Alex, SUPER COOL! I live in Lovelock and for the past 3 years I have explored many areas on my own. I found the caves you were at just driving and walking around that area. You would be shocked at finds I've made there. Tons of Petroglyphs in numerous areas in the foothills. I have discovered WAGON TRAIN RUTS just below the site where you were at. There are 100's of wagon parts and lots of bones from Mules, Horses and even, OXEN! Great area to explore. There is a treasure every where I go! Thank you for your lessons on these wonderful finds!

I visited the Lovelock caves seven years ago more interested in the two giant red headed people buried in the cave in a boat discovered by a farmer digging the bat guerono out of the ground.A local native took me to the petroglyph, s down the road.Pretty neat! I drove up the Hwy#80 east to the next town ( Wenamucca)to the museum where renements of giant are located but it was closed! Bummer! I was interested in the giant story at Lovelick cave because while hunting in the Sierra, s I ran into sasquatchh a few times, thus North America, s giants....yes the bigfoot/squatch are giants!
    Thank you for the video!
The next valley south was another ancient lake and more shelter/caves....very interesting! Yes....have to ask the right local native to show you these areas..you have to be at the right place at the right time...lol!

Thanks for the kind words. In the area of Leonards and Lovelock cave there was the legend of tall men (7+ feet) who had a red hair and were cannibals. The local Paiutes called them the Si-Te-Cah. Interesting stuff. Also, I think some of the symbols on Leonard's Cave also referes to the Lovelock Cave. Also, one of the things about symbols is that many cultures had the same symbols with different meanings. I just saw an Egyptian statue in a tomb exhibit that has swastika symbols around its neck.

I find this site very intriguing.
I believe some day, somewhere, we will uncover the Gobekli Tepe of the west coast.
It would be easy to hide a cave entrance. Think how many undiscovered caves there must be.

Looking at the surface, it seems that the concrete truck has washed away the failed work with the wrong mixing ratio. And this is concrete with a lack of moisture.
Crushed stones (pebbles) seem to be hidden in the surface of the small ridges.

Great video, my friend. I was just in the Lovelock area about 10 days ago. We finally had a chance to hike the "Nature Trail" and it included exploring the caves and circumnavigation of the cave area on a stormy thunderstorm threatening day. We missed this cave , because i forgot to refer to your channel and discover the Leonard's cave petroglyphs. I guess our next trip i will have to get back to these caves. By the way , the Indian hunting tool is pronounced (at-la-tyl) Atlatyl....keep up the good work. I'm reviewing your video 7 years late..

Alex, what a joy to watch your video. I travel to Lovelock many times each year and stay at the Cadillac Inn. The inn keeper there named Larry has showed me many things in and around Lovelock. He's "one of those people" you mentioned in the video with a wealth of knowledge. He also happens to be bit of an historian with regards to the Chinese in the area who worked building the transcontinental railroad and keeps a small museum next to their hotel. A contingent from China just filmed a 3 part documentary about the role of the Chinese in building the railroad and Larry was honored for his input at the premier of the film in LA just a couple weeks ago. Thanks for sharing your film and doing such a wonderful job explaining it!

+folmonty Thanks for watching. When I was in Lovelock I first went to the small town museum which is well worth the visit. From there I went to an antique shop and spoke with an elderly lady who directed me to Larry. And he was the one who gave me directions to Leonard's Cave. Recently, I visited another site in Nevada which contains North America's oldest petroglyphs. This is the TH-cam link th-cam.com/video/lsXwSe4oEOA/w-d-xo.html .........alex

What is 1st symbol supposed to be? The comb appears in Moab and I think it refers to 2 magnetic poles. I heard about secret caves from men now dead in Ca. and Co. ; never got to explore them. I think I also know where to get into underground river system in S.Nevada, forged thanks to a crack made during a superdome collapse. Great video thanks.

Compare the recently dated Pyramid lakes Petroglyphs( 14,800) to Geneveive Von Peltzingers thesis on the ancient Paleolithic writing in French caves. Study the PRE-CLOVIS,their stone tool bi-facing technology(over shot flaking), their rock art, and compare it to the Solutreans. The Si-Te- Cah, first entered off shore from Chesapeak bay, colonized the east coast somewhat, and followed the mega fauna west, and then North to Alaska. The Cinmar bi-faced tool dredged up with a Mastadon 60 miles offshore from Virginia dates 22,760 years old in 1970? Some early tools in Deleware, Maryland Virginia are made from French flint. And the early remains? Kennewick man, spirit cave man, windover bog bodies, penon woman,Anzick baby? Iberia before Siberia.

Thats very interesting I love this kind of adventure. I drove all the way from Las Vegas to explore the Lovelock caves and was pretty disappointed. It was a massive cave but the only excitement I got was from looking at the burn marks on the roof of the cave. Me and my friend explored around the area and found some semi interesting things but nothing we were looking for. Now I want to tackle this cave

When I lived in Fallon Nevada I would take the kids out to the desert and sometimes we would find some fantastic petroglyphs painted ones too. But with the tufa hanging down like it does in some of the caves I would have to watch my head or I would get the Dickens knocked out of me.

"How do I know? Because the rocks speak to me" Beautifully said! You're channel is my favorite petroglyph channel by far! I really appreciate, the love and respect you demonstratei for such places. I have learned so much from your videos. I live near the Petroglyphs in Albuquerque , and hike the 17 miles of artistically marked rock tirelessly.. I have found many forgotten petroglyphs, that very few people have seen.. I have often wondered your opinion on some of the more unique images that I have come across.. Moreover I often find images of what looks to be exotic animals from over seas; Such as, Kangaroos, elephants, monkeys, and even a rhinoceros. If you ever travel my way, I would be thrilled to show you some of the secret treasures of the area, and hear your thoughts.. Thank you for such a worthwhile educational channe!l

Debbie, thanks for watching the series and your question. At Leonard's Cave what we observe are petroglyphs. Essentially, petroglyph are images carved into the stone by pecking, abrading, or incising into the stone. When we see ancient "painted" images they are called Pictographs...............alex

You missed way more glyphs than you found. There are many faces carved into the site with far more detailed and complex art. Some appear to be more mesoamerican looking. Some of the face glyphs don't appear to be human as we would think. These are far fainter than the ones shown, and possibly much older. Some of these may be late paleolithic or early desert archaic.

Some Native Americans report they have knowledge of the meaning of several several symbols. A great read is a book by LeVan Martiheau titled, "The Rocks Begin To Speak". Thanks for the pronunciation as I seem to always have a problem with that word. I think I was trying to say that since the bow and arrow was introduced intot North America around 1,500 years ago that the symbol could relate to the potential age of the petroglyph. Thanks for the input....it is all good...alex

I visited Lovelock cave last week-it was great! I drove my Saturn, and the road was in great condition. After a bit of trial and error, I found Leonard's Cave, too. As you mentioned, I did have to hike a bit to get there, but what a reward! It is a very special place-I spent a couple of hours there exploring and just sitting, trying to imagine what it was like for the people who lived there when the area was a lush inland sea and marsh. Thanks for posting your videos!

Archaeologists all assumed that climate change was externally given. I, on the other hand, believe that human activities, especially agricultural activities, have transformed the landscape, destroyed vegetation, and hence changed climate! Arizona was initially a piece of fertile land full of vegetation. When there was vegetation, the area was much more humid and therefore had more precipitation. Destruction of land and vegetation results in a vicious cycle of reduced rainfall and even less vegetation.

    • @bc4458
      @bc4458 6 ปีที่แล้ว

They had recently proven after 40 years of experimentation that man has indeed ruined the land not by agriculture, but by lack of grazing animals. we have not only stopped mass herding, but also have killed off most large grazing animals like the American Bison etc. In Arizona one of their tests they tried bringing goats in the hundreds to a baron dry cracked earth property, 15 years later they had green grass, shrubs, and trees popping up all over.

Those glyphs are Trauma scribblings. The kind of scratches on the walls of the condemned cell. All those images exist here in Britain too. I see those glyphs in the sky most every day since 1989 as whispy clouds, looming larger day by day. They cover the whole sky now. Thousands have noticed and film them as vlog everyday, twice a day. Those lines were in the sky before. The same symbols exist Everywhere around the world. Belief is ever the mirage. Facts have no time for belief. None of us have time. The mesolithic peoples who left the glyphs here. Are long extincted by cataclysm.

You bet, and I am sure it was fun, I miss it out west so bad it's hard to take, but I love this place mainly because lake superior, the ojibway, or chippewa dwelled here, pardon the spelling I cant waste time, I tried sending a a message earlier and the computer jumped off the page, I guess thats what 60 dollars gets you... I really want to show you images of that rock, let me know if that is possible, I can send a little video or images or images of the angles with my friends iphone, I have no phone, don't go on social media other than this. about 25 years ago I was camping at that spot where they filmed the movie Tremors with Kevin Bacon lol I am bad with dates, lets just call it the past, the rock is driving me mad holding it trying to figure it out. I bet your opinion would ease the curious happy discomfort, lol sorry my friend. let me know. I watch other vids to feel like I am out west by WonderHussy, she does a great job, you and her take me out west. thanks.

Wow, we all got to experience it together. You may want to stop moving the camera around so much because it's hard for us to see what you're trying to show us. Whenever you show a rock formation we can't fix our eyes on what you're trying to show us because you keep moving the camera back and forth because you're so excited to share something with us.
Other than that, thanks very much for showing us something that 98% of us will never be able to see in person. Like you said, life was in abundance when the water Level was much higher. Can you imagine all of the trees, swamp grass, birds flying around, various animals all over the place and, of course, all the people living there with all the fish and animals to feed themselves with?
Except for the 8 foot tall creatures capturing the people that live there and eating them, it must have been a real paradise.

Thanks for watching the series. During my trek I did not see any rattlesnakes. I can't recall why I was time limited. Perhaps, the time of day or that I was also going to trek to Lovelock Cave which was several miles West of Leonard's Cave.........alex

if life was so abundant, why did they(red haired giants) resort to cannabalism?, eating the indians that resorted in thier death? assuming that the lovelock cave
giants were here also here in leonards cave

I love watching your video's and have been to some of the sites. I don't think the petrogylphs are abstract art. I bet they are more of a hieroglyphs. Not a writing system, but symbols the ancients in the great basin knew exactly what they meant. Why else would the same symbols be at all these sites over the western united states if they did not have some meaning.

    • @storiesbyalex

Thanks for watching and your comment. Leonard's rock shelter and Lovelock cave are both located on the same ridge and are neighbors to each other. Although radiocarbon dates are changing due to recent studies basketry twine from Lovelock Cave is at 10,000+ years old, which is the same approximate date for an object found at Leonard's...........alex
