I agree 100% with those vetran pilots. I think her retirement got a lot to do with politicians than the tragic accident or technical aspects. Like any aircraft it was possible to perfect her than throw her out of the window. What ever poleticians touched will rot. 😢

The debris on the runway could have damaged any other plane that day, but the poor balance sheet probably allowed British Airways and Air France to retire Concorde for "safety" reasons. It's harder to be critical if its being seen as a safety issue rather than just not being cost effective. Sad, it looked amazing and I would have loved to fly on it

@@paulk8888With planes like the 747-400 and 777, it made zero sense because people would rather be in a lie flat seat with warm blankets in business rather than spend 3 hours in a spirit or ryanair seat for $15K.

@@tilethioAirlines aren't able to fill first class seats throughout the year. Half the time they rely on people spending miles or free upgrades to fill out their first class cabin. Now imagine the state of the concorde which is essentially a 100 seat first class airplane. The people behind the design and build of this mechanical marvel are also as fascinating. RAF veteran Harold May, the father of Brian May of the band queen was an advanced engineer and draughtsman for the ministry of aviation. As well as designing and building with precision his son's iconic guitar the "Red Special", and also all the appliances in the family's home, he was part of the team that designed and built Concorde's landing gear. Unfortunately, Harold May could not afford to fly on it, until his son Brian May became a millionaire and flew him to the United States on concorde in 1977 so that he could watch him perform a concert with Queen in NYC's Madison Square Garden. Harold May never approved of his son Brian abandoning his Phd studies in Astro Physics at Imperial College London to persue a music career with Queen, however, after travelling on Concorde and watching his son perform, he shook his son's hand and stated "ok, I get it now."
Brian managed to get his Phd later in life. His father would have been proud bless him.

I flew on the Concorde. It was the most beautiful aircraft I'd ever seen. Interiors were comfortable but not luxurious. I remember bi-fold bathroom doors and ergonomic two by two seating that was better than coach but certainly not as spacious as FC. Food service was extraordinary as were the flight attendants who were te cream of the crop. Braniff had a joint venture with BA for service out of DFW and everyone loved seeing the place at the gate. I can't wait for a new version to be rolled out in the next few years.

Legend has it that Sissy Spacek, the Academy Award winning actress best known for "Badlands", "Carrie" and "Coal Miner's Daughter" loved Concorde so much that if she were flying British Airways or Air France, she would specifically demand for a flight on Concorde. And the only other plane she would accept was the B747. Well, if you have the woman who went on a crime spree with Martin Sheen, burned down her high school prom with telekinesis and playing Loretta Lynn saying that Concorde is the only form of trans Atlantic travel, then I guess you could say, you've got a masterpiece of a machine in your fleet.

Concorde simply wasn't profitable and it wasn't really reserved for the average passenger. You had to be ridiculously rich to fly it. Not only that but supersonic travel while the future was far too soon and was rushed. For example Concorde was poorly built die to it's cramped conditions and was too loud due to the sonic boom. I think when supersonic passenger flights return they will be greatly improved from better inteior design to using eco friendly engines that won't create a noise or pollution.

That way you can produce a good documentary about the peoples who build her and their stories. Often the role of working class individuals left out from stories and we see poleticians who doesnt screw one bolt on TV. I think if you can achive it you can make a long time memorabilia for your dad and his collegues, you may also make some additional income and above all you will help the stories coming out. A remarkable aircraft, with lots of super technological achievements and a very beautiful futuristic design!
The name of that airplane was...the one and only Concorde! Even though it was so beautiful and futuristic, with so many unique features, it also had a major handicap, the sonic boom.
This “handicap” was the beginning of its end which dramatically and tragically impaired it’s ability to expand into other airlines worldwide.
The dream of supersonic flight was very short lived, and after 27 years of service [with only two airlines], the aircraft was retired. Then on that very day, for the first time, mankind has taken a major step backwards.
Now the Concorde is a museum attraction across the world, for many generations to see...what once was an ambitious vision on a drawing board, has become a living reality!

@@trawlins396Flying is safer and more economical than driving now. There are cars that have autopilot. We have metro and monorail transport that works without human drivers. You have the internet that let's you access TH-cam or any other online resources at 1gbps speeds from anywhere in the world. We could make a better version of the concorde today, but how are you going to justify the cost of it? The french and British governments spent 2.5billion+ to develop the concorde and that was a massive loss of taxpayer money
