Welcome back to my life as an animation student at university. It's been very busy before my second term at university starts to wrap up and portfolio deadlines approach.
In this video, I take you around my university flat and show you what my room and shared kitchen look like for my first year at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB).

This has been really informative! I’m from NZ and have a really big interest in animation so I’ve been looking into tons of overseas schools in the UK/US/etc. and your videos have been really helpful on future decision making! I hope you enjoy your future stay in uni :D
Alsoooooo I had a few questions if you wouldn’t mind answering but no pressure
1. Were the rooms already furnished and was it mainly just personal belongings that you brought?
2. Did the *university* provide you with the cintiq or did you already have one (I have a screen tablet but it’s not a cintiq xP)
3. Do you work while also going to uni or did you just save up a whole bunch and then go :0
Heyy! I'm glad to hear that my video was helpful! Wishing you the best of luck with your uni applications! To answer your questions:
1) The rooms in student halls/accommodation are all furnished. You just need to bring along your personal belongings, bathroom products, kitchen utensils/pots and anything you may need for class. You will get a bed with mattress (usually a 3/4 double bed or single) and a desk.
2) The university did not provide me with a cintiq but you can use them on campus. This is my own one.
3) I didn't work whilst in uni in my first year but I now work in my second year. I can only fit in 1 days work considering uni workload. I get student loan from the government as I'm a UK student which covers my tuition fees entirely. so I didn't really save up but will have to pay this back after I graduate.

I absolutely love the video! Ive already booked my accommodation at home park for this year! Also I’m going to be studying animation too :)
I was wondering if you knew if there was a way to get to know you flatmates before you moved in at home park or if you just got to know them once you moved in?
Aw thank you! That's great to hear! There is an app called 'the neighbourhood' where the accomodation give you a code so that you can find others who also live in the accomodation, however the app is terrible. I would suggest you join Facebook/snapchat groups for home park and AUB instead, that's how I found one of my flatmates before moving in. :)

hi!! thank you so much for making this video! i'm starting illustration this year and i'm stuck on which accomodation to book!! 😅 i love the look of home park but i'm not sure if it's working getting the silver room because money is tight and i want to save as much as possible! what's the policy in home park for posters?? i love decorating my walls and i have a bunch of kpop posters i want to put up :')

Hey Charlotte! I'm sorry for responding to your comment so late. They don't allow you to actually put posters up but... they they dont need to know you have them up. We all do it! 😉

THis is such a fab room :D!!! I have been interested in going to AUB so i have been looking at room tours ! You said you get room inspections??!?!?! What is that like?? I'm hoping they don't go digging through your stuff,, cause that worries me a little !!
The room inspections aren't really serious at all. It takes less than five minutes and they don't look through your belongings. It's just to see if the state of the room is the same as when you moved in. :)

Hi! They don't allow you to unfortunately but I did and just took it down before inspections 😉
hey! i got offered a place at aub for animation production - just wanted to ask you what your experience with aub animation has been so far? is it enjoyable? dropping out of law to pursue animation so just wondering if im making the right choice here :)
Hey Selina! Apologies for the late response. I'm not sure if yoube made a decision yet to come study animation at AUB already but I have been enjoying it here. The course has a lot of collaboration particularly in the second year but also a great deal of individual work too. The course likes to emulate a studio environment just like in the industry. In all honesty, I didnt enjoy my first year so much but I think that may be due to covid and not being able to go into uni often and just getting used to all the changes but now in my second year, I'm really enjoying what we are doing and would encourage you to come join the course. You're drawing skills will definitely improve on the work with the amount of drawing we do throughout animation all on paper and if 2D animation is something your particularly interested in, it's great! I hope this helps

Well, I have many questions for Arts Bournemouth University, and especially I am interested in animation courses, so if anyone knows, pls answer me... You'll be very helpful to me ❤️❤️ (Also sorry if my English aren't correct):
1. How much does someone has to pay for a accomodation in this University?
2. What type of animation do they study there?
3. Does University help you a lot to improve your art skills and learn many stuff about animation?
4. How do you apply for studying there?
5. Is it worth to study animation there?
6. And last but not least, is the environment friendly and lovely? Do the teachers care about students' improvement in animation and help them when they make mistakes without judging them?
Hey Eva! Here are answers to your questions:
1. There's several accomodation for this uni but if you're looking for the price of campus halls I'd say to check the AUB website for updated prices. I stayed at Home Park in my first year at AUB and paid £174 per week in a silver ensuite on a 42 week contract I believe (2021 price)
2. Mainly 2D animation but in second year you can join a 3D or Stop Motion pathway if you prefer.
3. Yes they do. We have weekly life drawing classes and and animation and drawing part of the course so we are constantly using different mediums to create art ultimately helping us to improve our drawing skills for 2D traditional animation.
4. Apply through AUB website when they start to take applications again. They will ask for a portfolio of work.
5. Yes definitely!
6. The students and lecturers are so nice here. You can book tutorial sessions and have a 1:1 conversation if you want to with lecturers, judgement free. There's lots of collaboration on the course and always events at the uni.

Hey are you going there for school in September?
I got admit at art university bournemouth this university is good or bad what is the visa accepting rate
I would recommend coming to this uni for animation, especially if you are interested in 2D traditional animation, working with paper, pencil and a lightbox. I'm not sure of the visa accepting rate.
