I kinda wish this was an esport. Maybe it wouldn't be the most fun to watch, but the amount of skill and concentration Zone mode takes is definitely something that should be explored in a competitive setting.
People need to actually give a shit about the games for them to be an esport. Look forward to seeing all two of you at the next championship, I guess we will have to do the competing too.

you know what would have made this even more awesome? if there was only a "zone" music track, that, when you got up to the higher speeds, started to sound more distant and muted
+xoyv *5 months later* I'm pretty sure you could whip up a playlist. You can find the average time it takes to get to say, Phantom class, and from there, you could make the music get more distant and muted every say, minute for example. Of course, this would require some editing to do.
I remember watching someone who started with energetic music but the playlist slowly got quieter and more epic over the zones. can't find their video any more tho. i think they got around zone 118.
@@aggroknight4259 At certain point there is not reaction, your brain create the track before your eyes saw it + muscle memory + anticipation. Will be impossible to achieve that speed and control with a first time track.

neoqueto Yeah, the jump from Super Zen to Subsonic (Zone 50) is the first noticeably tough boost. But with all things, a bit of practice and you'll soon be making it to Zone 50 without getting hit and then Zone 100 will become the new Zone 50!

I'm bad at these games. I don't know if you have an idea from the perspective of somebody that is used to being slow and comes from turned-based JRPGs.^^ Zone 20 was hard to reach for a long time for me. Then something clicked. and it went well till zone 30, then 40 pretty quick (a few days ?). Zone 50 was a miracle at that time.^^ I was happy to get it only with trigger controls (then learned that they were way easier for high-speed control by practice^^). And only after a week or so I could reach Zone 50 (subsonic) pretty easily. But damn, tho I've not touched the game for years, I remember I couldn't handle it even after a few weeks of semi-regular practice. At subsonic, my brain goes into panic mode and I make mistakes (especially on that part without walls, 2/3 of my health goes into that^^). Never went past Zone 68... I know I can do it if I put too much time into it.^^ But from somebody that's bad at these kinds of games, I can confirm : there are hard steps before Zone 50, but nothing prepares you for that one.^^

6.30 love that track. this track is great because it has plenty of straights to get your shield back if you bash off the wall. Others are not so forgiving. this is a great run, its just so fast.
I miss playing these games in the 90s on the big screen arcade in NYC. Their was a club in NYC called TOO MUCH IS NOT ENOUGH that was replicated for the movie Hackers. It was a Bar/Arcade/Indoor Skate Park. And when you were there, it felt like you were inside the tech hub of the world. So many great memories there. I touched my first boobs there, hahahaha
Such an underrated game. Zone Zeus was one of the hardest trophies I've ever got but I tell ya what I would wake up at like 5 am before work and hop on to drink my coffee and smoke my cig and play this shit every day. Good music too. Downloading a ps3 emulator right now to attempt it again.

this is very impressive, but there's just something about this newer wipeout that makes me prefer the older titles maybe it's because the ship and the camera move in relation to each other a lot more
It's because the physics of how the ship controls and behaves with the airbrakes changed in either Pure or Pulse. With the older games the airbrakes acted more like a drift and with the newer physics they behave like they're actually "air brakes" if that makes any sense.
