Ahhh, I love the symbolism so much! I'm not sure if this was the creator's intent, but that coral seems to be an allegory for the Fruit of Life, which is really neat! Also, the fact that the fish down here can't tell the difference between light and dark, kind of like how the Knowledge of the Tree of Good and Evil made humanity be able to tell them apart in a more metaphorical sense-- In this narritive, that could be literal! Another thing that struck me was how the main character describes feeling like they were once part of something bigger, like they'd been ripped out and left to float: almost like a fetus, really. Wouldn't be too far of a stretch considering the title of the game, and its "return to the womb" narritive. The yearning for a simpler, safer time. This is a really, really interesting take on Christian theology, and I hope to see more like it. But, yeah. This is really, really neat and I love it
This could easily be turned into a much bigger game. Hell, I'd love it even if it was just more stuff to read. The developer has some really cool ideas, but ends them too quickly. Dude needs to make a full game sometime, I think it'd do pretty well.
So I'm gonna go ahead and assume the whole "Ate of the Forbidden Fruit" was.. actually the coral? Probably? Cause it's mentioned that "Their ancestors" ate forbidden fruit. And, since the origin is on the seabed.. I just used these two sentences to repeat myself.
The coral seems to actually be the Fruit of Life, as the deathless fishes are reported to have nearly no cell degradation, and a lot of coral in the stomach.
From what I see, the coral IS god. The coral has neurons, which may very well be far powerful than a human brain, mentioned to be "hyper capable of generating a consciousness field". Judging by the previous game of Discover My Body, this game might be in the same universe, the first fish being subject to "laser vivisection", a technology we do not have at the moment. Discover my Body is set in the future, and the fungus is mentioned to have "crystalline, latticelike psychic receptors", confirming the existence of psychic abilities in certain species. The protag at the end probably was subject to mutation by "god" 's psychic abilities, presumably the generated "consciousness field" and became an aquatic protohuman, the original "sons of adam".
@@theloweffortchannel7211 And let's not forget that in this game, the protagonist mentions "feeling cut off from a greater whole" via the original sin and Discover My Body is all about connecting to a collective consciousness of all of humanity.
I can never get enough of my man's horror games, they are so incredibly characteristic, and extremely creati e with their concepts, something i havent even seen before, it is all so fascinating ^ ^
The concept is Lovecraftian horror, the fear of the unknown, yet our curiosity, our drive to gain knowledge and as the unknown becomes the known, the human mind breaks and shatters at the mere sight of the infinite, indifference of all powerful, and mostly malevolent being beyond human understanding, wholly alien to us. As we slowly descend into madness as we fail to make sense of it.
If you like reading, The Deep by Nick Cutter might fill your itch for deep sea body horror. It’s pretty much the same kind of mind fuck although it lacks the religious overtones.
The concepts this developer creates are way to good to be used on such a short experience. Discover My Body was a very memorable experience as was Water Womb World. Somebody needs to make a movie with a concept like this honestly. I can't wait to see more of what this developer creates. I just wish the games were way longer.
I Am, is the thought or rather, the belief that one thinks they think, they Are, they exist. They believe themselves to be in existence, therefore, They Are. I think, therefore, I Am.
I AM is one of God's names. When introducing Himself to Moses in that specific instance, he said "I AM who I AM." or in another translation "I WILL BE what I WILL BE." It's a title demonstrating his eternal existence. Plus an identifier, as all names are.
My thoughts on the plot. Introduction: The Son of Adam is a theist who believes both in god and science, and is obsessed with finding the supposed birthplace of humanity, the Gaspar Zone. In order to achieve this, he built a futuristic base on the oceanic floor to conduct his research. First trip: Here he finds that all lifeforms in the Gaspar Zone are obviously acuatic, made of stone or metal, very long-lived and have some form of blindness, all but the Adamite, an ancestor of humanity which seems to have eyes. This may or may not be related to his 5% of ancestral corruption, implying that seeing and thus evolving into a more complex creature is in some way straying from the path of God. He also found some scuba glasses, implying that he’s not the first on the Gaspar Zone. Second trip: Here he meets with the Golden Angel, who has disabled the Son of Adam’s lights, further proving that God and his affiliated entities dislike it and the concept of seeing. His warning is actually quite straightforward. Telling the Son of Adam that if he leaves now, he’ll continue to be a human, but if he stays in the Gaspar Zone, he’s going to have to join God. Our protagonist refuses to leave and continues his research. Third trip: Here we find out that all the fish in the Gaspar Zone appear to have eaten Red Coral, an organism of unknown properties. Apparently, it is covered in human neurons, create hive-minded individuals, crash the lab’s examination machine and create alucinations. Fourth trip: The lights are off again, sing of divine entities nearby. However, these angels are much more stranger than the last one. Yet despite their appearance, they seem able to talk. They drive the Son of Adam mad and force him to retreat to his lab. There he convinces himself to be hungry and join God. This is probably what the first angel was warning him about on the second trip. Fifth (and last) trip: The Son of Adam is suffering from the same traits as the Gaspar Zone’s lifeforms, being able to breath underwater, having black sockets for eyes and a rocky, red skin. He eventually starts eating a lot of Red Coral, which seems to attract the Red Angels from before. They reveal him their full body, ending on a red eye. Conclusion: Considering the hive-minded powers of the Red Coral, what the Golden Angel said and the scuba glasses, it’s safe to assume that the Son of Adam joined the Red Angel’s collective consciousness in order to be able to live forever in the Gaspar Zone. The Red Angel is probably a union of all the previous divers that went there. Now wether this is something good or bad for the protagonist is hard to determine, but I would say that it is indeed good as the purpose of Christian Religion is to unite with god, just like the Son of Adam did, even if by a very unorthodox method.
So my theory is that this game is an allegory for those who seek out the monastic tradition for the wrong reasons. Seeking union with god, however fueled by their own fantasies and ego. This is furthered by the whole mirror situation. Seeking out this selfish piousness attracted demons in the end.
My personal interpretation of the ending: The massive creature is NOT God, and the protag was simply tricked. Like Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, the protag ate the coral, which could have also been forbidden in some way. The angel was most likely a legit one trying to steer the protag away from this potentially "false" god, to no avail. It could also be that his mind was simply unstable and, being alone in the depths for too long, his sanity slipped and he went out into the water without his gear, dying shortly thereafter and the rest of the ordeal was simply a dying dream.
@@RealSelene It could be that the protagonist's consciousness was taken from his brain leaving his body. Then this false god took it and put it in a vessel for him to use then the protagonist used it to descend to hell?
@@RealSelene it's not just a "it's all a dream" theory it was implied he is starting to go insane and losing care with going in the water prepared. So at the end, is the protagonist returning to the “womb” or something? What is the thing at the end? Is it the womb of humanity, flesh for flesh? Damn what is this?
From what I understand, that glowing thing at the end is the 'womb' from which humanity and the angels were birthed aka 'God'. What it really is though is open to interpretation, it might be the sentient consciousness of the planet or an ancient extraterrestrial, anything goes.
While the games the developer makes are very clearly meant to be horrifying, they don't seem scary to me at all. The protagonists or focuses are men of science, well versed in the nature of minds and what will happen to them. They go out intentionally seeking some higher power or higher form of life, and know beforehand that they'll be irrevocably changed into some alien being. They can fully consent (and fully understand) with what happens, and agree to undergo the change. The net effect is comforting, strangely. It would be much more horrifying if the protagonists thought they knew what they were in for, started to object/run away when full realization hits them, and the thing they are changed into then enjoys the procedure, possibly to carry it out on unwilling others.
I agree. Both _Discover My Body_ and now _Water Womb World_ are strangely serene to me. It's not that I would voluntarily choose to join a psychic fungal gestalt consciousness, nor would I throw myself wholeheartedly into the deeps to become an ascendant/regressed perfect human, but I can certainly understand both characters in their choices to do so. They both make informed decisions, and are aware that they cannot go back once they have begun their journey. It is their wholehearted willingness to be transformed, transfigured, that is in itself comforting, I suppose.
I feel like the horror isn’t meant to come from them being forcibly changed like other body horror works might, but instead that they do willingly let it occur. Discover My Body showed a society that willingly gave up all functions and sentience in exchange for perceivably infinite pleasure as they lost their faith in the real world. This game twists the idea of divinity by portraying closeness to god as straying from science and order and returning to a primitive, impulsive state.
I disagree. What makes this great is that they're Lovecraftian culty characters, being fully aware of what will happen. Much better than if they were normal.
God bless this developer! All of his work of WWW and discover my body has a lot of potential. I’d want to see this in a short film. I’ve never had a game actually leave me thinking and feeling scared after playing it. God bless him!
Oh my GOD, SO COOL! Honestly this is incredibly amazing work and super beautifully freaky. This game creator astounds me with the work of the previous, and now this, some really amazing work with the atmosphere, story and art, all in a small game. Awesome video!
The sinful world of humanity seems like a lot more of an interesting and fullfilling place than the water womb world where there is no deep thought, no conflict, no pleasure, not even love is possible since there is no opposite to love. Just feeding on coral forever.
I think it is worth noting that most if not all of the 'biologically immortal' organisms we know of are aquatic, including types of coral and jellyfish.
i finally got around to playing this game last night. all was well and fine and i was streaming it to my partner because we both enjoy this style of horror. anyways, i got to the final "feed on coral" part, and right when the progress bar filled, all power to my house was cut for about a second total. it was more shocking than it was scary but man, what perfect timing lol
You know, just by looking at that screenshot I thought “hey, this reminds me of discover my body. Wonder how the full game’s going?” Then I read the full title... I can’t wait to watch this.
Now that is some freaky Lovecraftian sh*t...I could almost feel what he was feeling. Just like Shadow Over Innsmouth, he returns to man's birthplace in the sea...to dwell amongst wonder and glory forever...join with the Creator
This game is actually pretty deep (pun intended) and takes a cool spin on christianity. Also, with the coral, I can't help but notice how this feels like the classic "is the protagonist experiencing what they think they are, or is it some kind of chemical leak / radiation causing hallucinations?" question? Edit: grammar
I need more games like these. The mix of Religion and Deep sea horror. Our ignorance to the water womb from which we do not have much knowledge of just makes the whole idea of adding religious beliefs that we still dont fully comprehend work.

Third game will also need you to fetch 6 things and will end up with a jumpscare while blasting BFG Division in what will turn out to be the most elaborate Doom meme ever.
Question, besides lovecratian what else would this type of fantasy or horror be called? Something that interprets god as some "other worldly horrific being", something mysterious yet really eerie and forbidden, the kind of entity that when one of its followers witnesses its "greatness"..they become twisted and not human like anymore? "When you see god you will witness glory" type of spooky shit. What would that be called and where I can find out more about it? Instantly recognized it being from the creator of “discover my body”. Definitely left me with that “wtf” feeling just like with the first one.
That creature is inspired by magnapinna (bigfin squids) if anyone’s interested lol
Ah yes, the long bois of the squid universe
Holy shit they're horrifying
Wtf
@ETHAN SEBASTIAN LAYANA GAMARRA Nah, the one with the long tentacles as far as we know is an adult. We've never collected adult specimens though, just seen them in the wild. The larva have short tentacles and all the genus was known from until we saw mr dangly. Keep in mind we just assume that the long tentacled thing is the adult of Magnapinna, it could be a knew species of Magnapinna, or it could be a related squid.
I've known about magnapinnas for a while, they are interesting but they also REALLY freak me out
love the lack of explicit horror in these games. its scary, yes, but the characters treat the situations as normal or wonderful rather than rightfully terrifying. its not traditional and i love it
Funny how the angels here are depicted as other worldly beings. I would instantly shit my pants if I met those kind of angels in real life.
Same, if I was in protags shoes, the angel would have stopped at some point in his monologue to tell me to stop screaming. Then I would have high tailed it out of there because nope nope nope.
@@gracekelley2907 hence the phrase, "do not be afraid"
@@bosselotiscanon lol, yeah. If angels look more like monsters than pretty people in robes, I totally get why they would start by saying that.
@@gracekelley2907 so I hear they were described as incredibly monstrous and horrifying, and would say that exactly because of their alarming presence
@@gracekelley2907 Actually, In the Old Testament it was depicted that angels actually looked like the pure version of Lovecraftian creatures. So what he said about angels looking like other world beings were actually biblically true.

You atheist

Excuse me i mean its impossible to see god until death since we cannot see him but he can see us all
@ETHAN SEBASTIAN LAYANA GAMARRA Yes.
Oh no, I think I recognise the art style
Haha, yeah it's from Yames, the creator of Discover My Body and Lips Like Velum :)
oh no...
I noticed it too 😱
Foreshadowing
Oh, yes…
Is this the same developer who made a game about performing a surgery on a guy and watch the subject slowly morph into another entity?
Yea same dude
Yup that’s the person
I mean... that's what the title of the video says.
Yep he made the game were a guy morphed himself into a pickle Spookiest shit I've ever seen
Raihand Noeramrin Whats that game called?
The coral is the fruit of life, considering the red colored immortal things that seem to suffer ego death
@@theloweffortchannel7211 nah,the game dev said he didn't make it in the same universe, but your theories are so damn cool °
Well this pisses me off... Such a beautiful game and great at immersion but so short. This MUST be made into a full length
Yames is making a full length sequel to Discover My Body. I’m both excited and and terrified to play it.
@@mightymuso discover my body was good but I see far more potential in this. Just my opinion. This one is absolutely stunning to me.
@@TheDashingDevils How much more could you add to it, though? Maybe it's better it was kept short and sweet in order to empathize the game's message.

The concepts this developer creates are way to good to be used on such a short experience. Discover My Body was a very memorable experience as was Water Womb World. Somebody needs to make a movie with a concept like this honestly. I can't wait to see more of what this developer creates. I just wish the games were way longer.
i never knew i needed abrahamic lore mixed with a lovecraft deep one cult
Very interesting concept... and terrifying.
The emphasis placed on "I AM" in the Bible was probably the inspiration for this horror.
What does it actually mean to be, "I AM"?
Darkseid is
check out parmenides's ontology
I Am, is the thought or rather, the belief that one thinks they think, they Are, they exist.
They believe themselves to be in existence, therefore, They Are.
I think, therefore, I Am.
I AM is one of God's names. When introducing Himself to Moses in that specific instance, he said "I AM who I AM." or in another translation "I WILL BE what I WILL BE." It's a title demonstrating his eternal existence. Plus an identifier, as all names are.
I Am that I Am.
I've gone down a rabbit hole with this dev's work. It reminds me of the early newgrounds days of horror games, but with an actual budget and quality.
My thoughts on the plot.
Introduction:
The Son of Adam is a theist who believes both in god and science, and is obsessed with finding the supposed birthplace of humanity, the Gaspar Zone. In order to achieve this, he built a futuristic base on the oceanic floor to conduct his research.
First trip:
Here he finds that all lifeforms in the Gaspar Zone are obviously acuatic, made of stone or metal, very long-lived and have some form of blindness, all but the Adamite, an ancestor of humanity which seems to have eyes. This may or may not be related to his 5% of ancestral corruption, implying that seeing and thus evolving into a more complex creature is in some way straying from the path of God. He also found some scuba glasses, implying that he’s not the first on the Gaspar Zone.
Second trip:
Here he meets with the Golden Angel, who has disabled the Son of Adam’s lights, further proving that God and his affiliated entities dislike it and the concept of seeing. His warning is actually quite straightforward. Telling the Son of Adam that if he leaves now, he’ll continue to be a human, but if he stays in the Gaspar Zone, he’s going to have to join God. Our protagonist refuses to leave and continues his research.
Third trip:
Here we find out that all the fish in the Gaspar Zone appear to have eaten Red Coral, an organism of unknown properties. Apparently, it is covered in human neurons, create hive-minded individuals, crash the lab’s examination machine and create alucinations.
Fourth trip:
The lights are off again, sing of divine entities nearby. However, these angels are much more stranger than the last one. Yet despite their appearance, they seem able to talk. They drive the Son of Adam mad and force him to retreat to his lab. There he convinces himself to be hungry and join God. This is probably what the first angel was warning him about on the second trip.
Fifth (and last) trip:
The Son of Adam is suffering from the same traits as the Gaspar Zone’s lifeforms, being able to breath underwater, having black sockets for eyes and a rocky, red skin. He eventually starts eating a lot of Red Coral, which seems to attract the Red Angels from before. They reveal him their full body, ending on a red eye.
Conclusion:
Considering the hive-minded powers of the Red Coral, what the Golden Angel said and the scuba glasses, it’s safe to assume that the Son of Adam joined the Red Angel’s collective consciousness in order to be able to live forever in the Gaspar Zone. The Red Angel is probably a union of all the previous divers that went there. Now wether this is something good or bad for the protagonist is hard to determine, but I would say that it is indeed good as the purpose of Christian Religion is to unite with god, just like the Son of Adam did, even if by a very unorthodox method.
Wow cool
Please not "it was all a dream" that's the dumbest shit
@@RealSelene It could be that the protagonist's consciousness was taken from his brain leaving his body. Then this false god took it and put it in a vessel for him to use then the protagonist used it to descend to hell?
@@RealSelene he didnt say it was all a dream, he meant the last few bits, as if the false god was tricking him
@@RealSelene it's not just a "it's all a dream" theory it was implied he is starting to go insane and losing care with going in the water prepared. First him forgeting to bring a light and second him saying "I feel as If I barely even need this oxygen underwater anymore" so hia theory of him going underwater without an equipment and him "meeting god" being a dying dream can be valid.
I'm always conflicted whether to watch your new videos or stop them and play the game for myself. It's a tough call every time
Yeah! Same same
i believe that this guy was very close to death and during research he started to hallucinate and his imagination made the passing out and dissolving consciousness feel something he actually desired

Is it wrong I find it a lot cooler than the “traditional” depiction of God
Yames, you absolute madman. I'm absolutely hooked on these games, from the stylistic choices to the topics themselves! gonna be thinkin about this for days to come yet again
it's very refreshing to see one of these indie games so excellently written
So at the end, is the protagonist returning to the “womb” or something?
What is the thing at the end? Is it the womb of humanity, flesh for flesh? Damn what is this?
From what I understand, that glowing thing at the end is the 'womb' from which humanity and the angels were birthed aka 'God'. What it really is though is open to interpretation, it might be the sentient consciousness of the planet or an ancient extraterrestrial, anything goes.
Very lovecraftian, and the atmosphere is very heavy. I really enjoyed it.
In my opinion it is scarier the way it is. Knowing full well what you set out to find is, and embrace it. Just like in discover my body
@@LordVader1094 Agreed. This one [in contrast to Discover My Body] seemed explicitly like a Lovecraft character.

This seems exclusively like a good ending. The guy literally returns to the garden of eden.
The sinful world of humanity seems like a lot more of an interesting and fullfilling place than the water womb world where there is no deep thought, no conflict, no pleasure, not even love is possible since there is no opposite to love. Just feeding on coral forever.

This game is actually pretty deep (pun intended) and takes a cool spin on christianity. Also, with the coral, I can't help but notice how this feels like the classic "is the protagonist experiencing what they think they are, or is it some kind of chemical leak / radiation causing hallucinations?" question?
Edit: grammar
wow that was atmospheric and spooky as hell
The sound design is just incredible
I need more games like these. The mix of Religion and Deep sea horror. Our ignorance to the water womb from which we do not have much knowledge of just makes the whole idea of adding religious beliefs that we still dont fully comprehend work.
