    Great video, lots of damm work! I have a 2012 x6 with the N55 engine, I am dreading the day I have to change the turbo when or if it fails.
    But I was wondering, wouldn't it have been a lot easier to drop the subframe and you would of had a lot more access to work on getting the turbo off and new one back in?

    • @turbospool

      Oh absolutely it would have been easier to drop the subframe! lol you are correct. I just did not have a crossbar to do that, and most BMW techs don't drop the subframe because although it makes turbo removal easier, it also adds more time to how long the car is in the stall (which since most work on flag hours, this would cost them money). So I sucked it up and did it this way. Which honestly would not have been so bad if I could go higher off the floor and had the "questionable support jack" placed properly under the engine, lol

      @@turbospool , did what ya had to do, got the job done and thats all that matters.
      last question, where do you find the torque specs for the turbo manifold bolt and associated bolts for teh cooler and oil lines?
      Did you prime the engine after you were done and how long did it take you to get the trubo out and new one in?

    • @turbospool

      @@dappa311 i got the specs from my friends at the dealer. You can also find them online if you have access to BMW TIS from what I understand.
      Engine was primed upon completion, prior to first start. 1 long crank, 2 short cranks.
      Can’t really say how long it took me as I broke it up over 2 weekends and a few hrs here and there after work. Plus I was filming! That alone adds like 30%-50% more time to ANY project lol

    Nice! For drag race which would you reccomend the f55 turbo or the ps750? Thanks btw

    • @turbospool

      too early to tell! There's many dynos of the PS750 already. But only a handful of the F55 (even less that are finished tuning). But from what has been found on the F55 so far is that it has more "room for growth" than the PS750. Just based on similar dynos the F55's wastegate is in the 70-80% area whereas the PS750 is maxed out at 100%. Just on that detail I would say the F55.

  • @richcortez2251

    Sid u get a custom tune for the turbo ? Im
    Running MHD stage 2 + e30 just checking if that is enough for that turbo ?

    • @turbospool

      Hey Rich? You absolutely want to have a custom tuner ready to go for when you go drive the car. It will start and idle no problem. But driving around it will be EXTREMELY easy to spool when the DME isn’t expecting it due to the design of the wastegate. So you want to get setup with David Shoup, Wedge, or Keahi Harris prior to install so you can at least have a base map that will allow you to drive it around safely while you tune it. This is not for the OTS tunes

  • @Tony-jv5pr

    Wondering how you lift the engine with all the wheels still installed. First time doing the job and looks like theres extra information missing I need to know.

    • @turbospool

      I mentioned that you have to support the engine, then unbolt the motor mounts (3 10mm bolts each), disconnect the charge pipe and boost pipe, and you can start lifting carefully

    • @Tony-jv5pr

      @@turbospool Ok I see, I thought it was just the top bolt that needs to be unscrewed not the whole engine mount.
      I thought it was only 1 screw on each side on the top where the support brackets to hold the engine. So, I need to also remove the 3 bolts on both engine mounts as well? thanks

  • @davewallace9048

    • @turbospool

    Does this turbo make more power than a pure stage 1?

    • @turbospool

      It is rated for more than the old PS1. Go to Shuenk’s site for more info or email the owner Doug. He’s very easy to work with

  • @bonestockn55

    Brother do you believe this can make the same power as a PS2?

    • @turbospool

      Check Shuenk’s site. I believe this turbo is rated for just below what the PS2 can flow at max. It spools earlier than the PS2 though due to the proper manifold design without the restrictive neck at the turbo inlet that the PS2 has

  • @eskania
    @eskania ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I install the Shuenk exhaust mainfold on the stock turbo.

    • @turbospool
      @turbospool  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A big part of the upgrade is the less restrictive manifold. But you could I guess if you know how to weld. The manifold is one piece with the turbine housing (both on the stock and in the N55+). So you’d have to buy it, cut both turbines off the manifolds, then weld the upgraded turbine on to your stocker.
      Shuenk BACK IN THE DAY used to do “super cores”, which you could bolt into the stock turbine housing. But I’m not sure if they still make it since the N55+ came out. You’d have to check their site
