I used ampro whips for a few years but switched to the Diamonds HF range. Nice fiberglass unit, bit smaller than the ampro antennas with no noticeable performance issues. Lots of trees on the A roads here & the slightly shorter length made the difference between twanging the antenna off them. Great setup, I need to get my mobile setup back up & running. Recently changed the car to a phev so it will be interesting to see how it works. I tried the Bluetooth idea too, again it was the delay and poor sound that put that idea to bed. 73. 2E0HKM Jim
Nice setup. I worked into VK using a 20M AM-PRO antenna on a mag mount with my trusty old Icom 706MK11 from the car. They do work well considering they are a big compromise. Enjoy the bands Tony M0YFT
Great work Ian. Not really been radio active. Want to get a battery for the car and then try Bunkers. The 817 hasn't been out of the bag for ages too. Great work👏🏽👏🏽
That’s a lovely neat setup you have, definitely well thought out too. It’s something I need todo really as my kit is too difficult to setup so it doesn’t happen if that makes sense.
@ cheers Ian, I struggle for space as I won’t to screw my radios into the cupboards in the camper and then use the remote head mounts, you would think a camper would be easy but it isn’t. I’ll get it sorted hopefully in time for the next 145 and finally get on the air. 73s
Well done Ian… liked all the tuck aways. ✅ I recommend not driving with the bigger whips because you’ll hit trees / car park barriers ( my experience long 2 mtr whip 🙂) I have two old pro-am antennas for 6mts and 80mtr that I’ll utilise in a bit see if they work. It will be interesting how you address any ground plane / earth issues. 🤔 Best wishes to everyone.73. 💙 G0uvl
interesting video and gave me some. dead. what. did you do re ground plane? My jeep has a fibreglass roof and the local club "experts" give me all sorts of conflicting advise.
@@patrickmolloy6994 I need to undertake more tests Patrick to see if I have grounding issues or not. It depends on whether the mass of the car etc and amount of metal at roof level is enough. I’ll see when I try all bands, especially the lower ones I think 🤔
Would you mind sharing the dimensions of the mounting points you made for the roof rails? I've got a discovery 99% sure the roof rails are the same spec just different lengths.

Nice installation there Ian. That piece of wood does a very important job. 73 Chris M0RSF
