- Cleaning 50 years of paint jobs of plastic parts can be difficult. Found a simple way to remove paint with less damage then hand sanding and way quicker! I have stripped multiple layers from headlight surrounds, grilles, and interior parts with this technique.

I wish we had Menards here in Athens, GA. I just made a trip to Menards in KY to pick up five 10x12 R18.4 doors for my shop. Worth the 14 hour round trip. Menards blows HD and Lowes away in selection and price.
I should have bought stock in Menards between three house remodels and car stuff I could have gotten a bigger rebate. I agree it’s worth the trip.
Great tip. I thought the blaster would damage plastic parts. Good to know it won’t. Thanks for sharing.👍
It works great on kickpanels and seat backs that have that layer of white crusty dead plastic. It keeps 70% or more of the texture of the grain. And then the paint bonds great. Now of course new panels would look way better but it’s a low cost alternative and still get nice and useable results.
Great tip, has saved my fingertips many times. Keep up the good work Jon.
Great to hear!
John you are the man!! Fantastic tips and tricks!!👍🏽
You rock!
Cool you are the man John thanks for sharing you knowledge it's the best! Information going on TH-cam hands down you cover everything thanks again and keep the Birds coming brother God bless you.
Glad to help, even if it only creates more gooder ways to do a job. Like take what I show and then improve upon and make it your own and even better if it’s shared.
Oven cleaner works great too.
I will have to try that
Thanks for the tip, my interior panels have that layer that needs to come off. I haven’t touched them because I didn’t know what would work.
The cool part is it keeps most of the grain pattern and does the paint stick great as well. Of course new panels would look better in a side by side comparison but they aren’t cheap and what have you got to loose by trying to freshen up
The originals. It’s a low cost and effective technique
Looks like that works real good! Thanks for the tip!
It does!
I will try that on my Monte plastic! Thanks for the tip!
You bet!
Great content as always....thanks for the tips.... looking forward to seeing more content.....thanks..🔧🔧👍
More to come!
Looking great!
Thanks!
Wow! Now that's the way to get that job DONE! Includes the prep tips as well. Also great that you included the years-old completed pieces. Great vid as usual! THX!
You bet!
@@VinylVillageGarage and you said you spray primer/high build them and sand smooth, prior to paint?
@user-ic4hn3qx7r yup. Clean
With a wax and grease remover then a high build primer and it will take care of most if not all the blemishes. Body filler doesn’t seem to hold up great so if it needs any thing filled I use 3m plastic part repair to fill and so far it’s help up.
@@VinylVillageGarage that was for everyone else including me! THX!
Really cool tip brother I need one of those sandblasting cabinet
Yes you do, at your favorite place harbor freight
👍👍 Mr Roboto 😂😂 I should really come get my car out of the way for you some day 😂😂😂
I need a bigger garage to do more cars!
@@VinylVillageGarage yes you do but it's very impressive what you do with what you have 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
We always use castrol super clean. Soaked the parts in it. The paint wrinkles up and easily removed
Great tip! I will try that.
@VinylVillageGarage we use it on plastic model cars as well. Safe for that thin plastic. If you are in a big hurry the way you're doing it might be better. I can't remember how long it takes. Worth giving it a try. Later my friend
@@woodrowdelozier1 do you have to only rinse it to neutralize? Or anything special to get future paint to stick
@@VinylVillageGarage I vaguely remember just washing in dawn dishwashing liquid and rinsing a couple of times. But maybe a Google search might be better. Lots of talk about it still in model car forums
Thats a gd one. And its fun doing it!
It is a bit satisfying watching the layers fade away.
Great now I have to go to HB today and buy MORE TOOLS lol
Yes!! More tools is always Gooder.
awesome Jon. I use a product from Tractor supply...black diamond I think. Similar product but I will check menards. How do you keep the glass window in your blaster so clean?? I have plastic stick on liners but they dont last long.
Well the glass is a trick for sure, it’s just a standard piece that I replace periodically. The peel offs seem to hold more dust than I like to mess with.
question 1967 Firebird 326 how does + battery cable get routed from battery to starter
I can tell you how 68 & 69 are routed. From battery to crossmember closest to crankshaft pulley then make a turn toward the rear am up to the driver side oil pan bolts then to the starter
Cool beans 💪😎
Thanks!
Great tip! Probably the same for fiberglass too?
Fiberglass can be blasted, seen it done, not sure of the technique or how durable it is. The plastic and rubber parts hold up well to the media i used

Thank you sir!
