I wish they'd actually explain the pay structure of the business when they told stories like this but I get why they don't because it takes a lot of the dramatics out of it. In those days the pay structure was much more akin to a commissioned salesperson, thus his deal guaranteed him $150,000 at the least but if business did well they shared in the revenue of everything and way out earned their base number. So he was showing him to focus on what he'd actually make over getting held up on the base guarantee since revenue at that point was booming (Jim Ross has spoken on Stone Cold earning $12M one year compared to his base guarantee of $1M). Smart to teach them where their comp is coming from and get them focused on the business doing better which will in turn result in doing better personally.

So Vince said the Rock should get to know what the expenses on the companies side are? He could have fliped that table my saying if he knows what wrestlers indure to even show up (traveling with all the possible problems, they taking care of transportation and hotel themselfs, no proper health care, if they don't pay for it themself), not even talking about the constant injury risk. and what Vince makes out of them of just 1 show inlcuding merch! I mean Vince pretty much admits it by saying Rock made about $50 Mio. that years they talked!

I think people missed the point (or maybe I did). The way I understood it, The Rock made the extra $14m off the non guaranteed part of the contract once he learned the business. Asking for a big guarantee was small minded, because the big money was in the incentives.. Merch especially, and The Rock was a catch phrase / t-shirt machine.
I Imagine the eye opener was finding out how much Stone Cold made on Austin 3:16 shirts....Ive heard it was $12m that first year he blew up.

@@Divyamshu-ij3uc understood, but if I extend my hand you have the choice about whether to extend yours. How often do you see people walking over and grabbing people's hands from their side? That's a little bit of a ridiculous picture you're painting there, but I understand nevertheless. Your viewpoint is that we have to thoroughly understand each other and you have to develop a deep sense of respect for me before you can even take the simple act of extending your hand for a handshake. So when you meet someone new you refuse to shake hands? That would indicate some trust and security issues there. I understand the dap up and half hug with your best of friends being reserved, but a handshake is a pretty simple gesture of greeting and you're putting far too much meaning into it. Making someone earn a simple handshake before you even know them would indicate some judgment and arrogance in my opinion and make me not care to even think about being good enough in your eyes to earn a simple handshake. Now that's probably not where you're coming from but you need to realize how you're coming off if you project that sort of energy with people. Just saying my friend, the world is not here to earn your trust and the majority of it could care less about it. Unfortunate as it may be but none of us are the center of the universe. It can also be said that putting forth a handshake, especially in business, indicates you are putting out an offer of integrity on your part and by the other person accepting the handshake, they are agreeing to put forth the same. It's a mutual exchange that does not mean you agree with everything in life and does not have to mean you have some profound respect for each other either
