A Great Song For Practicing LOTS of Jazz Chords!

- Hi everyone, here's my take on the Bossa Nova and Jazz standard tune 'One Note Samba' composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim. This isn't the original key in which it was composed but I once played this in Gb for a singer and I've gotten used to playing it there on guitar! Some aspects of this arrangement were definitely inspired by Stacey Kent's version of this performed in Lisbon in 2013.
This song is great for practicing a lot of Jazz chords as well as taking on a solo section too. The way I'm playing the chords is a mix of either playing the whole chord together or quickly breaking the chord up into quavers starting with the bass note; I'm also putting in closed hand hits on the strings on beats 2 and 4 on most bars throughout the sequence.

A song like this just proves how much MPB (Brazilian popular music) has jazz influence, most of the details fit perfectly
That was spicy 🔥 how the heck do people memorize all those weird shapes 😂 its like whatever your hand touches is the right chord, its like magic
Thank you! It's definitely just putting in the time - in the same way that an open C chord eventually becomes automatic, a C7#11 chord can also eventually become second nature!
this is great, thank you
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
@@daveshannonguitaracademy also this the _almost_ the lick "jumpscare" at 1:14 ! was not expecting that 😅
Haha yes almost! 😂
Oh that looks like a G5422TG. I am still thinking about getting one. Can’t really decide if I want to get the white or red one though. Cheers!
Oh and of course nice video :D I really like the Quincy Jones version of that tune.
That's right, it's my "poor man's white falcon" haha. Looks great in red too, let me know which you go for!
Good call, the Quincy Jones version is super cool 😎
