with its characters having different names since they were also very different characters from the original series... then it would have been a fine game. But because DmC had so much contrast towards DMC, its flaws became coherent. Seriously... devil + angel = a human looking... nephilim (supposedly) that can turn his hair white? Terrible logic. Also, in the original series... devils didn't have the ability to turn into humans. Devils were badass.. but DmC had antagonists that were as douche-baggy as its protagonists. Now when I think about it... I think that DmC would have been a shitty game even if it was its own IP. There is nothing to justify it being a great game. Not even its story was good; its story, story-telling, plots, conflicts and resolution were all below average. I mean... I prefer watching Nero's passion of fighting towards saving the person that he loved.
David Stewart im pretty sure it would have evaded a whole lot of hate it got! I only played the Demo and was not really happy with what they did (dialogue...) the combat is fun but I personally dont like those running sequences where the world changes that much but they were well done. In the end I just couldnt stand playing it because I am a great fan of the original Devil May Cry with its characters and hated what they made out of Dante because he was a character that looked kinda unique because of his white hair and had a great humour. I missed that in the Demo of DMC
2024 and IMO this is still the edgelordiest and most testosterone-charged video game song ever. Deadbeat dad “Bury the Light” theme comes at a close second. (Edgelordiest anime song is Unravel by Ling Tosite Sigure, btw)
Nero is great, I liked him very much. His personality makes him a likeable character I think. He feels more sensitive than Dante probably due to his age, but I think that is a nice addition to set of characters in the story.Dante on the other hand, is just AMAZING in every sense XD,and is more mature obviously, smart and funny.I just ADORE Dante as a character. I had never had so much fun playing a main character like I had playing DMC. I literally burst out laughing every time he opens his mouth
Well, then you missed this line over a thousand times: "Held back by love, what a shame. Still, I must salute a man who carries the blood of Sparda."-Sanctus, Mission 11 End Cutscene. How does it not add up? Think about it, what did Vergil want all that power for? He wanted to protect those he held dear. Well, Sparda and Eve are dead, and Dante can protect himself. There has to be another. It seems likely that he didn't see himself as a worthy father until he gained power to protect.

The time has come, and so have I -DMC4
The things that sold Nero to me were that DMC4 was my first DMC game, heck first hack and slash game, And riding a bloody corpse with a blade that sounds good like a bloody bike.
Yeah in shot i love Nero.
The time has come to be a DEADWEIGHT
A lot of people hated Nero, i just loved it how ferocious he was, dante was stylish with all movements, nero was more savage and the hand to be able to grab or counter some monsters and bosses is something i loved specially when by mistake i grabbed Credo spear, so damn cool! then tested it on other bosses.
the time has come after 14 years
*That bastard called me dead weight! I didn't come all this way for nothing!*
NERO IS BACK BITCHES E3 2018 DMC5!!!!!!!!!
I actually liked nero from dmc4 and i was surprised people hated him. Dmc5 has really opened peoples eyes to the potential of this character
Cue this song when somebody called you a *dead weight*
T H A T B A S T A R D C A L L E D M E D E A D W E I G H T

LETS ROCK!
Man is good at predictions.
proof it was clear as day for long
I enjoyed playing as Nero in DMC4, until the part where I got to play as Dante.
same happened to me in dmc 5 xD
For real
THE TIME HAS CUM AND SO HAVE I 🔥🔥🔥
honestly this song had no right going this hard
They did with Nero the same thing they did with Raiden: Replaced a primary character with another and made everyone salty, until the later game, where everyone likes him now.
Just like raiden they gave him a badass makeover cyborg raiden > human raiden. Short haired manly looking Nero > whiny bitch emo haired Nero
i like him less in 5
@@ajscrewu also human raiden was better
In 2008 : still have buster arm.
In 2019: have been cut by his father.
😂 😂 😂
He still has his Offbrand Buster arm that was made

the red queen is my favorite DMC weapon
It's a sword that's part motorcycle, of course it's awesome
I love DMC but I came from the Dark sonic mod
The time has 💦

That kid Nero, he has a good theme
+glitchhunter09 but Dante said he has his own reasons for helping which by the way was not explained properly
I dont know where exactly, I think it was an artbook or some other book about dmc4 where it straight up said nero is vergils son.
Alex Civiletti nice explaining I was supervised Neros dad was Vergil I was like 😱😱😱
he came
"The time has come and so have I", way to much information there, mate.
Pickle May Stroke 4- The pickle has stroked
ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE! ROSE!"
Agreed, people give nero too much hate
It's funny that new DMC 5 will feature Nero as main character
@@mattlazer640 Lo and behold, look who's the star of the fucking show in DMC5!
I have heard NO ONE...EVER...Talk shit about Nero

THE TIME AS COME TO AN END
Excluding DMC5, this game could have easily become the best DMC game, if not for the forced-rush, making them ruin most of the game. (Wish Special Edition actually TRIED to give more content outside of simply 3 more playable characters... i wouldn't have minded only 5 missions for each Vergil Trish and Lady if they were just different and filled the gaps of the story)
" i'll make you wish you had a soul to sell as i slash you down and send you straight to hell" YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHH
Make the Devil cry? That's hardcore.
fave normal battle theme, banging lyrics
i never hated nero. when i first saw him, i was more confused than anything else. i was happy to see dante return in dmc4 but i was okay with nero being more the main focus.
my biggest gripe with donte is that a) capcom and ninja theory scrambled to make him more like the original after the massive backlash, robbing donte of the chance to be his own character and b) donte should've been made his own character rather than supposed to be dante's replacement. i have seen the angel/demon hybrid done well before, but really, that's small potatoes compared to donte being an unlikable douche and dante's replacement
i doubt dmc: devil may cry would have been as hated if it was its own IP
Casandraelf I love the new nickname. "Donte". That's great XD
Casandraelf I really liked the re-bot. It was fun. it would've been better as it's own separate franchise though.
I love how you cover everything that I had in mind which are
1. Initially having confusion with the identity of Nero.
2. Instead of having hatred of the previous protagonist being replaced.. simply seeing DMC4 as a sequel within the franchise.
3. The DmC Dante shown in its first trailer had immense potential as becoming his own character within his own universe
4. The change of this initial DmC Dante completely ruined his character and the DmC series as a whole
Majvfb The game was fun that's all I care about
I have come and so is time
Imagine walking into an empty and silent hallway and you hear this
The best battle theme by far (at least from Devil May Cry 2 onwards)
He went from a wild child with a lot to prove, to the Legendary Dead Weight, and finally to the Legendary Silver Bullet.
2024 and IMO this is still the edgelordiest and most testosterone-charged video game song ever. Deadbeat dad “Bury the Light” theme comes at a close second.
(Edgelordiest anime song is Unravel by Ling Tosite Sigure, btw)
Impressive boi
Nero is great, I liked him very much. His personality makes him a likeable character I think. He feels more sensitive than Dante probably due to his age, but I think that is a nice addition to set of characters in the story.Dante on the other hand, is just AMAZING in every sense XD,and is more mature obviously, smart and funny.I just ADORE Dante as a character. I had never had so much fun playing a main character like I had playing DMC. I literally burst out laughing every time he opens his mouth
10 years late but yes, nero was a favourite for me immediately in dmc4
This is the sound the demons hear when they see a guy with white hair coming towards them with a weird arm.
The time has come and so have i
Same
Always preferred neros raw fighting style with his devil arm over dantes multiple styles tbh
"Take this!"
"Slam dunk!"
dmc is my all time favorite anime and game franchise, Nero is badass as hell, I mean a human with a demon arm, you can't write this stuff man, btw vigil and Dante are my favorite characters
"The time has come and so have I"
That's what she said
I feel like I’m the only guy who liked Nero from the start. I mean I did find it a bit annoying that you didn’t get to play as Dante for the first 10 missions of the game, but I still loved using Nero, especially when I got to slam demons into the ground with his devil arm. And motorcycle sword go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I loved Nero and all interactions since the beginning, but I'm new to dmc franchise (played the four games this year)
I think Nero have only two problems, first he cannot dodge attacks, second, after beat the game, it's impossible to play all missions with Dante or Nero
Nero was my guy off rip and the fact Jyb voiced him was the icing on the cake for me 🔥
His devil arm is pretty cheaply op.

@MisterPudd
Sanctus explicitly states several times that Nero carries the blood of Sparda, and its the only way that he could get the Savior statue to work.
"everyone hated nero" comma, speak it for yourself
