  • In this video, we replace the rear brakes in a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK/WK2) 4x2 V6. This is a fairly easy job that anyone with basic hand tools and basic mechanical knowledge can tackle, potentially saving big $$

    For anyone else watching, take off the anti rattle hardware first. Put a pry bar/ screwdriver on the rotor hub and compress parallel towards the caliper, wiggle and it will come right off. Also take off the o-ring before taking off the rotor.

    That brake system isn’t supposed to use lube on the slide pins or ears of the pads. Also never use anti-seize on lug studs unless you want to stretch the threads and throw off your torque and risk losing a wheel.

    glad i'm not the only one who wonders why they have such a tight clearance on the bottom carrier bolt. i'm not seeing a way to fit a torque wrench in there when i'm putting it back together. maybe i'll see it at the end of the video? edit: my 3/8 drive allen bits and big torque wrench wouldn't fit, but a 1/4 drive allen set and a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench did, and that gave me the excuse to get more tools, lol.

    Good step by step instructions. But! Wow man wayyyy to much grease application, and you need to torque up the wheel nuts to specs, never rely on a rattle gun it's a recipe for disaster...

    lug nuts are 7/8” or 19mm

    Yeah mine was bone dry too. That's why I'm here. Couldn't believe how dry, no signs of any lube. Also open end box wrench works fine for that lower bolt.

      I am.going to have to put front brakes in this same vehicle soon... Anxious to see if the front is bone dry too

    Thanks for video. My 14 Overland's (46k) are worn exactly like that too, inboard pad is like new. Unnecessary brake job cuz Chrysler didn't lube the guides and pins! Going to change them next week.

    When you're making these sorts of videos, please let people know important details like lug nug socket SIZE. I'm getting ready to do rears on a vehicle that's not in front of me, but the internet is telling me the lug nuts are 19mm- or 21mm, or 22mm, depending on where one looks. This video omits it completely.... le sigh.

    This idiot just washed away any of the six points of contact for the parking brake shoes and is completely oblivious to the fact that he has done more harm than good 👍

    You never put antiseize on your lugnuts or it will effect torque specs. My God man 😢

    I have a 2017 Summit and have absolutely no room for a ratchet for the allen bolts. Had to put in the socket and use a wrench to move them then an angled allen to tighten. What a pain. Is your rear suspension different? Also my parking brake was stuck on a rust lip. Now what? I have no room for a screwdriver on the back to adjust the brake. +Does anyone know?

      Thank you! Unfortunately probably not for a while the front brakes look to have a lot of meat left on them. I may take one side apart though just to check the condition of the slide pins... I still can't believe there wasn't any lubrication from the factory on the slide pins in the rear

    LOL How not to change rear discs should have watched a video of some else doing to same job.
    Grooves in caliper mounting plate should not be filed out other wise play could occur you must renew it.

    Thank you for sharing… Those rubber O rings used in assembly line to hold the rotors.

      Interesting I wonder why they wasted the time and money... I've seen quite a few cars that have a screw that holds the rotor in place. This is the first vehicle that I've seen that uses an o-ring. I'll give them credit though it's cheaper than a screw
