Honestly, playing the color hack Dream Land 2 DX geniunely gave me whole new appreciation for the game. The levels have distinguishable setpieces and goregous colors that make every level feel like someplace new, there's an option where the Animal Friend theme only appears in the first level you find them in, which allows for the banger of Big Forest to shine. Now granted, the flaws of the later levels are still evident, but just these additions to the game turned Dream Land 2 into an underrated gem in my eyes.
>Dislikes disabled by owner but since you're a fellow unironic lopunny fan, i'll let it slide thanks for talking about this trilogy, i have a thing with creatures where their face is just one eye! :) Also the DL2 artwork of Dark Matter Swordsman is still my favorite version of the character, his 3d model from Robobot did not save him though
Oh thanks for pointing that out! I didn't realize I turned likes and dislikes off, I'll go fix that now, sorry about that! Glad to see you enjoyed the video! Hope you're excited for the next parts!
Honestly when I played through it I really liked the progression of start world, look for rainbow drop, breeze through the rest of the levels after I collect it and I didn't mind getting the rainbow drops, and looking back I have no idea how that happened. Of course it wasn't the best Kirby game, but I still found it to be a really fun experience It wasn't even that long since I played it, just like 1-2 years ago or something, I should really give it a 2nd try, not to see if I like it more the second time around, but to see if I really don't mind the rainbow drops
In regards of Dark Castle featuring stages that mirror others' design, it's probably something to do with a castle's symmetry, and it's a concept I've seen used in other media. Who knows, it may be just level design reusage.
Maybe, although I'm still not too keen on just flipping things around with super minor tweaks like that. I think if they added some more substantial changes to the flipped layouts like more enemies or something it would've worked better if they were dead set on flipping everything around!
I didn't like this game much either, but I can appreciate the introduction of the animal friends, creative bosses, and the overall charm of it. I think dream land 3 was way better, but I guess it was interesting to see how these games started and how they improved and changed. One thing I don't get is why people criticize the collectables the most, since what I hated the most was all the bad stuff about the gameplay. The stuff that was mentioned in the video, along with getting stunned by enemies or bosses for entire seconds, making it way harder to get get your ability back if you lost it. (In adventure losing your ability was less of an issue since you could run, and you didn't constantly get stunned or hit.) Also the bosses in general were way too hard..
sorry, but upon finishing this game after finishing every mainline kirby before forgor, l think it was the most refreshing kirby game because of how challenging it was. Dark Matter was peak final boss, everything l want from it. No gimmicks, no focus on spectacle, and most of all no bullshit, it was just as tough as nails but just as fair, without it being a deconstruction of a hard boss meant to punish those for wanting a challenge in kirby. l wish alternate endings can return, ones you actually have to EARN, not just stumble to a good ending because you happen to have the minimum requirement already and never being aware there was a bad ending to begin with. They were the best incentive to completing a game and honestly, happy endings aren't satisfying when they are just served to you (me thinks saving every waddle dee in forgor should resurrect Elfilin instead of that Clawroline asspull) Besides, what's wrong with "bad endings"? they're enemy rollcalls with catchy music, also good endings and you get both of them. also Dark Castle was still a better final level than Royal Road.
Ah, interesting perspective you've got there, nice to see you really enjoyed the game! Personally, I think Dark Matter is a little lacking in comparison to most other final bosses because it's either insanely punishing or piss easy depending on how you tackle it. It's mostly the fault of the Rainbow Sword and it's properties though. A different weapon could've easily made the fight a lot better, and I think if the fight was like the DL3 fight with more attacks, higher difficulty, and a better weapon, I would've liked it a lot better. DL3 I feel was just a better challenging game, because looking back at DL2 I found it less challenging in most instances and more cryptic and strange than anything else. DL3 has a lot more varied and better executed challenges, like puzzles, minigames, execution based or platforming challenges, etc., all of which get built on over the course of the game with multiple stages to shine in. I'm also in the minority that the bad endings weren't a bad concept and I wouldn't mind seeing them come back! It really was satisfying earning some of the good endings and while I think some games wouldn't really need them, having them come back or at least adding a little something extra to the ending if you get everything would be appreciated by me and many other completionists out there! Loved the enemy roll calls too, as someone who loves Kirby enemies, I always enjoyed learning all their names as a kid! And Dark Castle better then Royal Road... nah. Royal Road certainly has issues with recycling content and absolutely killing Triple Deluxe's pacing, but the feeling stage 1 gives off and the amazing music is enough to make it better... even if it's not by THAT much. Still, I'm really glad to see a DL2 enjoyer out here even if I'm not the game's biggest fan, it's not a bad game, just one I found weaker than the others. Hope you were still able to enjoy the video despite our clashing viewpoints on some things and thanks for the good comment!
All the extra collectables in the Dark Matter Trilogy are not fun to collect imo, even in 64 which I think is the best of those 3, which always results in bad endings. Zero is the most edgy dude tho so I still enjoy their existence.
To each their own! I really don't like the Rainbow Drops myself, but personally I enjoy most of the Heart Stars and Crystal Shards. I'll talk about those more when I get to my videos on those games, but glad we can all agree Zero is awesome!
@@allanalmendros803 I don't like puzzles, I always prefer when Kirby has a combat oriented moveset. Plus I think a lot of them are really cryptic, and being forced to hold onto an ability I don't think is fun isn't fun. Having to beat a ton of KDL3 stages twice because I don't know what I was doing until I get a hint at the end is annoying, having only one shot at memory games or whatnot at the end of levels and having to do the entire level over again as punishment for failing is tedious. And overall I don't like the level design in these games, it's a ton of flat terrain with small hills or pits littered with enemies.
@@Vulnresati Thats the thing i dislike combat kirby, it to simple and brainless for me, if wanted a combat game i play megaman zero or castlevania, kirby is a platformer not a combat game, also its not criptic at all besides the memory game that is bs, the clues are base on powers and the companions it won take you long to develop a pattern for puzzle. I hate superstar that game is brainsless and plays itself that dark matter games you need to learn and experiment
@@allanalmendros803This might sound like a ridiculously nerdy and unnecessary thing to ask, but just for clarification: you've played through Very Hard of the Kirby Fighters subgame in Triple Deluxe and for its sequel(s), right? That shit makes you learn the mechanics of ability combat, what with the franchise being a sibling to Smash Bros (with that being said, it's a Platformer-Fighter hybrid). May not be overtly complex- even necessarily difficult, but it makes combat against bosses fun if you can actually know how to use an ability proper.
I disagree, i dont like color gb hacks they dont look correct to me, is like link awakening to DX, DX makes thing looks worse some times and dosent add depp
Underrated channel. Commenting to help the algorythm.

The Light ability never existed, it's all a myth us Kirby fans like to spread around for funsies
