    I actually echo your sentiments about anatomy and the all GEMP situation. I felt like that a lot in my third year so I ended up doing anatomy elective at the end of the year. I had dissections and lessons with some professors and postgraduate students. It's made a big difference but a lot of my friends who came on in third year really do struggle with anatomy even as senior students.

      Thanks for this video and the comment. It addressed something I have been worrying about. My situation is that I completed a B.com degree in 2009, worked for nearly 10 years and about two years ago I decided to follow my passion for life sciences and medicine. I’m on my second year of a BSc biomedical sciences at Unisa and have been doing fairly well (averaging 75-78%). I wanna apply for GEMP when I finish next year, but I’m deeply concerned about the dissection. My anatomy module at Unisa is completely theoretical and I’m worried that it might disadvantage me when applying at Wits, even if I scored 75% for that module. What can I do to better prepare myself for dissection to make up for that particular gap in my anatomy studies? Please provide any advice. Thanks again🙏🏾

    @jasonmagakwe5105 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    So bra, please advice me here..
    I did my matric in 2016, and did not attain a University entry mark. I then upgraded, studying on my own in 2017 and got a bachelor's pass though it was not much satisfying! So now I'm doing Biological Sciences at WSU.
    Amongst the options I have are:
    Go to SMU in 2019 and do BCur, reason being there they're able to take you into MBChB considering the first year's academic record (which will be my bcur).
    2nd is to go back to high school full time (which is, they cancel out my matrix then I start afresh). Then apply for MBChB straight for the 2020 academic year!
    Which one would work better? I'm stuck in between the two.. But all in all, the only thing I want to do is MBChB, I do not have a second choice whatsoever.
    Please advice

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey... it's really a difficult one hey. Firstly I wanna say your efforts in upgrading your marks in 2017 I see them and applaud you for doing that.
      How is your performance at WSU at the moment? Are you not enjoying the Biological sciences degree that you are doing? If you enjoying it and doing well in it can you not perhaps apply using those results?
      What is BCur? Is it Nursing?
      The thing is dropping the biological sciences to go do Nursing won't guarantee you a place in their medical degree so you need to always have that at the back of your mind...
      And would you cope with being back at school full time?
      I do not want to say to you between these two go for this one because 12 months is a really long time so you will have to go with your gut feeling... On the one hand nursing will expose you to the medical field

    • @jasonmagakwe5105
      @jasonmagakwe5105 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My other problem is that I registered late for the BSc here and it therefore became a challenge for me to catch up with the syllabuses and hence perform well, however, I'm not failing though.
      So if I can go for nursing, even if I may not be able to switch to MBChB as an undergraduate, at least after completion I can do with an advantage that I can even correspond (Study while working). And matric as well, I believe I can make it, given the fact that I managed to flip my marks last year while studying on my own with no competition (which motivates to work hard). And for the BSc, first of all just like nursing it doesn't guarantee entry to Medicine. But at least nursing guarantees employment upon completion whereas BSc chances of getting a job are very slim! And we must not forget that most financial aids do not fund post graduates (Esp NSFAS, which is our hope mostly).
      So I guess there exists hope in matric and BCur, though the question is: Which one between the 2 would work best

    • @jasonmagakwe5105
      @jasonmagakwe5105 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plus I also registered to rewrite some of my subjects prior to coming here.. I might as well drop out and go study more and come back with improved grades..

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      go for nursing and make sure you do very well in it

    • @leonarditumeleng1532
      @leonarditumeleng1532 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jason.
      U motivate me bra, like the courage and spirit...
      A person can flit n pass just like that especially wit the burning desire... Although it's not easy bt its possible.... ( Based on wat u said ABT late registration an Al).
      I'm currently at SMU( MEDUNSA), n ABT wat u said just like in UP even if u ddnt do Biological science u can still apply the following year wit Ur 1st year marks n b considered for MBCHB. but the problem is the competition it's tough they now rank u wit postgrad or those wit full degrees
      so the question is why shud u be admitted on ur 1st results competiting wit pipul wit full degrees the answer is Ur 1st yr marks are the ones to talk for u.... Serious distinction are needed there...
      My advice is going back to matric again it's not easy bt when Ur inside University it's easy to move around.... I would advise to go do BCUR den apply wit Ur 1st year Bcur results to UP, SMU, UKZN they all consider bt u need serious marks .....

    I Graduated with BSc in Geology but my marks aren’t good at all throughout. I don’t enjoy Geology and I’m not considering doing my honours to get good marks cause I really doubt I will.
    I was thinking of applying at Stellies for first year BSc in the biological stream for next year with the hope that I do well in first year and get into medicine in 2021. Do you think this is a good Idea? how difficult is it to make it into medicine after first year BSc at Stellies
    I’d appreciate any advice.

      Hey Rethabile thank you for the compliment I'm glad you find the channel helpful.
      Well I didn't do my BSc at Stellenbosch University so I don't know if it is easy to get in via Stellies or not but the advantage of studying at Stellenbosch University is that they only consider Stellenbosch Uni students and not students from other varsities.
      But consider the fact that at Stellenbosch University main campus they love their Afrikaans and the classes are very white but if you do your first year and do very well your chances of being accepted here will be high.

      I think it would be better for him to decide what his end goal is, like what does he want out of the degree. Is he someone that loves biological sciences and would work in a hospital lab testing blood samples among many, does he wanna branch into research be in pharmaceutical or conservation related or maybe he is into galaxies then physics and astrology would be career choice or does he wanna do chemistry. Because the filed is so brought in terms of choice. Or maybe he wants to end up doing medicine? or be in allied health sciences then we have BSc physiotherapy or B. Occupational therapy or BSc dietetics

      melokuhle theledi hey thank for your comment. I'm really sorry about your first semester results I know it's very discouraging to get such results after having put on the hours and studied. Let me share something with you regarding my own experience in my second year my results took a knock I literally just made it through I was battling TB towards the end of the year and looking at my results I really thought this was it, I'm screwed for life. But come 3rd year I put on the hours and worked so hard and my results in 3rd year were distinctions and in my applications I think medical schools took that into consideration. Remember we are human things happen and they reflect on our records and you won't be punished forever for your 1st semester results most people do battle in first year the transition from high school to University is difficult so I would say to you, forgive yourself for first semester and put it behind you and concentrate on finishing second semester on a high and reapply again next year ❤️❤️❤️. Hello, applying at first can we put the MBChB , then Biological sciences and thirdly, Bsc of health sciences - biomedical science ?

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can do that. Medicine is a selection program so should be first. The other two aren’t selection programs so it won’t matter whether they are second or third. All the best with your application do tell me how it goes

I had excellent matric results with a triple science course and trying to look into the GEMP at Wits .... what are my chances ? Or what else can I do to give me an edge ?

      @@themedguytM Here's a quick follow-up- i done Excellent in my first semester of Bsc Biological Science averaging well over 80%. I was sure I was gonna get in the midyear transfer, however got rejected because they gave preference to "designated" groups (blacks and coloreds) who averaged below 79%. So I guess whilst being a person of color you have to worry about the racial quotas.

    Hi,I am currently in grade 11,and I'm writing my June exams,which I'm going to use to apply to study medicine.For maths,physics and biology,my marks are not terrible.I get between 70% and 80%,but I'm wondering if that's actually good enough.What are my odds of being accepted?I want to study at Wits,but I will apply everywhere.Also,my school gives out 8 reports.So for term 2,I will have 2 reports,one based on the June exams,and the second one based on continuous assessments.The first one will come in the week of 20 July,and the second one will come around 10-15 August.Obviously,it will be a lot easier to get better marks in the second report,but if I apply using it,will it be too late?And will the university count it?Since most schools don't have as many reports?At the moment I'm leaning towards applying with the second one,but I don't know if it will be too late,and at the same time, I'm scared to apply with the first one,and it not be good enough,when I could have waited and applied with one that was guaranteed to be a whole lot better.I know that their are other ways to get into medicine,if me applying straight from high school doesn't work out,but in all honesty,I don't want to do that,because I feel like it will be even more difficult to get in with marks from a university degree,as opposed to marks from grade 11,simply because the work I'm doing now is probably way easier than the work I'll probably be doing in another degree.So my question is,which report would you apply with?Is August 2018 really too late apply considering I'm only doing matric next year?

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Thatohatsi relax you still have time. Do not worry about applying this year because you still in Grade 11. You can apply to medical schools next year in March/April for the 2020 academic year since you will be in Grade 12 next year then you can apply with your Grade 11 December results. Do watch the video I made about getting into medicine from Matric it will give you the admission requirements needed.
      so for now just enjoy grade 11 and focus on getting those good marks...

    • @sharmainmathabo3856
      @sharmainmathabo3856 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So what requirements need to get into wits madical school? , are matric results included ? And what if I finish my Bsc degree and medical school does not accept me what heppen then ?

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they will still consider your matric results and for your BSc you will need high 70s to be eligible so anything above 75% average for the degree. If they don’t accept you after BSc then you will either decide with postgrad studies in BSc or change careers and do your second love. Doing a BSc doesn’t guarantee entrance into medical school most people have been applying for years with no luck even with degrees
