- Actor Pablo Schreiber joins "CBS Mornings" to discuss the new Paramount+ sci-fi series, "Halo." The series is based on the popular video game franchise from Xbox and takes place during a 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Schreiber discusses playing the role of Master Chief, a genetically engineered super soldier, and what it took to bring the iconic video game superhero to television.

I’ve been a huge fan of Pablo since he first guest starred on Law and Order SVU
I think Pablo is great for Master Chief.

I also think Pablo is great as Master Chief and the series does a great job exploring his humanity - because even in the game, it's a MAN under that armor, not a robot. Master Chief being mysterious and faceless in the games is appropriate due to the fact we, the players, become him. But for a live-action series? Audiences need to see some humanity - not live-action re-creations of the video game cutscenes. I can't wait for season 2.
This would also be far form the first show to have a faceless protagonist. And its one where that has been core to the character since the beginning. Dropping that seems like a lazy decision to me. Maybe its partially because I read some of the books, but he was never an empty shell to me.

I’m sure people who never played the games will probably enjoy the show. I however played all of the games growing up. I got halfway through the first episode and shut it off. All the changes and other things are just bothering me too much to the point where I can’t enjoy it.

I might be the only fan here that’s actually seen the actor (Pablo Schreiber) buck naked. He was doing a play, in Chicago, back in 2009 with the late Brian Dennehy and Carla Gugino. Good play and terrific performances but wasn’t expecting him to come out completely nude at one point. Pretty sure all the women in the audience weren’t complaining though. Haha. Anyway, I can personally attest that Pablo has some serious acting chops & I’m glad that he’s finally getting a lead role which is long overdue. I also hope this series does well.

Not a fan of the face reveal so soon, but I'm willing to give him a chance. He seems enthusiastic about the role. Playing Master Chief is an honor comparable to the actors who play superheroes.

It's not that deep
I don’t care what they do outside canon. Acting was good, the Dr was amazing, seeing Cortana being created and MasterChief in action, I’m just glad to have that feeling (of excitement) I had when the Spartans first landed. Same feeling I had when Drago in GOT first flew into battle..

I’ve been a massive fan of Pablo, Secret Soldiers of Benghazi was incredible and he was great in Orange is the new Black. Glad he’s tackling Master Chief, going to be a wild ride!

Except the writing did everything they could have possibly gotten wrong.
Let me start by saying I LOVE Pablo as an actor. His roles in American Gods and Den of Thieves was above the bar for me. Now, with that said I really dislike they used him for this role being as he didn't grow up immersed in the lore and in love with the story of Masterchief and Cortana. Find an actor who LOVES Halo and you may find an individual who will break the mold and provide the kind of performance that could justify revealing the face of the heroic and loved spartan. Like Tom Hiddleston to Loki, Christian Bale to Batman, Ryan Reynolds to Deadpool, RDJ as Ironman etc... I might get a month of Paramount to see the show but from what I've seen so far it's not looking too stellar.

There are so many things wrong with this interview.
People who moan at the helmet reveal just dont get that this interview could never have gappemed without the helmet reveal. They expect him to never do interviews and promote the show and himself? 😂 ridiculous to think you can have a show without showing the main characters face.
Pedro Pascal has done PLENTY while playing the Mandalorian. Keeping a helmet on for the show doesn't mean he can't take it off and promote it outside of filming.

Well i have to admit I enjoyed Batman and Robin with George Clooney more than this show. It definitely isnt Halo, i dont know who it is made for because it isnt Halo fans.
Maybe one day we will get a HALF LIFE (Gordon Freeman) and a MASS EFFECT (commander Shepard - male version) Big Budget TV series. P.S. If they make the ME trilogy tv show .. MALE SHPARD is suited most ... if they make the ANDROMEDA storyline RYDER should be female obviously just like Sarah Ryder the 1st woman astronaut in space and an explorer like LARA CROFT of strange new worlds being that ANDROMEDA is totally "uncharted" + the role fitted better for Ryder and the voice actress was better than the male actor.

Spartans are not Mandalorians if the helmet comes off you are not terminated from your colony. As a long term fan I have no issue with the helmet as long as it fits the story and he has a good reason to do so. In the first episode it definitely makes sense for him to take his helmet off. So far i like the first two episodes.
How often did he taken it off in the source material?
@@GSthe3rd afaik only in the ending of Halo 4, but his face wasn't shown. He has taken of his helmet in a few occasions in the books, though none of them where during a fight.
To be clear I'm not complaining about him taking off his helmet at the tv series (and I even agree that is kinda necessary to the format).
Here’s the problem. John has been Faceless for over 20 years, and this show did it episode 1, and John is so out of synch with his canon counterpart I’m curious why they made this guy John in the first place.

The show is REALLY good, but there are a lot of salty Halo lore fans that are mad because they didn't follow the source material close enough or were expecting a 1 to 1 recreation the Halo game series retelling.
Naw I was expecting like 75% in line with canon. Which went out the window REAL quick when a Spartan II starts having sex, becoming obsessed with 'feelings' and losing his temper, the covenant having a human leader, and the key event of the Fall of Reach, but this time John is there and not even having his armor?? (Read the Fall of Reach, the very first book there was) and Keyes being race-swapped and dying before even seeing a Halo. I dunno... I don't think fans are nitpicking for 1-to-1 recreation with all that core story being diarheea'd away for a 'broader audience' or whatever.
