    Wow this is so true. I was doing Bsc last year but I didn't get into medicine so I realized that I really don't wanna become a scientist so I switched to something that I've always liked which is B.pharm. I'll try medicine after my community service if I still have that passion. Thanks your videos are so enlightening🙂

    Thank you so much for this video I relate to this so much omg 💔 I did the entire BSc course which depressed me and I still did not get into medicine , I had to start over after obtaining the qualification to something else that I love. If I could turn back the hands of time I would never have done it.

    I nearly broke down and cried within the first several minutes of the video because I relate to this so much. I feel 'trapped' in a BSc Biochemistry, Microbiology and Physiology programme. The only major I look forward to is Physiology. I honestly can't wait to finish this and finally do what I love, Medicine.

    Greetings
    I'm a huge fan of your videos. Just have a few questions and I hope to hear from you soon
    what is the language of instructiions in stellenbosch school of medicine -and south african faculties of medicine generally - is it pure english or there is some afrikaans?
    for the clinical also when you deal with the patients in your clinical years is the language for communication English or another language?
    I'm interested in pursuing my MBchB in south africa and I only speak English that's why I'm asking.

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Omer thank you for the support. The medium of instruction in all our medical schools is English. Stellenbosch Uni has a dual medium of instruction English and Afrikaans but all our classes are in English but because we are in the western cape our patients speak Afrikaans and Isixhosa so we need to learn those as well because we need to communicate with them so all med schools will expect you to learn a different language depending on which languages are spoken in that province. At the University of the free state the students need to learn Afrikaans and Sesotho because their patients speak those language and University of Pretoria they need to learn Sepedi

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some course are not selection courses so what usually happens is that when applicants apply everyone that meets the criteria gets offered the place until the spaces are filled so it’s first come first serve. But with selection courses like medicine they wait for applications to close then after that they compile the lists with people who meet the requirements and automatically reject those that do not. After this is done they then rank their applicants from highest to lowest and also compile different categories together e.g black boys would compete for their spaces with other black boys and the the girls with girls in that way the system is fair to everyone

    hllw my name is aphelele im 20 years old but i want to be a doctor and good at helping other and always down to.
    so my question is, does that age can affect me from me from being admitted from universities?

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think I understand your question. Do you think you are too old or too young to apply? I mean most people just in their late teens early 20s with med school

      Your age will not have any effect in being admitted into medicine here in RSA. You can get admitted even if you are 40 years old. It might just have an effect into your career progress within medicine, for example specialsing.
      A person who starts at 40 would have to be at least 54 by the time they qualify as a specialist provided they did not fail or 51 if you start with wits GEMP. Obviously at your 50s you have a few years left of your life or years to work compared to someoene who qualifies as a specialist by their early or mid 30s (at 20, You would be on of these people if you pass everything throughout). I hope that helps :-)
      Just a side note: I think in specialisations like Family medicine & Forensic pathology being old would to some extent actually be to your advantage.

    So as I'm currently doing speech therapy, I won't get accepted to all universities for medicine until I finish my degree or it only applies in SU

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most universities in SA do not necessarily accept students doing allied health sciences because those are selection degrees as well. But you can always try rules are to be bent

    • @themedguytM
      @themedguytM  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thing is allied health sciences degrees are also selection programs hence we are always told not to put both options in the application under health sciences but it’s really not impossible to change. Try UP, UKZN and Sefako medicine is medicine everywhere
