Fun fact: If you sculpt in multiple views while animation playback (spacebar) is playing, all viewports update in realtime even before you commit a sculpt / brush stroke. Otherwise you won't see the other views update until after you have committed.
Not sure about you but my GPU fans will start spilling fire 😲😲
That's so cool I wish it was known more
this is a tip i didnt know i needed until right now lol
If only blender can be used in VR mode too ..
I hope they add it , making animation, sculpting will be a lot easier 🤣
there are addons that implement VR into blender. but they are not that good generally
Forget it for now, its fantastic to move around a 3d world in blener, but thats about all I can get it to do for now, ill try digging a bit deeper, but for the moment its not looking good, lets hope, ill drop blender an email, see if I get a reply. th-cam.com/video/yKNHugSjuVY/w-d-xo.html its not totally useless, but as for sculpting in VR, I havent found anyting yet.
There are so few people using a VR set, is it really labour effective to developp such a tool? But if the 3D artist community is asking for it, I think and hope blender will give such a tool in the futur.
But that will require to have an interface redesign (or a completely independant UI)
@@patataboy Depends on how much work it would actually take to implement VR. But yeah, most likely there are not enough people out here waiting for it.
@@neofromthewarnerbrothersic145 In the meantime I got myself a quest3 and the app ... and good lord, it changes the modelling so much. Everyting makes sense. People into modelling have to try this kind of product
Really glad to see sculpters at your tier finally catch onto VR and sculpting! It's been decent since medium and it's only gotten more refined. The crazy thing is that over time mouse and keyboard start to feel archaic as peripherals when you get reallllllllllllllllly familiar with these tools. You just gotta learn what these softwares let you do and what they can't do (which is a lot), but when you finally see it you can't go back. There is a really huge discussion to be had and considering how big you are Danny I'm glad to see you getting the ball rolling on these pipelines.
I'm REALLY hope they make this for Apple Vision Pro. How amazing would that be to just have your sculpt sitting in the real world and worked with your hands.
i feel this!
i used it for work a few weeks back and i was so excited!
I know it's an ad, but thank you! I'm so happy this showed up in my feed, or I never would have learned about it. Searching for vr sculpting just turns up ancient outdated articles. I feel like the tools have probably come really far in the last two years, and there's just no way to find out. Supposedly there's even Blender VR sculpting, but I can't find any info about it except for a defunct project for an ancient version.
Your work translates so well in VR 👏 👏
Cant wait to see more!!
I utilized this tool to craft a lampshade tailored for my office space. Leveraging mixed reality, I seamlessly overlaid the design onto the physical environment, envisioning its appearance within my workspace. Subsequently, I transferred the model to my slicing software and proceeded to 3D print it.
You should try the hard surface stuff in Gravity Sketch one day if you think there's value in VR. It's very good with hard surface stuff , I mean if Nissan and Ford are backing it.
This is brilliant. The app looks great and your video really demonstrates how a power user would use it!
I just bit the bullet and got a VR headset because of this video and showing off the sculpting program. I have plans to do a comic and rather than all hand drawn (because the comic is way to big to draw it) i plan on sculpting characters, turni g them into 3d avatars then posing them out with eachother for the comic images. Time to sculpt like 180 characters. And 20 years of age for 90 or so of them
Anyone who has never tried VR just can't grasp how much of a difference it makes in terms of 3d, spatial awareness, and such. It's just somethign you have to experience for most people.
0:08 "back in 20 FARTING" 😂
glad ya showed us how it all worked and ran through the options, but it does seem like you did most of the work in blender.
The sculpting work was done using shapelab. Shapelab is specifically a sculpting tool, unlike blender.
Nice demo! You should check out Gio Nakpil's method of VR sculpting if you haven't already. The way he works with shapes to form object might help with making stuff like the accessories :) Works great in Modeler for sure... I need to give Shapelab another shot!
I tried it, and the dealbreaker for me is the lack of any form of feedback.
You can tell when you touch your tablet, you can tell when you touch real clay, but when sculpting in VR you have 0 way of telling where you are in relation to the mesh without looking directly at your hands.
It may seem like a small thing but it slows you down by by few times. But i really love the idea, if the aps were better i would probably swallow the extra time to sculpt in return for depth perception but as it is i dropped it on the first professional project i was doing as i wasnt doing enough progress.
Its an interesting alternative, but no replacement for using a tablet. Also man, even quest 3 is extremely uncomfortable for longer than few hours on both your eyes and your face. Maybe in the future when they get really small it will become a thing for modeling.
I was worried about this too but it really didn't take long to get past that. Would definitely recommend sticking with it a little longer!
@@DannyMac3d
Yeah im thinking about giving it another go.
One thing that does make it problematic is that i need google opened on side 24/7 to look up references, i prefer looking up what i need rather than building giant files in pure ref or spending plenty of time looking on refs, i want to get a 3d sketch going right away.
When using VR for long time you can estimate pretty accurate where your hands are. Some even can have ghost touch feeling when they touch something in VR (Basically you feel what you see).
Also in shapelab that brush falloff is from radius so you can start moving stuff before touching model.
I have been using VR from 2016 and I'm jealous of those who have ghost touch.
@@LimbaZero
Sound made up lol.
@@googleslocik Nah, it's a real phenomenon. Not everyone feels it the same, some can train to develop it over time, some can't feel it at all; but some people got it so intensely real that in social apps and such they gotta worry about griefers sexually molesting them (many such apps actually got things like proximity filters/shields to avoid that), it can actually cause some level of psychological harm (I can't really speak of how serious that harm really is because I'm not a trained psychologist, and for me, having VR things go thru my body at most feels like a sorta warm electric feeling, so for me such experiences would be like if someone shone a warm spotlight with maybe some fluctuations of static electricity (sorta like if you have a hairy arm and bring it near an OLD CRT and switch it on or off), and if anything went into any "nono" places for me it would just be a source of laughter).
If you're interested in learning more the VR-centric youtuber Phia has done a couple episodes of her "The VR Show" about the topic (I don't feel like looking up her exact channel name, but this should be enough info for a search, "Phia", "VR Show", "Phantom Touch"; something like that should get you there.
pretty sweet how you are making cool sculpts on VR to me it has proven difficult to do things with enough precision. please post more content doing this and if you can try substance modeller that would be cool to see your opinion on it, maybe even a comparison!
If you make the object really big you get a lot of precision! :)
For me, I like it to get most of the early work done, the big thing for me is being able to push and pull the mesh geometry, which was always my issue on a screen, having to adjust the view angle and mess with the geometry, only to move the view and see it screwed up and had to tweak it redo it. I don't think this program is perfect for ending details yet, but i think it certainly streamlines the beginning phase of sculpting, especially for those who sculpt in real life easier than on a screen.
Oh shit! I have been dreaming about this!
Obviously this is a much higher level of quality but i love to use 3D Sculptor and 3D Painter on my PS4 VR. My mind also was blown away how cool and personal it is when you work on something. Overall my biggest VR shock was with Resident Evil - 7 VR, absolute game changer. Awesome. Still my most favourite VR game.
Danny Mac: Future Man 😂 Well done, this is an interesting method of sculpting! Arms have got to be dead tired after a while haha
Hello mate! Surpringly not to be honest, not something I noticed. I did do most of it sat down though, the video is all lies 😅
I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN! 🤣 Cheers man!
What's going on Danny. I saw your video and thought I'd drop in and see what you're up to. I haven't tried this one but I tried Gravity Sketch. I like how this one seems to be more based around Zbrush and Blender though since a lot of us are more familiar with those. I'll have to give it a go. What would be really nice (and it may do this already) would be a quick menu on the drawing hand for switching brushes. Aside from that the dynamic topo is really cool and it has me pretty excited to try it out. Have a good one and I'll catch up with out on your next live stream.
They snuk in account registration and a launcher, so feels only like a question of time until they sneak in subscriptions as well. I think I’d rather wait for Freebird XR.
This seems a lot more approachable than blender so I'll give it a shot! I'll still need blender eventually since I want to learn to make VRChat avatars but this might make for a good stepping stone.
I don't really like dynamic topology, either, however, it IS really good for one thing and that's maintaining performance when you're hitting a limit to what your computer can handle. Even in Zbrush which can handle a lot of resolution, I do eventually hit a wall with polycount. Dynamesh allows me to paint a region of higher resolution where I need it and lower resolution where I don't. Sometimes, I'll turn it on just to do this kinda thing and then turn it off after I'm satisfied with the resolution.
Your A LEGEND
Cool.. thanks for showing this. I love my sculpting too mainly in zbrush, but with my diabetes typ1 everything is becoming harder and more difficult. Is this way of sculpting also like its cost you a lot of energy on your body? like how long can you this... like 20-30 min? just wondering if there's like stress level on your body.
I use nomad sculpt on iPad and when I want multiple viewports I’ll instance the object and and position the orientation to my liking. When I don’t need it I hide it
it'd be nice if they made it possible to pin these menus. The one thing I've hated about any of the VR apps I've used in the last 4 years is navigating the menus, it really is a huge time hog to do that over and over and very much a fatigue.
The thing that will instantly hold me back from any software as of today is subscription only. Even if it's as low as shapelab is. But any software that I cannot use in any way after I stop paying is mostly a no go for me.
Also that I don't have a VR headset. That is also kind of a decisive factor against it. :P
Having a quick look at the links in the description, it doesn't look like it's a subscription based software, but, yeah that would be an instant no for me if it is a Subscription.
The Quest 2 is very cheap atm
Perpetual license is available on both Meta store and Steam. ;)
i also had a look at the website and indeed it is only offered there as a subscription. however on steam it seems to be a one time purchase.
The far best option is Oculus "Medium" (free use)
Sadly Adobe bought it and it stopped from developing.
Now Adobe is publishing it under a different name (can't remember) with some more options but very pricy.
But in medium you have Subdivision levels.
And yes, it is very funny to work in VR.
But if you get to a very detailed level...it kinda sucks and you have to return to Blender eg thinking "So sad, but it's too shaky for that"
You simply cannot rest your palms - which is good for blockouts, but bad for precision...
adobe modeler's was pretty good the last time I used it, they took out the layers menu
@Weredah modeler is again free in public beta. you just need a free creative cloud account and then you can install the beta.
Cool thing about Shapelab vs medium or modeler is that you can sculpt Mesh or Voxel. Even Open Mesh..
As someone who wants to get into 3d model making/3d sculpturing, but has never tried to sculpt a 3d model, and has very limited 3d model making experience (I've played around a bit but not really followed any guides/tutorials). Would you recommend diving into to Shapelab or learning with Blender?
I've wanted a VR 3d model program that feels natural and Shapelab looks like what I've been wanting, but I'm basically learning from the ground up, so would learning through Blender do a better job at reinforcing good practices, or will Shapelab allow me to guide the model without forcing my intent through the UI/mouse and Keyboard?
Thanks
I would recommend learning both. There is a lot of overlap in how the sculpting tools work anyway so it's not really a one or the other situation imo 🙂
How do you feel it compares to other vr sculpting apps, like the free ones? Also for a beginner perspective
So, I've been using Medium for a number of years, but there's no wireframe mode to inspect the geometry in app and when I export the files to Blender it appears to be using triangles and it just doesn't seem to have that level of precision which ShapeLab does now (last time I checked it it was still in Beta I think and I wasn't convinced to switch). What I'm seeing here with your workflow, retopo your sculpts in Blender then importing them back into Shapelab, this is not possible in Medium, it would destroy the topology and transform it all into triangles, so this is kind of the missing link for me right now, thanks for convincing me to make the switch!
FINALLY YOU FOUND THIS APP.
😂😂
@@DannyMac3d He didn't find this app. The company behind "LeoPoly" approached him and paid him to promote it. They have a history of harvesting users' data without permission or acknowledgment, which has damaged their reputation. Despite this, the software is quite entertaining to use, but the business practices behind the app are very concerning.
are you consider it better than adobes medium? did you find it solid?
@DannyMac3d what version would you say is the preferred or best the meta store one or the steam one. My main concern is how meta stops supporting headsets and blocking developers from supporting older tech. I have a quest 3 so its not an issue now just a down the line worry
So I see you’re using a Quest 3 connected wirelessly using SteamLink - did you get your copy of the app from Meta or Steam? I bought my copy from Meta, but iwhen it click on the link to install, my Quest doesn’t see the purchase. How did you set yours up?
what would be amazing is if you could turn this into a file straight from the game, put it on a 3d printer, and print it to bring it in the real world.
is there a way to rig it and then animating it ?
can u make a tutorial ?
It looks like a nice tool, but Blender and Nomad sculpt are not subscription based. That's a deal breaker to me, better options with no subscription.
It's all fun until you realize there is no custom stamp functionality. Meaning you can't make something and then use it as a brush (which you can do in e.g. Adobe Medium which is a FREE APP).
It's been 6 years since they first stated that it's a planned feature, and kept saying it again and again. But when asked for an ETA they keep quiet.
One question, Danny. I should have checked better, but is there any content in your patreon explaining you texturing and look development process for character?
Not yet, but there will be. I do have a module painting the head in my stylized head course on gumroad :)
Well there is spiral brush in zbrush which does the similar thing u said it can't do
looks very nice. Unfortunately, I haven’t mastered even the simplest sculpting skills, and now VR is breathing down my neck
Do you need a pc for this? Can I just get it on my quest? THanks
I would trade both my feet to be able to sculpt like that with my hands. sure do wish I had even a little bit of artistic talent.
I want that as an avatar !!!
I would love to use this if I didn't get server motion sickness with vr. I kinda got a headache just watching this video sadly.
Do you have to rotate the object with the controller or can you just keep it in place and walk around it yourself?
Either :)
Using wifi instead of a wire is actually better than a cord if your computer and router both support wifi 6E
не думал свои знания применить для обучения ИИ что бы на твоих знаниях ИИ обучился создавать такие прекрасные проекты !?
Will multiple languages be added in the future?
I hope someday they can make picture to model ai. Where you just draw a picture, and ai will transform it to a 3d model lol. I think it's doable. Only thing left to do is tweaking and adjustments and fine tuning.
The link says it's only on rift/rift s you're rocking a meta quest though, and I've got the quest 3 so it's it compatible? I'm confused. Definitely want to try it though
its a PC app, but like he mentions on the video if you link your quest 3 with your computer by cable/airlink/steamlink you can use it on your quest 3 :) same as substance modeller which is another great sculpting app.
Good point! Definitely works on Quest 2 and 3 so not sure why it says that!
@DannyMac3d I am so excited to try it I cannot wait to get home and try it out!
Shapelab is a PCVR application, that's why it appears on the 'Rift' (PCVR) store of Meta. However, you can use it smoothly with the Quest headsets, if tethered to a PC. :)
Does Danny work for a studio as a modeler?
Looks like is does the same thing as free Adobe Medium. What are the differences?
Is it possible to buy the finished model?
I am now curious as to how well Apple's new product would do for this?
Oh, ShapeLab - yeah, love this tool, but it lacks some of the features that are available in Adobe Substance Modeler, such as sculpting in space with different brushes and painting with them. This is similar to the functionality of Dreams on the PS5.
Poor shape lab paid for this blender commercial!
I bought shapelab a while ago and im still yet to even boot it up. But im gonna.
What do you recommend, the steam version or meta?
I can't speak for this program specifically, but in general it's preferred to get your VR stuff on Steam in case you switch to a non-Meta headset at some point. Anything in the Meta PC store only works on the Meta headsets. You /can/ access with a different headset with something like Revive, but it's a workaround that doesn't always work perfectly according to some people.
I didnt see Shape Lab in the Meta store, is it still there?
I love shapelab, sometimes sculpt in bed wirlessly lol
Is this an ad or your honest review
Us sculptors with migranes be like.. nahhh we okay with the tablets
Yea there's no way I could wear a vr set for extended periods lmao
Nothing causes back and neck pain better than VR
Do you make avatars for vrchat?
Now we just need kinetic force feedback gloves to actually feel the matter and sculpt in 3D like real clay. XD
11:24 Squidward? 😭😭
I like shapelab but I find the closer I bring the model to me the blurrier it is, just cuz that’s how vr works and it makes it tricky to sculpt fine details
Do you wear glasses irl? You might need to get lenses or try the opposite and not wear glasses in VR. My stuff never gets blurrier the closer it gets.
thank you for this +40 minutes ad
keep that trash off your face
watches the whole thing then complains.
@@mick7727 I stopped watching it after 20 seconds. Then skipped until the end and noticed it was all the same.
Probably you should stfu 🙂
Nice
How is it relative to Medium?
the app pricing seems rather expensive compare to the alternatives. but I rather have more than less.
O.O Im getting one
Let's look at some other application for 3D in VR together.
After 35 minute it starts to look like.... not like video but..... you get it))))
Wooow jinx
To everyone in this channel, what do you prefer or consider a better app? Shapelab or Adobe Medium?
MOAR BONES
my only problem with sculpting in VR: Hands so tired after 20 mins.
is this blender??
Is this a subscription based app?
What headset are you using?
that's a quest 3
Meta Quest 3 :)
@@DannyMac3d Hmmm I might get one on Monday but there are probably few good games out for it lol.
@@DarkAutumn3D There are some great ones, depending on what you like. Red Matter 2 is beautiful, and Asgard's Wrath 2 has some really interesting use of VR (as well as looking quite nice). Plus being able to use Steam VR is nice, though I don't do that often. I would suggest a new head strap rather than the soft strap (Elite or Bobo are both good, plus the extra battery time is good).
I don't recall you ever asking about this in any of your videos, in our defense, some of us would of told you.
Fun fact. Blender has a VR mode..
não fnciona no blender ainda!
but can you have multiple views like in blender?
Subscription service is a deal breaker for me. I don't use Adobe products because of that.
Do you play VRChat? Because you should!
Uh what's with the edited out pants, by the leg
his pants had bad Bokeh markings.. Did you edit out the PC tether.. ? th 2:44 -2:46 there is also editing behind the ear..
Wtaf 🤣
Wie heißt die App denn?
Steht in der Beschreibung...
The main point I'm getting from this video is that you won't be able to do everything needed to make a 3d sculpture without also exporting/importing into another program. That's a shame.
like and subscribe for SURE! awesome stuff man, i learned a lot
I need to see if it’s sub or perpetual
my apple vision so much better. I can do so many things with it. Like virtual desktop. And virtual desktop,
w8, shoes at home??
I try it letztes say my experience with not so good. I had better experience with blender.😅
it would be nice but it is paid ofc this day people thinks only geting money and apps lika this is getting waisted
