I knew this line was mediocre in this gen, mainly because grass is kind of bad in this gen, but man this run was something. I knew the hidden power as soon as i saw how hard zard walled you. Finally, I'd like to note that the 0 IVs start makes things more difficult, but I feel like it gave you the chance to see which nature and EVs you can pick. It made everything that much easier and better for the playthrough that matters. Keep up the good work man, you're doing so well! I'm always glad to see a new egg video!
It was struggling so much at first determining if it was the new rules, or Treecko that was making things so tough. Both :P I actually enjoyed the 0 IV run. If there's a sticking point, that run WILL find it. I also like that it's repeatable for anyone to pick up Treecko and go. I'm eggscited to keep playing with the format! Thank you, I appreciate it :)
Glad to see this upload on a very very bad day of work. Brown eggs are only more expensive because the hens that lay them are bigger and need more food.
Aw shucks! I hope now that the day is over you can find some respite. Here I was thinking that brown chickens only laid chocolate eggs. Loving the egg facts as always :) Cheers, and I hope your day gets better.
I like the new UI, it reallly is amazing what we can do with games. The PP count is a good touch to add in there as well. Another great video, im eggcited to see the rest of the starters, especially chikorita, that one seems to be one of the qeaker starter lines.
I thought so as well. Thank you! The Sceptile video definitely made me wary of Chikorita. Who knows, maybe it's bulk will help? I can't wait to play 'em all :)
I had a hard time deciding if it were the new rules, or just Sceptile that was holding me back. Turns out both! I hope you enjoyed my struggles :) Thanks!
That was super interesting to see how the new methodology kind of showed both end of the spectrum for the Treeco line. Wow, Kanto is sure filled with plenty of poison types , I bet that you could definitely feel it in both runs. Hp rock did the deference for Treeco line . But it is a rather strange choice that developers had not giving it an access to rock slide too.🤔 By the way both you and Kangaskdan did an amazing job with overlay. 😊 And also sometimes we all have burnout,so don't worry about it. As long as you're enjoying whatever you do you'll be more then fine.😊 Keep up the eggscpetional work !😁
I really quite enjoyed the format. Not at first, mind you, as I banged my head endlessly against the mono Grass walls :P But it was a super interesting comparison I feel! I'm curious about it myself as both other Hoenn starters get access to it. He made it work, and I made it pretty. Well.. pretty with his help again. His instructions on formatting were necessary. Absolutely!! I'm really trying to find that balance. I can push myself, but I have to give myself proper rest too. Thank you :D
@@Eggsceptional Yeah, running with 0ivs can be tough at first , because that 15% difference between stats can make or break some major battles.🤔 Developing an overlay is really cool regardless, making the data appear nice and clean is an important job to do as well. So I'm glad both of you made it. You both are amazing.😊
@@bateltheassistant Well shucks :P Thanks! That 15% REALLY feels like it makes the difference in the second playthroughs. I feel Sceptile demonstrated that quite well! Development continues! It's an investment of time now to save time later right?
This playthrough gave me flashbacks to my very very first pokemon playthrough: Pokemon Blue. I was maybe 8 years old, so I had no concept of team building or move choice. By the time I had given up, my team consisted of a level 81 blastoise and a level 55 Gyarados, and even that wasn't enough to get past Lance! So I'm really feeling for sceptile in this playthrough.
That's amazing! I love that somehow, after all of this time, we can still catch those vibes we had in our first ever playthroughs. Your first crack at the game sounds a lot like mine. My Gyarados was a higher level though.. I kind of fell in love with it. Thanks :)
Only if they too came in with a newer, stronger, faster team like I did :P IVs make a difference! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had a blast playing these runs. Thanks!
Hi :) gj, i quite liked sceptile in emerald also good job with the interface but while it doesnt effect the ranking, im not sure about 0 iv on the first round, seems like it dampens the learning effect a little, and increases the workload since you maybe have to calculate more battles than necessary? just an opinion though, i dont really mind that much
Shark :) Thank you! I actually quite enjoyed the 0 IV format.. the results anyway :P It definitely revealed EVERY problem I would face, and I like how it creates a first playthrough that is 100% repeatable for ANY Treecko. I've had a few comments saying "I wanna try Treecko after watching your first run!" It did create a bit more work in routing the second playthrough - but I feel it encouraged me to really look into what options we had available. I'll keep at it for a little while longer. One result is far from prudent testing. Thanks for your input :)
I have decided I'll play the same game with the same Pokemon which you use. Just one catch I'll not set IV to 0 It will be random. And yes this run was fun.
That's so cool! I love that about the 0 IV format is that anyone can pick up Treecko and get similar/better results :) I'm glad it was fun! I'm eggscited to keep trying out the new format!
great vid as always. I figured the Treecko would struggle a bit since its defenses are meh and mono grass isn't the best but you did an amazing job to overcome those weaknesses and make it through and HP Rock was a good choice, my mind went to Rock Slide as the better option to Rock Tomb but I can see the 95% accuracy being an issue at some point, it always did bother me that they give the Treecko line so many great physical moves yet make its sp.atk higher. would've made more sense to give it equal vaules in both atk and sp.atk like Infernape but oh well. Can't wait to see Torchic go through Kanto I feel its Fire/Fighting typing will be good to get through a lot of tough battles even at base 80 speed as a Blaziken
Unfortunately, as was pointed out, Sceptile doesn't get access to Rock Slide in Gen 3. That would have changed things a little :) I'm looking forward to exploring it again in Gen 4 with the phys/spec to really take full advantage of something like Leaf Blade. I'm pumped for Torchic as well. So many problems Fire types have will be mitigated by the Fighting type, though I'm still concerned about the number of EQs in Round 2. Thanks! :)
huh really? another thing I learned about Gen 3 from your vids(well in the comments anyways) Guess maybe it has good enough move coverage from other move tutors in Emerald that they thought Rock Slide wouldn't be necessary for Gen 3 since I'm sure most players would lean into its Sp.Atk and go for Thunderpunch or maybe HP Water, Fire, or Ice. All the EQs in round 2 are something to look out for a fire type but Blaziken does get Bulk Up and Swords Dance so maybe it can set up and one shot them before it has to take too many. I am curious what nature you'll go with, a neutral one or a physical boosting nature to go with Bulk Up and Swords Dance@@Eggsceptional
@@lumineinfinitussilverkagat8094 I've been hunting for a Pokémon with Flamethrower that I can lean into as a mixed attacker. Blzaiken seems to fit that bill with physical set up, and STAB Flamethrower. And Rock Slide :P Poor Sceptile.... I don't think I have access to Thunderpunch in FireRed unfortunately. Unless it's from the move relearner.
the elemental punches are Emerald only in the Battle Frontier and the move relearner will only be able to give Blaziken Fire Punch which at that point is outdated, Flamethrower on Blaziken is great and there's only a 10 point difference in both it's attacking stats so it's a solid mix attacker but you have to get the Flamethrower TM or delay Torchic's evo until the 40s for it to learn Flamethrower. Blaze Kick though isn't too bad at 85 base power and 90% accuracy so it should be okay until you can grind the coins for the Flamethrower TM, since 90% accuracy might as well be 50% in these challenges @@Eggsceptional
Good video. After watching this my opinion is more reinforced about grass types in gen 1 and now gen 3. They are not the best starters. Yes they match up well against the land mark fights, but it's the bug trainers and birds early that make the other battles in the game way more challenging. Fire and water don't have this issue
It's very true. For all the perceived advantages a Grass type may have, strong against Brock and Misty, resistant to Surge, they have a lot of disadvantages. Particularly without the Poison dual typing to save from the 10 million Poison types in the region :P
@@Eggsceptional this isn't true, but my brain basically says if they arn't weak to it they resist it ...especially old steel when it resisted ghost and dark
@@Silvitewolf Another thing that I got wrong in a previous video (Metagross). I can barely wrap my head around them today how am I supposed to account for changes in Generations too :P I'm trying to be more diligent.
Just making a prediction: Treeko should do really well actually. Grass types can do very well in Kanto, especially in the early game. Even without a secondary poison typing for better resistance I don't expect any reap difficulty until Koga/Blane. And possibly a little difficulty with Pokemon tower since it can't use normal moves and grass will be resisted. I know treeko has good coverage in modern games, but I don't know if that carries over to the gen 3 TMs. But if it can take Mega Punch/Kick I think it will have a solid move pool for the whole game.
I loved reading this prediction. After playing Bulbasaur through the game through the years I wasn't expecting to have THAT much trouble with Sceptile either. Gen 3 can feel quite limiting at times that's for sure. But I still love it :) Thank you!
Venusaur line really set the bar high for grass starters. Balanced overall stats with early access to Sleep Powder (level 15) as well as Growth via level up at 41 means it doesn’t have to worry about OHKOing everything like Sceptile and it isn’t waiting until the postgame for a good setup move.
@@yorecf9641 I think the real problem is actually sceptiles very low defense. A lot of the early game is populated by normal type moves, with poison sting being really the only poison type damaging move you'll see for a while. But most pokémon can shake off its low damage even grass types, but not treecko. This is compounded with absorb which is a terrible damaging move early game, even if it heals. The other factors make a difference of course, it's just that low defense with such an offensively physical early game did not treat it well.
Eggcellent sir eggcellent. lets talk that 1st play through, oh my shit that was rougher, that was so rough. the resets to the weedles alone, just yikes. its amazing what a difference IV's makes to a run, why torture yourself so harshly like that. I recall you mentioning you'll try 0 IV's but didn't know you were trying them so soon and what a Pokemon to start on, pure grass is one of the worst to run in Fir red, there is so much to hit it hard with, you know its gonna be rough when you are weak to poison and bug at once, didn't you learn your lesson with the zombie bug thing lol. saying all of that, I liked your moveset changes through the 1st run, the experimenting with what does and doesn't work was superb to see as well as the mixed set you seemed to stick with throughout both runs. such a solid special attacker regardless of nature with such a good mixed set and Swords Dance. I had forgotten it got Swords Dance I have only used it in Ruby and Sapphire and never got a chance to try that on it. HP rock was no surprise to see for the 2nd run, but I would of loved to see a pure special set with HP water or maybe HP psychic to deal with the many many many poison types. 2nd play through was awesome, such a contrast, so well planned out. the brave nature was an interesting choice, but I see your reasoning and it seemed to work very nicely for you. going for the full physical with the leaf blade backup was a nice move I think, I've run teams like that, very effective with a good boosting move and options. you got me curious as to how the others are going to do, I have a feeling Blazikan and Swampert will do ok, but Fire red will be rougher on them I think, Blazikan has a lot of weaknesses and Swampert will not stand up to grass even a little, the rival will make good use of a sunny day set to weaken the water and speed up solarbeam. there is so much good stuff to come I just know it
First off - you'd mentioned it before but YES combining our threads absolutely helps my brain keep things in line. Ahhhh yes that's a good point. I'm trying to remember how many Onixses I face after getting access to Thief. Marcos in Mt.Moon, then scattered trainers in Rock Tunnel that I could route to instead of facing the Geodude teams. But only a handful. A Hard Rock would be great in a lot of solo runs because yeah, I use Rock a lot. Shark Beaks would be easier to find I feel, but the Dragon and Bug items are likely a hard no :P I don't want to overdo a single typing - so I'm trying to take a small break from Bugs/Poison. But I do like that VS for the future. I need more data! I absolutely feel that FireRed is where I'll be staying. I have little to no interest in tackling Emerald anytime soon. Eventually, sure! But there's plenty of Emerald content around already. Scott will be better at it than I am anyway :D Those are good points. Puff with some physical elemental coverage would be wild. I need to look more into how to get Heart Scales, and things in general. I've been slowly reading things, but trying to keep the majority of my learning on stream. I wanted it to be as organic as possible, and quite a few people have commented about how much they love the format as they learn along with me. I was wondering about a partner for Slaking like Blissey or something of the sort that has moves that can heal Slaking too. Like err.. Wish! Or.. you know... Those moves that don't deal damage so I've never actually used them. Toss on a full support set, plus Seismic Toss, and then Slaking can just be monstrous. Mwahahaha!!! I feel like there's an almost endless number of available options to explore within these games. The clicks will never stop :P for every bit of steel trapped memory I have, I have an equal portion of sieve memory. I 100% believe those results. Lance was such a pain for Butterfree, and as I recall I only made it through by fishing for a Silverwind proc. 100 resets definitely feels appropriate between R1 and R2. The bulk and damage potential of his team cannot be understated - even though most of the time a solid Rock or Ice move will wipe him out. So HP Fire is out! At least for Sunnyfree. I really want to find a Pokémon where Fire is undeniably the right choice. Eventually :P Me, learn a lesson? Seldomly :) I actually quite enjoyed the results of the 0 IV run, despite the run itself causing some grief. I've loved the comments that are popping up saying that they're going to try running Treecko themselves, and using my run as a blueprint it's 100% repeatable since I used 0 IVs. But yeah... That mono grass type wasn't the ideal first Pokémon to run in that format. Hehe... learning! I'm excited to keep trying it though, one result doesn't prove a theory. Plus with the notion of cheating on the horizon... Playthrough 1 wasn't nearly as horrid as the the cordyceps that looks like amanita muscaria. You hit the nail on the head! The 0 IV run definitely forced me to try thinking outside of the box a bit more. Sceptile was just a tough run in general, and I like the brain scratcher. Like I've said - I enjoy things that test my brain not my patience :P It was funny, I checked out Sceptile on smogon while pondering the second playthrough, and they ALL wanted +Spe natures. No way man. NOT necessary for a solo run :P I feel like Blaziken and Swampert will both do quite well. Sure they'll have plenty of their own sticking points but I see something Bulky for Blaziken that Sceptile didn't get :) Mwahahaha... MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! But um.. Poor Swampert gets the best move diversity but no set up (barring egg Curse). At the end of the day these runs filled me with confidence for the others, but made me absolutely dread Chikorita's run.
@@Eggsceptional combining the threads is a good way to go and doing from the off here is a good move I think. I should mentioned sooner, it is only off of wild Pokemon that these thief items are available and most of them it is 10% or 5%, you'd have to invest some time into getting them I am afraid, I think with the Hard Stone from Onix, it would be worth it in the long run, there are plenty of wild Onix in the rock tunnel and victory road, odds are one of them will have one for you to thief. having used them recently (although Weezing not so much) I can suggest a thing or 2. Muk is a bulky monster and gets the rare sludge bomb via level up and although its set up moves are Acid Armor and Minimize opposed to SD or Bulk Up, I suggest using them, its physical defense will let you down if you let. I watch Scott in Emerald earlier, he is getting good, but it comes with practice, as with all things, I think you could be good as well if you tried. Dragonite (as well as both Nidos) have the best movepools in the game short of Mew and Arceus and you'll love playing them, but moves are not everything, make sure its stats are well used, its lack of physical defense and speed might get you, especially with the physical priority moves like ice shard that Gen 4 gave us. the chat and the comments have been very kind to you so far, we all want to see you do well and help you learn and to learn with you of course, there will be spots for finding the heart scales and other useful items. Blissey would be good or something like it at least, something that is bulky and can support. you need to learn a little about double battles in Gen 3, its complicated, but some of the best teams are built about non damage support and stall for the big hitters, I mentioned Pokemon with Follow me, that is my Strat, protect the partner while it sets up to sweep, Swords Dance or Calm Mind are good in singles, but in a double, the Ai might just spam attacks on you while you set up and ruin your strat. it never stops to amaze me the number of things and challenges we have for these games, you'd think 20 years later we'd run out of ideas, but no, we keep going. my poor sunneefree, it did suffer so much. without sleep it cant stand up to much, I think half of the resets I got were because of Ancient Power on Aerodactyl, especially when I couldn't outspeed. and fishing for the silver wind boosts only caused more, I don't think I got a single one in the Lance R2 battles, fair enough I didn't need it for the champion but getting to the champion was a nightmare. as it stands, ice is still the better with electric being not bad as a second option. funny thing, Scott in Emerald earlier set his Peliper to HP fire because he thought he needed it for the final battle of the run which had a lot of steel types, he almost never does that, it shows what a menace the steel type is in Gen 3. all things considered, it could of been a lot worse with 0 IV's. seriously worse. funny thing, with o IV's I think your HP would of been fire as well lol. the irony. I'm glad to hear others are wanting to do the same with their runs as a result, a bit of me thinks they want to beat you, either your time or resets or move choices, but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all. the variety of options you worked with was superb, there is something that surprised me, I always thought Sceptile got growth in its moveset, that would of been great for it. I'm curious about the egg move you'll give the VS if you do the VS. love the technical description of the zombie bug by the way, maybe if you do a 2nd run with it, give it a latin name along those lines for shits and giggles, whats latin for nightmare, that would fit it perfectly. nature doesn't matter so much in runs like this unless it makes a difference to something terrible. you are running big monsters mostly, neutral natures wouldn't hurt them. sceptile never lacked speed so why give a speedy nature.I know what Blazikan can get and I know just how much you will use it, I do hope you'll keep ,blaze kick on it, it is such a cool move, you'll like it on Hitmonlee in Gen 4. and ah yes poor swampert, curse isn't even that good on it, one grass move and its over, imagine a reset to an Oddish because of absorb. Chikorita and its line is by no means a bad Pokemon or Starter, its a myth, its good, its just that in Gen 2, the other 2 are better, thats it, both Scott and Squidgy have shown this in Crystal, but Fire Red is not going to be kind, it is decently bulky at least and as a decent moveset. good news for you. it has taken all day, but I have my Waterfree, I can start the last of my runs now and give you the results, I have theory crafted a lot with it and think I know how it is going ti run already.
@@jptheflipper3825 My brain thanks you! I thought you'd mentioned that the Black Belt came from some in the Fighting Dojo? That must be a special case if I'm remembering that correctly. Farming from a wild Pokémon definitely begs the question of time. That would have been worth it on Shuckle for sure. Muk with Bulk Up will be nice. Acid Armour too will really help with those EQs. I'll have to check out Scott's Emerald video before I run Muk for a warm up. Muk with set up and STAB Sludge Bomb with do very well I feel. Good good. I'm glad that I'm not making a total ass of myself :P The amount of feedback I've been getting during the streams and in the comments after has been so helpful. SoulSilver is a massive game. I'm super curious about how long it'll take when I take the first shots at it solo. That's true. It's really something that I have to test and I feel like a Slaking and X run will be a good way to introduce myself before taking on the little charged up bunnies. Once I get ahead a hair with production I'm going to take a shot at a run with it. See what happens! And I agree. The depth of possibility in these games is wowing. That and I can't recall but how much higher is Steven's team than the League in Emerald? I know it isn't Red levels but it's quite high. I'm really interested in checking out other steel types like Aggron. Slower, but pretty menacing. That's 100% what I went with for the Painasect run :P It's true though! I really enjoyed seeing the number of people who had said that, or that it made them remember their first playthroughs of the game with their starters. Such a cool feeling. If Sceptile got Growth - it'd be a SpAttacker. Hands down. Especially with Crunch as an egg move? Oh yeah! I was vaguely hoping that Chikorita's bulk will help it out in FR. But we'll see. I have some more fun ones to run first :P Am I that predictable? Well.. yes probably. Blaziken is one that I'm weighing out getting Meowths simply for cash. Flamethrower > Blaze Kick after all. I don't want to think of Oddishs yet. I'm a Fire Type this week! As my stomach twists with anxiety..... That's awesome!!! I'm definitely on team Waterfree. I'm so curious about what kind of results you get with it.
@@Eggsceptional yes the black belts a special case, makes sense that the black belts have black belts on their team members, it can be a time sink trying to get the items you really need, it can be a simple matter of not repelling and thief every onix and graveller you come across in rock tunnel and victory road, there are more than enough that at least one might. Shuckle needed a lot more than a hard rock to help it, rollout can only be so good with 90% accuracy after all. Bulk up would of been good, but it might have to settle for curse as an egg move, its super slow already so losing speed for bulk wouldn't hurt it much and you will love STAB sludge bomb it is such a strong move for Fire Red, very little resists it and the 30% poison chance is very nice. trust me if you were making an ass of yourself we would tell you. as for times for solo runs, hard to say, Crystal tends to have a theme of sub 2 hour as good and sub 90 minutes is great, given the different routing needed for SS, I'd say a 2 hour finish would be great. charged up you say? could it be the Pika clones of Hoenn per chance? I will say it now, they will be rough, very rough, I've seen it tried before. you may like Volbeat and Illumeise (or however it is spelt) as well for that kind of run. Slaking will be a monster with whatever you run it with, but a think something that can protect it will be best. all of Stevens Team is in the 70's opposed to Red's 80's, but the team is rougher, he opens with a Skarmory and then goes heavy with Craydol, the fossils, Aggron and goes for a finisher with ace Metagross, it hits very very hard with STAB Meteor Mash. in a solo, it is so very rough but doable, its one of those save all your rare candies for kinda of battles, pickup in emerald is not as good as in fire red, so rare candy farming with the zigzagoon army is not an option. I always forget it gets crunch as an egg move, should I assume that will make an appearance for the VS. you could try it in Gen 4 where crunch is physical and swords dance will boost it as well as leaf blade and dragon claw, weird thought isn't, a pure special set becoming a pure physical in the space of a Gen and you get a TM swords dance for the boos. I think it was Michael from MandJTV that often claimed to have used just Sceptile for his whole 1st run of ruby and then just added Groundon for the league, I imagine many did that when Gen 3 was new, I went with Mudkip, I have new Gen 3 favorite, but I still go mudkip, in a team, its good to have a water type from the off in Hoenn and it pairs well with Ludicolo. ah memories its bulk isn't bad and neither is its attacking stats, decent mixed attacker mixed defender kind of Pokemon, similar to registeel in that regard, but its movepool is very bad especially in the early game, you will have swords dance for the R2, might go nicely with ancient power on the egg move and earthquake, throw in body slam for good measure and you're good to go. I have a feeling what you got coming next is going to be good, a little rough, but it'll be good. flamethrower is better, but less flavorful, considering I think you'll go full physical, a stronger STAB option is for the best, Blazikan is decent as a mixed attacker but the lack of special moves lets it down, if I may suggest a novel approach, a special attack increasing nature, but focus your EV's in speed and special defense if possible, bulk up will cater to the physical side, the nature the special attack so a little special defense and speed training will round it out. I can give you some results so far, I tested HP water on Brock (reset after so I can stick with my rules) and it swept no problem. I also calculated its base power is around 50, it does about the same as confusion, but it doesn't one shot Charmander, which makes me nervous for Charizard and Blaines Arcainine. but by then I will have rain dance to weaken them. I will think on my moveset a little too, I want sleep for this run, Sleepfree was not fun
@@jptheflipper3825 That's actually a fair point, particularly with legendaries like Groudon when my Repels weren't repelling anything in Victory Road anyway :P But yes, particularly on weaker 'mons it seems like a really good idea. At least those locations are on the normal route anyway. Sludge Bomb is going to be great, and in combination with Curse? Our Spe would be trashed anyway and at least Curse will set up Def as well for the EQs. I'll keep it in mind - the request list for VS battles is insanely long right now :P I was kind of thinking along the same lines. Where FR my best times in the postgame are around the 1:20 mark, SS my best times will be in the 1:50-2:00 mark. We'll see though! Maybe the absurd amount of fodder and weird XP scaling will help in the long run? I honestly haven't seen a HUGE amount of Gen 2 content so I'm not sure. That was my thinking. I hadn't remembered Volbeat/Illumise so they'd be another fun team to run with. But yes, something to protect Slaking while removing Truant? That feels like a really fun "explore the format" type of run :D That's true - unless you level up your Zigzagoons though right? The chance for Rare Candies increases as they level up yes? I mean... It again becomes a question of time investment. But yes.. I foresee a lot of Rare Candies being saved for Red. I went with Mudkip in my original playthrough of Sapphire and there was no contest about it beyond that. My Water type + Ground type which I also loved? Brilliant Pokémon, good design. Ah yes. That is a crazy switch though going from full special to full physical between generations. I'd considered the pieces individually, but not as a whole. That's wild! I've completed the second playthrough of Blaziken and I won't reveal too too much about it yet, but our ideas mostly aligned in the first playthough, but the second one I deviated from what you'd suggested. I had considered a Spe increasing nature at the cost of SpA quite heavily actually when routing the second playthrough from experience in the first. I'll let the video fill in the rest - but this was another one where it tickled my brain. The answer was obvious, but the BEST answer was not. No kidding sleepfreefree was awful! I don't even want to think about it! So your set becomes HP Water, Rain Dance, Sleep Powder and "X". I feel like Psychic rounds it out nicely, but may lack power in some situations. I'll be interested to see what you come up with!
Yeah that will be super fun!! Swampert is an absolute unit and I'm pretty sure Mudkip is pretty powerful for it to be a first form pokemon! Also I hope you'll give Starmie its run where it's a Starmie for the entire run
The reason I decided to go with 0 IVs is because it then makes the result repeatable for ANY Treecko that attempts the game. I've had a few comments saying they want to try Treecko themselves after watching the first run - which is new and I love it. The reason I go with max/near max 31 IVs in the second is because that's how I enjoy playing the game the most. Seeing what's theoretically possible under ideal circumstances. Plus, random is exactly that. Random. I'd like some amount of consistency between my results. I appreciate the input! I'll stick with the format for a bit longer with a few different Pokémon. A single result doesn't prove a theory :)
Crunch would have been! At the moment I'm keeping my two rulesets mostly different - starting unevolved and staying as close to a "vanilla" experience just starting with a new Pokémon. The VS series is where I like the egg moves to level the playing field and add diversity. I'm tempted in SS though to always include the egg moves. Difficulty has a way of requiring more options :P Thanks!
What's with that right? Both Torchic and Mudkip end up dual typed why did poor Treecko get stuck with the mono type? Dragon would be made this run WAY different :D Thanks!
It was really interesting to lean into Sceptile's lower stat. But I feel like the ability to set one up while the other is naturally higher was an interesting balance. Especially for those darn Steelix :P
It was definitely more of a struggle, but I'm so happy with the results. At first I couldn't tell if it was the new methodology or Sceptile just not being great! Stay tuned for Blaziken :)
I plan on running all of the starters from Gen 1, 2, and 3 in this format starting unevolved. Then I'll toss them all into a massive VS series starting fully evolved with an egg move. That's the plan anyway!
Right? Who would have thunk that Sammy could be so threatening? Granted, the game is balance around having a Grass/Poison starter. I don't eggsactly play by the original rules all the time :P
It seems like it might be more reasonable to just take a Pokémon with random IVs, as would be the case during a normal play through for a normal player, for first attempts.
That's a fair point, but also why I chose to go with 0 IVs. It makes the results of my first playthrough repeatable for ANY Treecko. I'm willing to suffer a little more for the sake of information :) It's been cool seeing how many people want to re-attempt Treecko after seeing my 0 IV run - it's a new theme in the comments that I didn't eggspect. Thanks for your input!
Both :P
I actually enjoyed the 0 IV run. If there's a sticking point, that run WILL find it. I also like that it's repeatable for anyone to pick up Treecko and go. I'm eggscited to keep playing with the format!
Thank you, I appreciate it :)
I never realized how much of a difference the IVs make. Run 1 really was a struggle. Great video, looking forward to the next!
Well, the mono Grass typing certainly wasn't doing us any favours either 😅 Thanks :)
Can’t wait for this one the sceptile line is my favorite starter line
I hope I did Sceptile proud in this one! It was a bit of a brain tickler :)
Eggcellent! Love your runs!
Thank you! Plenty more to come :)
I always forget how smug Sceptile's sprite looks :D
Yeah, I'm mono Grass, what? My brother's a Dragon. It isn't a big deal 😅
So true 😂
Love the videos! Keep the work up, it will blow up one these days! Quality editing.
Thank you, I appreciate you saying that :) One project at a time!
Hey man, I hope the algorithm blesses you soon. Your content deserves it %1000
Thank you, I appreciate you saying that :) One day at a time!
I just discovered your channel and im glad that another awesome TH-camr does pokemon challenge runs. Love the content!
Thank you! I'm glad the algorithm has brough another viewer to this eggcentric little corner of the internet :)
Looking forward to watching this when I can!:) have a good weekend!
I hope you enjoy it when you do! Have a great weekend :)
I've been using your videos as kinda of a podcast, just listening while doing other stuff. It helps that you have a really nice voice!
That's awesome! I'm glad that you've been enjoying them, and thank you :) I try my best to take care of my voice
I'm Halfway the video & it's suprising how much effort it takes even when so overleveled
But it is a rather strange choice that developers had not giving it an access to rock slide too.🤔
By the way both you and Kangaskdan did an amazing job with overlay. 😊
And also sometimes we all have burnout,so don't worry about it.
@@Eggsceptional Yeah, running with 0ivs can be tough at first , because that 15% difference between stats can make or break some major battles.🤔
Developing an overlay is really cool regardless, making the data appear nice and clean is an important job to do as well.
@@Eggsceptional Right on 😄
Glad to be early will watch the video while eating like always keep up the good work ^^
I hope you enjoyed it! Thank you :)
Thanks :)
Nice looking forward to it
Hope you enjoyed it! I have a Jolteon video to check out now ;)
Your adjustments was like the 2016 Cavs, down 3-1 and totally flipped it ❤
Only if they too came in with a newer, stronger, faster team like I did :P IVs make a difference! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had a blast playing these runs. Thanks!
Hi :)
gj, i quite liked sceptile in emerald
also good job with the interface
but while it doesnt effect the ranking, im not sure about 0 iv on the first round, seems like it dampens the learning effect a little, and increases the workload since you maybe have to calculate more battles than necessary? just an opinion though, i dont really mind that much
Shark :)
Thank you!
Just one catch I'll not set IV to 0
It will be random.
And yes this run was fun.
That's so cool! I love that about the 0 IV format is that anyone can pick up Treecko and get similar/better results :)
I'm glad it was fun!
Sceptile doesn’t have access to Rock Slide in Gen 3.
Holy alliteration world record. That was 9 in one sentence.
"S" was surprisingly sticky to attempt to string together! It threw me for a bit of a loop. Thanks :)
24:05 are we sure that leaf blade is super effective against the steelixeseses? i mean it killed them...
I will never understand how the Steel type works 😅 That should have been neutral damage. Thanks for letting me know!
Wow! I was VERY wrong
@@fortello7219 Sceptile’s low defenses are part of what makes its stats less balanced than Venusaur’s, which was the first thing I said.
Shark Beaks would be easier to find I feel, but the Dragon and Bug items are likely a hard no :P
I don't want to overdo a single typing - so I'm trying to take a small break from Bugs/Poison. But I do like that VS for the future. I need more data! I absolutely feel that FireRed is where I'll be staying. I have little to no interest in tackling Emerald anytime soon. Eventually, sure! But there's plenty of Emerald content around already. Scott will be better at it than I am anyway :D
Those are good points.
Eventually :P
Me, learn a lesson?
Like I've said - I enjoy things that test my brain not my patience :P
It was funny, I checked out Sceptile on smogon while pondering the second playthrough, and they ALL wanted +Spe natures.
I think it was Michael from MandJTV that often claimed to have used just Sceptile for his whole 1st run of ruby and then just added Groundon for the league, I imagine many did that when Gen 3 was new, I went with Mudkip, I have new Gen 3 favorite, but I still go mudkip, in a team, its good to have a water type from the off in Hoenn and it pairs well with Ludicolo. ah memories
its bulk isn't bad and neither is its attacking stats, decent mixed attacker mixed defender kind of Pokemon, similar to registeel in that regard, but its movepool is very bad especially in the early game, you will have swords dance for the R2, might go nicely with ancient power on the egg move and earthquake, throw in body slam for good measure and you're good to go.
I'll keep it in mind - the request list for VS battles is insanely long right now :P
I was kind of thinking along the same lines.
That feels like a really fun "explore the format" type of run :D
That's true - unless you level up your Zigzagoons though right?
Hell yeah
STAND UP RIGHT NOW. Weren't we singing Rev Theory?
I cant wait for the Mudkip line!! Swampert will destroy this game!!
I'm looking forward to both runs! First, Mudkip evolving into a boss, and then the eventual VS starting as Swampert. Oh yeah. Thanks :)
Yeah that will be super fun!! Swampert is an absolute unit and I'm pretty sure Mudkip is pretty powerful for it to be a first form pokemon! Also I hope you'll give Starmie its run where it's a Starmie for the entire run
@@tylerhartman3034 Absolutely! Just give me time :) I'm refining my process more lately to try to dive into more VS videos.
CAN NOT WAIT FOR BLAZIKEN BABY!
I don't want to spoil anything.. but Blaziken has been SO fun :D
Just got done with work and just missed the premiere! So close!
So close. But it's there for when you're ready :) I hope you enjoy!
@@Eggsceptionalalready am. Great way to relax after work
@@chrisdixon7377 Eggscellent :) Cheers!
"how much overlay do you want ?" "YES." :)
MOAR!!! Moar overlay :)
Thoughts on doing just random ivs? 0 ivs is too hard and 31 is too easy. Just a thought, love the vid anyway!😊
First I was sceptical that Sceptile, being susceptible to so many types (...)
Our chance of success seemed slightly slim?
2:43 early onixiseseseses lol and 18:51 for more onixiseseseses lol
18:32 for the brunononono lol and song is 18:59 lol 24:04 for steelixeseseses
Amazing :D Every time I finish a render I keep thinking about forgetting Dewgongongong... Thanks :)
Hello, loved the video!! I was wondering why you did not allow an egg move for tgis run like in other runs? Crunch could have been great!
I’m looking forward to the other starters
As am I! But this run definitely made me wary of Chikorita in the future. Thanks :)
@@Eggsceptionalchikorita will definitely be tough. Also im loving these videos since they take place in my favorite kanto game
@@crispyjokingtuna1495 Mine too. I can't get enough FireRed! I'm hoping Chik's defensive stats help.. but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
I wish Game Freak would've just let my boy be part dragon in his base form 🥲. Great run tho and he's still my favorite gen 3 starter
What's with that right? Both Torchic and Mudkip end up dual typed why did poor Treecko get stuck with the mono type? Dragon would be made this run WAY different :D Thanks!
Sceptile needs to be a primarily physical attacker or at least like Inferape where it can go eighter route
It was really interesting to lean into Sceptile's lower stat. But I feel like the ability to set one up while the other is naturally higher was an interesting balance. Especially for those darn Steelix :P
Treecko
Treecko and Torchic in the back. We got Mudkip and Marshtomp, here in the track. Wait.. we weren't Pokérapping?
Algorithm.
Appreciated :)
Darn. I missed the stream. Enjoy my watch time anywah
I hope you enjoy it! Happy travels :)
Gump is best boy at Pokémon and chess 😃oh wait..
Or was that ping pong? Running?
The 0 IV run reminds me of playing through Pokémon sapphire with only a Blaziken as a kid and getting walled super hard by the ice type guy in the e4
It was definitely more of a struggle, but I'm so happy with the results. At first I couldn't tell if it was the new methodology or Sceptile just not being great! Stay tuned for Blaziken :)
I only just started watching this run, so I don't know if you address it later, but are you also planning on doing the gen 2 starters too?
I plan on running all of the starters from Gen 1, 2, and 3 in this format starting unevolved. Then I'll toss them all into a massive VS series starting fully evolved with an egg move. That's the plan anyway!
@@Eggsceptional That's sounds awesome! And also like a lot of work. I'm looking forward to it, thanks for the videos and keep up the food work!
❤
Let me guess HP Fire or ground?
Both good options, but I won't spoil the video this early after release :) Thanks!
It's crazy how many pokemon in your runs have struggled vs the weedle trainer, someone who is supposed to be relatively easy in normal gamepkay
