I will definitely STOP messing with my locs now. I’ve always been a hair twirler, so it’s so hard to keep my hands out of my locs because I love the way they feel, but I will work hard to stop. Thank you!
I just got my locs over the weekend. I'm trying to prevent myself from touching my hair by wearing skull caps and durags periodically throughout the day.
I just cut 18inches off my locs! 😩 it’s still pretty long tho! Just below my bra strap! But I’ve always washed my hair every week! Every week all my life! Clean scalp, plentiful hair!
I am new to my loc journey.I have had my locs for almost 5 months, and I totally agree with you that locs are unique to each person who has them. The person who started my locs didn't tell me to wash mine she would wash them when I went on for my retwist.I was my hair on my own now. I also agree that you can't listen to what everyone else says or does. Your locs are beautiful. Thank you for this video.
Dawanna Killer13 I have micro locs and I’m super scared of build up so I used (purified people vouch for distilled though) water, rose water, and coconut oil. And then I just oil my scalp once a week after I wash my hair. You should moisturize your hair based on what your hair needs though. Some people with color treated hair would probably moisturize their hair differently.
Finally... someone speaks like me! I keep telling people that I treat my locs as a plant. That mentality has made my hair healthy and wonderfully soft.

Hey I have started my locs Seven weeks ago and I’m a little worried that my loction isn’t the best because some of my starter logs are chunkier in the middle then they are at the root of the end, what should I do? Is that the starting process before it locs or something 😭
How far are you in your journey? When you’re in the teenage stage and you get a retwist... it may not look how you want it to look because once you retwist and wherever it is budding, it will poof back out.
BeSpiffyBeYou wow thanks for the fast reply and I’m only 7weeks In, I’ve been doing things fine with my locs like spraying it with water and oil but my lock Loction did tell me not to wash it for a couple of months so That when I wash them it won’t unlock, I’m trying to have those thic nice curly long dreads but I feel like I’m going to the wrong loction
You’re welcome! You should DEFINITELY wash your hair after 3 weeks, 4 weeks max of starting your locs. Never wait super long. To have healthy locs, you have to have an healthy clean scalp. You can help prevent your locs from unraveling when washing by putting on a stocking cap of some sort. If you’re not comfortable with the current loctician or person who does your hair, definitely find someone who you trust and does your locs the way you like

Lol... In the olden days before the internet it was recommended. I started my locs in the 90's but had no clue how. I went to the library to read up on it. There was almost no information on how to start them and what I did find was use tide and beeswax 😫
Finally!!!!!!!! Someone with locs that’s tender-headed!! I am 13 months into my journey and I get told A LOT to style my locs but I don’t bc it hurts!! I just retwist them after each wash and they stay twisted for two weeks. Then I take them apart and wear them crinkled until my next wash! Thanks for posting!!

Hey Family! Y'all would be so shocked what some people do to their locs.. Your loc journey is NOT something that is complicated, so don't make it. Less is always more. What are some crazy things you heard or seen someone do to their locs? AND what are 2 things that you know you shouldn't do with your locs?
Informative tips in this video. I agree with you 💯. Thank you for providing sound advice for both new and seasoned loc wearers. This content pretty much covered half the crazy things I used to do to my locs in the past. In all my years of wearing locs, & learning about my hair, 2 things for me to avoid on my new interlock journey are to never interlocked on dry roots, & avoid washing my hair too much after swimming in the pool 3x's a week.
@staci450 😄😄 thank you lol but I discovered a helpful hack . In between wasshes , I'll have my aides wipe down my scalp with a washcloth soaked in alcohol free witch hazel . Game changer 🙌🏾
Mesmerized by your beauty. Thanks for your advice , I have had locs nearly 15 years now. I have retwisting my self almost as long. I think I understood my hair now , but good to hear advice.
I just finished twisting my hair this morning. I have never washed my hair that often before. I also don’t get as much build up in my hair because I don’t use a lot of product in my hair. I have had my break off before for failing to keep it moisturized. As long as my hair is hydrated and I eat healthy, it will grow like crazy. I used a leave in conditioner and coconut oil and Jamaican castor oil in my hair. Occasionally, I’ll use some Shea butter with essential oils, coconut and castor oils mixed in it. My hair thrives on that as long as I keep it detangled.
Thank you, this is very informative. I started my journey on my birthday; 1/22 and I’m struggling with keeping my hands out of my hair. Now I know not to do it dry. The person that started my locs did an awesome job; but she moved. I found a new person, but I guess because my locs are so frizzy and my top is not locking, she told me not to wash my hair. She said if I want it to grow and loc I should not wash it. 😔 I listened. It’s been 3 weeks and my head feels nasty 🤢. I will take your advice. Again thank you.
Never heard about laundry detergent. I've heard of dish washing liquid *dawn*...and that works to remove buildup. Just dries your hair out so you have to replace the oils and/or condition afterward.
