Garnett was a very brave man it sounds like. This story was told so well and the scenery was incredible. Thank you and Heather for what you are doing. I think when you tell these stories it is history, of course, but by learning this history we learn that there are so many heros out there that we should remember. I hope that made sense.

Garnet Richmond's story is so tragic. A veteran--a young veteran--a father, a husband, a guy just doing his job. You folks are so right...the victims' stories are really important and truly enrich the the overall tale.
My boyfriend has a rich mine of Hatfields in his family. They're finally calming down!

I wanted to also say that your channel is my favorite. And that you and Heather seem so genuine. In your stories I can hear the care in your voice. That through your research and telling of the stories it like you've come to actually know the people who are the subjects of the story. You show such respect.
    Thank you.

Thank you for taking us along with you. You are right, this was the story of a young man who had already served his country, only to die tragically while serving his community.

Being bred, born and raised in WV (Lincoln county mostly) I love watching these videos. You both tell the stories ahh so well. It gives me joy to know that someone is out there that can tell us about WV's history that so few of would even know about if it wasn't for the 2 of you. Thank you so much for your history lessons!!!

Man I’d love to come over there and meet you guys and spend a day or two just finding some of those old historical sites, I never realized that they buried Jim Vance so far up in the woods, I figured they buried him close to Anderson and the Hatfield Family Cemetery, I could sit and listen to them old stories all day long, y’all keep up the good work.

Thanks Robert! I guess that's his family cemetery. But being he was murdered , who knows who buried him there and why. I guess just a mystery forever. Maybe his kids were there or people he loved. We can only guess.

Hello Leo & Heather! I just watched your Garnet Richmond video & thought I’d tell you about my connection to his widow & children. When Garnet was killed, his widow, Ola Mae was pregnant with his namesake. Her name is also ‘Garnet’. Ola Mae married my uncle Jim McCoy & they became a part of our family. We have lived in the same town for many years & stay in touch. Ola Mae & Garnet’s other daughter passed a few years ago & she was also much loved.
Sadly, at the time of Garnet’s death his wife was living on the same hill as the hospital where he died & they had a view of the street where he died.

I have some Blackburns in my family tree, but I haven't researched them extensively yet. Sometimes the history of the people of Appalachia reminds me of the stories about the Wild West. Just seeing a notation of "gun fight" on a death certificate conjures up those kinds of images.

Talking about wonderful & careing police, when I worked security guarding the outlet stores by Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersy a very nice officer would pop in & say; "hi" & we'd chat.
I worked 10 pm to 6 am --- he was in his patrol car & I was in mine & after the chat he drove off I came back from the rest room & over my radio came; "Oh my God, whose going to tell his wife?"
In short, some drunk folks in a car hit the officer's car head on, he died = the drunk driver & buds were fine. It wasn't but say 10 min after he left after our chat that he was killed, leaving a wife & 6 children. I just sat in the car & cried.
Point is, enjoy your time while you can, you never know when your time is up. The officer in your story sounds like he was a very nice, loving & careing man and thanks to folks like you he won't be forgotten
"Mr. Garnett, thank you for your service, God bless you." I know he's no longer here to read this, but it still doesn't hurt to say it.
The guy that killed him, like the guy that killed my police officer's friend, it takes ALOT to 'forgive' at times but if "we' want to ask for forgiveness then 'we' have to also 'forgive'. We all make mistakes & we all need forgiveness from time to time.
God bless you sir, for caring the way you do.

Have to say them there W Virginians have some interesting history, I think Mose was tossed out the window , if he wanted to kill himself he could have jumped from his hospital window i would think anyway, he might have ran down the hallway to escape & when the guards caught him they kind of said you want to escape? then they gave him a helping hand you might say lol, But was funny they just went down grabbed him from the ground & carried him back & tossed him in his bed lol, But sad Mr Richmond survived the war, came home, took a career to keep the peace & had to die this way, Rip Mr Richmond, Again thank you for sharing, Just love hearing you tell the stories, you got that born talent of making your listeners pic the scenes in their minds, not many story tellers can do that, Again a dying art really,

Mose Blackburn was my Great Uncle. Mose' sister, my grandmother, is buried in Mt View. I knew Ance, Mose' dad too. I knew all Mose' brothers n sisters. Sadly Mose died before I was born. I didn't get to meet him. I was always told growing up that Mose was pushed out the window in retaliation for killing "one of their own". I'm sorry for the mans family he shot. But this story keeps getting told that he jumped. They are all guessing. So why not tell it either he jumped or was pushed. But no! That wouldn't be. Exciting for this supposed ghostly hospital. Yes, it was in the Williamson Daily News that he jumped. That's not proof. Who saw this take place? I think things are conjoired up in people's mind about this hospital. I had my first baby in this hospital. But during my pregnancy I had complications and was put in this hospital for weeks at a time. Guess what, I saw no ghosts! Furthermore, I was put in a room all alone , saw nobody for hrs at a time. I was just on bedrest. So the devil could be creeping into some people ya think? Yes I'm angry the way the story gets told . Show me an eye witness who saw Mose"jump". Under oath and I'll believe the story. Pray before entering the hospital. GOD Bless all of ya!
