Good work, Sarah, in persisting with the repair until you found root cause. I like these typebar electrics, though they are not for late-night quiet typing, nor typing away from AC power (unless you have the SCM Poweriter).
my olympia xl12 electric is on of my favorites, it has a beautiful script typeface and it can take 12 inch paper so i have a project im working on that i use 12 inch scrap book paper and do a pixel art design on it with lyrics to a song i like. plus it takes the standard spool sizes which makes it easy to get multi color ribbons for it. its only quirk is the 0 key is flakey and someday ill get in there and see why lol. i like the manual return plus less electronics to mess up. i think olympia is my favorite, i like their look and the features they have Edit : Lol i should watch the video fully before commenting, my olympia is right there in your video, mine is the nakajima xl12 on the red cloth
You're right about MR vs ER - also because it's a Nakajima, the first digit in the serial number is the last digit of the year manufactured. (that's fresh info we're solidifying up now for a TWDB update) (:
I haven't ever growing collection of typewriters and I did not think I would add an electric typewriter to my collection more out of lack of interest than anything else as I appreciate manual more but just yesterday I purchased a 19 60s or '70s Smith Corona Electra 120 and it has the manual carriage return along with most everything else being manual other than the very smooth machine gun like typing on this beauty. And then you post a very similar typewriter style just this morning. I love it and I look forward to all of your videos especially you're thrifting videos.

Very nice machine! Although I'm not really a fan of electric typewriters, I very curious how the feel of a electronic typebars machine is. The only thing that holds me off these things are the electrical cords you need (duh), just because I don't want to be dependent on these kind of things, when I'm typing 😅
They're great for those who might not have as much dexterity in their hands. It's very easy to use- it feels like an old computer keyboard. I like them!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I will say I do like the look of that machine a lot. If you had a choice between the electric return or manual, which would you take? I’d go manual I think.

what if the hook is still attached and thx edit im abought to give up on fixing my e-r12 it is giving me enough trouble and yes i looked through all 700+ vids they had

I only use sewing machine oil on my typewriter or my antique sewing machine. It’s designed specifically for these fine working machines.

Maybe check the drive belt! nothing works if that's bad

Just got one for $30 but when I type the motor makes a bad noise and I can’t use the keys
You might need to clean it, and it might need a new drive belt!

That would be a broken drawband. I would see if Phoenix Typewriter has a demo on that on their TH-cam!
