As a man that grew up in the 80s the Thundercats is one of my top 4 along with He-Man Transformers and G.I. Joe. I'm 48 now but these shows will always have a place in my heart.
You know , I am 50 years old now , and rewatching this has brought me to tears , but of joy , how could it not ?! , having had the privilege of growing up on those days was the best experience I could ever ask for , I can honestly say I had the most wonderful childhood a kid could ever want and this cartoon was an intricate part of it ❤❤❤
Man, I so feel you. I had a sword of omens and claw when I was a kid and I must've summoned the thunder cats hundreds of times in my yard. I love this show. I watch anime nowadays to soothe my awesome cartoon itch.
I'm a baby at 40 but sataurday mornings watching thundercats with my Dad is some of the best memories I have. I loved the thunder tank and it fighting the fist pounder so much it sticks in my mind now. Happy days
"I may lose, but it won't be because I gave up" was one of the earliest life lessons I learnt as a kid. Many years, or decades, down the line, this is still my go to philosophy to show up, put in a shift and keep on fighting no matter the odds. Such wisdom from a kids cartoon. What a show.
These scenes prove that it's not the latest animation, the number of check boxes a show can check, or even the toys it sells. It the heart behind it that makes a show great.
You know, most of the animation was done by Pacific animation, when the company disbanded, Hayo Miyazaki took the crew and made studio Ghibli. You can see miyazakis work in the nether witch episode. This was anime made for American kids. The time they put into the quality of some of the episodes really shines, it was kinetic and powerful, with stories that had honor, duty, kindness and loyalty woven in. I also learned from an animator advertiser here in nyc, that many of them would study the thunder cats opening for inspiration and techniques
@@fun-with-purpose1436 That explains a lot. The animation style of Studio Ghibli films always felt familiar to me when I saw them after watching Thundercats and now I know why.
This is definitely a nostalgic IP that needs to be brought to live action!! It’s past time. All of these seasons serve as the perfect blueprint and source material to draw inspiration from.
Growing up in India, I remember my first exposure to Thundercats was through DD Metro which was syndicating some of the western TV shows like Captain Planet Phanton 2040 and Mummies Alive. Thundercats stood out, and still stands out in memory because of the refreshing sonic landscape that it created. The sword's power and abilities were communicated through all the sounds. The gurgling sound anytime the eye opened, the metallic swishes when the sword expanded, and Liono's Magestic voice. It didnt matter that the colour pallette used in thundercats was a littel faded an that we were using a CRT TV to watch it. It was a beautifully made show.
The Jaga vs. Grune match was the best. And I love how Lion-O addressed him as the mightiest of all since Jaga was his mentor. And that moment when he commanded Jaga to take his strength… like a son giving back to his father. Goosebumps all over.
Thundercats was and is the best series! The intro was the bomb considering they didn't have digital art in the eighties. But in spite of that, it was a great show.
I always wondered if Grune was actually a Blood Thundarian or not since he was unaffected by the Thundrainium. Even Lynxo, Bengali, and Pumaira were affected by it before they became Thundercats. Unless going evil somehow granted him immunity which even for an 80's show makes no sense
@@digitaladventurer2142I also wondered the same. Even the official Thundercat Wiki stated that the reason behind Grune’s immunity has never been explained. My only theory is because he drained the Thundercats’ thundrillium reserves to grow to an immense size, which may have also provided some resistance to the effects of thundrainium.
I was a kid when I first saw them. So many decades later I tear up watching the Thundercats especially the Intro. Memories of a happy carefree childhood. Thank you so much.
Your choices are great. The episode where Grune fights Jaga has my favorite line of all time "Better an honest enemy than a false friend"! Such a beautiful show!!

Man I always thought as a child that cheetara loves lion-o some parts do show that she does love him I remember that one flying robot pushes cheetara towards lion-o and she ends up in lion-o's arms and after that she was blushing. I am really excited for the new launch of Thundercats comics published by dynamite entertainment coming in 2024.
Thundercats was the very first property I went crazy for as a kid. Thank you for this, brother! I never had the toys as we were poor then, but it didn't matter too much to me as my mom made me cardboard cut-outs which was enough for me. Happy holidays!
@Super1866 I have exactly the same memories. I also had the panini ThunderCats sticker book but I only had a handful of stickers since we couldn't afford them. Thank you for sharing your ThunderCats experience, mate!

I used to watch this cartoon in Spanish when I was a kid, wow, such great memories...ALSO, this cartoon made me realize I had a little sugar in my tank if you know what I mean, LOL, 😆😆
Thanks for putting this together. Def some of the best scenes. need to follow up with a part two. I loved when the eye punched through the ground when Lion O was fighting the spider. FYI, there's a new comic book series coming in January 2024 from Dienamite Comics!
Jaga and Groons battle is by far my favorite especially when lion-o commanded him as lord of the Thundercats he had to obey because of his loyalty and his sworn oath!!!
It was pretty awsome when Lion-O summoned Jaga to confront his old enemy and former friend Grune. What made this fight pretty significant was that not only was Jaga's fight was Grune was personal, but also it was symbolic what it means to be a Thundercat is and how Grune disgraced his title. Jaga was pretty the embodiment of the Code of Thundercats, Lion-O especially saw him as this. I bet when Lion-O summoned his surrogate father figure, I bet he felt a great sense of nostalgia and was greatly happy to see his old mentor again. It pretty much makes the battle even more heartwarming and powerful as for Lion-O and the others, Jaga was the best of them and it was very fitting for him to be the one to defeat Grune. One of the best episodes in the series.
I know right? Great writing right there (the author of that episode was Leonard Starr, one of the best from the series). Even though Jaga was the embodiment of rightfulness, we learned later on that he unwillingly destroyed Thundera making him one of the Thundercats' Villains.
Excellent grouping of scenes. Thank you for sharing this! You brought me back to my childhood when these Thundercats were my biggest heroes and they taught me life lessons that were relevant to our real world. Gen Z never had a series like this, or like GI Joe or anything else that sent a good message, now all they get is virtue signaling. All we can do is pass these shows along to our little ones and hope it helps!

what a fucking amazing time to be a kid. This show was so solid, sure there were some filler episodes, but over all, what a cool premise and amazing characters.
What really makes this a great show is the message it delivers. Never give up. Even when all hope seems lost, victory can always be achieved, as long as u don't give in.
Calling his sword from space, it's an amazing scene. Seeing that giant cat beaming from the sword, it's the times of wonder, when good was magical and aweing.

My personal favourite is S1 ep58 the Mountain. Lion O summoning the Thunder cats while being drained by thundrainium and the resulting cry out is fantastic
The astral prison episode is also a winner. Where Lion-O risks his life to save Jaga who is imprisoned in the astral realm. The animation is top notch, by pacific animation studio, who were Japanese animators. When they disbanded, a Hayo Miyazaki took some of the animators and made studio Ghibli
thundercats also introduced a disabled character, Lynxo, and mentioned brailleboards or braille displays as we know them now. Amazing! and Snarf was underrated as a character. I loved Snarf so much. I'm blind, can anyone tell me, did the animators manage to give 3d affect to the drawings? I seem to remember they did, I was able to see thundercats for myself for about a year before I lost my sight, but didn't get to see beyond first 65 eps, as they weren't available in the UK.
Nice choices for best moments. One of my favorites is when Lion-O called on the Stone Giant to fight the marshland monster and he through him the sword to help....the background music for that scene gave me chills.
