Shahriar Kabir The speed of Virgin Atlantic is however fast Gatwick is traveling, because that's where it is based. The A340, on the other hand, is probably traveling at roughly in the region of approximately close to, plus or minus a few km/h, a velocity which may exceed, by some margin, or possibly not, depending on whether they need to make up time, or not, as the case may be, a speed not too different from it's published average cruising speed, which, in the case of an A340 is, somewhere around .78M. I remember reading a story a while back. A Boeing 747 took off from JFK bound for Paris France. It was followed by an Air France Concorde. The Concorde of course over took the 747 in short order because it was going 800 mph faster. Anyway, the Concorde landed first, passengers got off, luggage was removed. +MrBreezY270 It was a story I read in some magazine many years ago, at least 20 years. The article made no mention of flight numbers. But I imagine that was a routine occurrence. The point was to illustrate the superiority of the Concorde's speed.
+itsmegp46 I remember reading that story too. Sometimes it's just fun to contemplate. I was on that Virgin Atlantic. So good to see your own plane cruising at that speed from another plane. Amazing contrail plus beautiful aircraft the A340-600.
Yeah the A340 is an older 6 speed Auto with a lower ratio diff for faster acceleration . The new dual clutch 7 speed auto with over drive gives the 787 a higher top speed .:D
The A340 doesent even have that faster acceleration. Ever seen one starting at high temperatures? It looks like the 340 is climbing just because earth is round.
nonsense, me and old grandpa used to tinker on his old A310, man that old beauty was fast 4 speed manual with a "hot" caburetor... i then started to do paper rounds until i could afford myself a 340, that was back in 94, good times. love the 6 speed auto though! the kickdown is quite good and can put some poser bmw and boeings to shame.
If it hasn't been said yet, 40k ft is near the top of RVSM airspace which allows the 1000ft separation. It used to be 2000ft until it was realized that more and more air traffic were frequent the north atlantic routes. Beautiful contrails btw!!!
That was absolutely incredible! Definitely one of the top five aviation videos I've ever seen. Amazing catch! And great filming! I'm impressed by how smooth you managed to film that. Great job!
The A340 600 is now my favorite. I am 6'2 and the isles have only two seats, so your not crammed. Nice and comfortable. Of course it was with Lufthansa, so everything was enjoyable.
Such a cool video. The B787 is such a modern and interresting plane, I love the wing flex. And the A340 is so beautiful. Perhaps not the most efficient or common plane in the sky but imho it's one of the most beautiful, perhaps the most beautiful of them all
The A345 is what some call the modern day 747SP. Excellent range, used for what was the longest passenger flight in the world (SQ21/22), but slow sales due to losing out to the 777LR. Who knows, maybe in a few years they will be purchased by heads of state or rich celebrities as private jets.
Beautiful video. In 2007 I flew from Atlanta to Rome on a 777-300 and there was another 777 with us all the way until it turned south somewhere over Iceland though it was definitely not as close.
Very cool video Rachael. Thanks. I worked for Boeing as an engineer for 41 years. My first airplane project was the 747 and the last was the Dreamliner. I really enjoy good airplane videos. By the way, the A340 was part of Airbus' attempt to design two airplanes with lots of commonality to each other, including using the same engines. The twin engine A330 was pretty successful as a competitor for high end 767 and MD-11, but the four engine A340 was a dog. It was supposed to be competition for the 777, but with the extra drag of four engines and other aerodynamic problems it failed miserably. Many A340 customers traded them in for 777's after only a few years in service. Boeing couldn't sell them and they ended up parked in the Arizona desert, probably forever.
Eric Janssen Yeah the four engine A340 was planned in a time when the ETOPS regulations for two engine planes were much stricter than they are today. Today, planes like the A330 and the B777-300ER are allowed to use routes that take them 240 or 330 flight minutes away from emergency runways. Airbus did not foresee that correctly when planning the A340. Hence the A340 can not compete with the two engine planes any more when it comes to efficiency.
David Reed There's more to it than that. The A330 & A340 were designed at the same time and share most of their structure, including the wings. At the time, ETOPS was a limiting factor on twin engined operations & Airbus used the tagline '4 engines 4 long haul' - they could fly direct, instead of always remaining no more than 120 minutes from a diversionary airport. It's direct flight ability made it an economical aircraft - until the 777 turned up a couple of years later & ETOPS was 'coincidently' increased to 180 minutes. The 777 was the first new design to be given 180 minutes ETOPS by the FAA. With the 777 being able to fly direct, most of the time, the A340 lost it's direct route advantage - removing the main thing that made it economical. The A330 is still in production & taking orders, with the 330NEO planned. All but the very largest future aircraft will be twins.
Fantastic video! This is what I call the best ever advert for Rolls Royce power catching up with Virgin. Free of charge. Save the best til last. Roaring and soaring stuff!
Wow, this was exciting! I've noticed that the Dreamliner flies at a higher altitude, and faster the the conventional aircraft, but never seen anything like this. I fllown Norwegian Dreamliner to Bangkok, and just loved the experience of this airplane, the service, and the affordable price!
The service ceiling is about the same for all these big airlines. It's just simply benefiting from better winds than the A340. Only real example of a "faster" subsonic hey would be the CV-990, and none of the them have flown in decades
A very rare oppotunity indeed to witness two amazing plane so close to each other...Congrats to you for a very vivid and detailed video shoot I enjoyed it as if I was part of the passenger on board Norwegian Dreamliner...
I had 2 amasing experiances on a flight i was on from Alicante-Dublin. It was about 10pm but i could just make out the red and green wing lights of a plane flying over at around 37,000ft and then another was that i looked at towards the back and just passing behind my plane was another aircraft which looked to be an a320
It's not everyday you see a flight this close too you. But then again were looking through a camera at a zoomed angle. So it's rather "subjective" in terms of just how close the two jets actually were. Pretty awesome none the less.
This is not a A340-200/300. The A340-600 is not underpowered. Period. The Virgin Atlantic A346 uses 4-Trent 556-61 certified to a takeoff thrust of 260kn each.
Sometimes when I get on an airplane I imagibe it's like a teleportation machine that when it's actually "flying" we're just stuck somewhere on the ground. Videos like this bring the whole crazy reality.
nice video man. RR engines at the better engines though. Also, they're traveling in the same direction so they actually have 2K feet of vertical separation.
Hi! Wow! Absolutely beautiful video, excellent job videoing Your observations. I guess the 787 is faster than the A340, it is not the same technology and the size of aircraft also and many other intangibles. Maybe it depends on the Pilots. Very beautiful video indeed. Take care and have a nice day.
Commercial airplanes in service don't fly as fast as they can go. They fly at a speed just below the point where the (shock) wave drag begins to ramp up rapidly due to supersonic flow over a portion of the wing. This maximizes range and keeps fuel consumption at optimum. Boeing still has the edge on Airbus regarding wing aerodynamics, and consequently the 787 has a higher cruising speed than the A340.
***** This is not correct. The cruising speed of the B787 is higher than the A340, in a situation like this the Dreamliner will pass a A340. The 787 is also capable to cruise at a higher altitude (visibly seen on this video), where the air is thinner.
Eric Janssen The cruise altitude for an airliner changes as they burn off fuel. The lighter the airplane gets the higher it can go and still get the necessary lift. Another consideration is the structural life of the fuselage. The higher the altitude the more stress on the structure, so the total life of the airframe is reduced by cruising at higher altitudes. The 787 definitely has better structure than any of the aluminum tube aircraft, so can fly higher. Over the life of the airplane the savings in fuel is huge.
rachaelmatt The 787 does fly faster than SOME other aircraft, but not all. You are correct that it can cruise at 0.85 mach but the 747-8, A350 and A380 are also able to do so (I think the latter 2 are 0.86 mach). In a real world scenario, optimal cruise speed is affected by weight and the range required. The only aircraft I've ever heard of having lower fuel burn at higher cruise speeds is the A380.
It's not everyday you see another jet that close to you outside your window. I wonder if they were both headed to the same destination or at least close range to each others destinations...? The Airbus has 4 engines and the Boeing only has two so that's saying something right there in terms of speed unless the Airbus wasn't at full throttle. What ever the case great great camera footage regardless...!!!
tomtalker2000 This is actually a more regular thing than people expect. I've seen it before, not quite that close but not far off. You can see races all the time looking on Flight Radar. There's often 2 side by side somewhere with just 1,000ft vertical separation.
Incredible. I have a deep passion for anything avian I've been in the avian field (birding wise) where it all started for the last 30yrs having both wild & exotic species experience. I've worked with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. I often tell folks that when you watch a soaring Bird of Prey even a Raven for that matter. Watch there primary wingtips as they soar because you will see them spread out like fingers on your hand. Sometimes they will be pointed other times there will be a deep spread in between each fingered wingtip. Other times there will be two tips up and two pointing downwards. Hold your hand out to your side with your thumb tucked in and 4 fingers spread apart and you'll get an idea of what i'm talking about when the soar. This method is EXACTLY what we copied from them with the wingtips we added onto jets. With them added onto a jet obviously less fuel is used up during a flight. And for birds that soar the way they adjust there fingered wingtips is very similar to a jet in how it affects the manner in which they soar on a thermal updraft. And whether or not they have to flap and exert the extra effort or simply adjust there wingtips to the thermal there soaring on. I'm sure you've also noticed how when planes land the flaps are deployed and lowered. Birds do the exact same thing EVERYONE of them minus Hummingbirds and Penguins to slow there flight upon a landing. It's truly amazing what we've copied from nature but we'll never perfect it the way they have.
Ive seen a United Boeing 777 really close my to my windows while flying from Frankfurt to Miami on a Lufthansa A380. Saw it over the coast of Canada. I wonder how the passengers on the 777 reacted to a big A380 outside their windows.
+Sterlingjob I guess you meant the engines were "derated" as opposed to "bebated" as the latter would have been the discussion process about whether to derate!
Big jets of the same or approx. weight class fly 2,000 ft above each other heading the same direction. And smaller / midsize jets fly 3,000 ft to 8,760 ft below the big jets. A380 TOP, C5, C17, ANTNOW, KC air tankers, 747 ETC.. 2,000 FT INBETWEEN SPACE, AND 500 ft apart, left or right heading the direction BELOW. 777, A340, 787, MD 11, A330, 767 fly 3.000 ft to 5,000 ft below depending on the air traffic heading the same direction but 900 ft apart left or right. 757, 737 A320, and some others in that weight class fly way below the above big jets. They also have following distance rules mini is about 15 mins. if they follow too close then they will encounter turbulence. In fact all of their routing, turns, landing, take off, taxi, air speed, flying levels, following distance, etc... are giving to the pilots constantly by the air control towers.
You're right that it's 2,000 ft. separation if they're going the same way in most cases, but there are special rules in place to allow 1,000 ft. on some of the trans-oceanic routes, such as the one in this video.
Superb! 3:23 is a very satisfying shot. A shame that a quad engine is slower. Speed is supposed to be its USP. Its sad that very few quad engined airplanes are in production now. Real beauties they are.
+Devon Edwards You clearly know very little about aviation. So don't leave your uninformed, critical & petty opinions on my videos. In what way do you see danger in this video?
Hey, pal, it's time to living in reality. You fantasies aren't reality. "Geoengineering"? Stop listening to Alex Jones a bit. The guy is having some serious mental health issue on you. "Chemtrailing" what? Fish?
One time I was playing FS2004 flying high over the Atlantic on my way to Miami International, when all of a sudden...BAM!!! A plane T-boned me right in mid-air. Then I had to start the flight over again 😡 this video reminded me of that.
Virgin Atlantic should order 12 Boeing 777-300ER's ( They do make a very good profit $$$$$$ ) They should order some in my opinion they are wonderful Come on Virgin buy the 777's
Nope, the Airbus A350-1000 has 25% lower fuel burn per seat than 777-300ER, and the A350 does not vanish without a trace like the 777 has done. With significantly better fuel consumption and better safety, the A350 XWB is a far better choice.
You may be right but the front of the A350 looks hideous compared to the 777-300ER They are a Boeing , Airbus Airline Don't know what they would choose i guess the 777 as it can carry 332 Pasengers
JundaComputersGmbH I think your comment is unfair and unjustified. Yes, the A350 has lower fuel burn, and I have no doubt that it will likely offer a more pleasant flying experience also. But as so far, only about 5 A350s have been out flying, mostly for testing, your comment regarding safety is completely unfounded. The 777 has a superb safety record, one of the best for any commercial aircraft ever, and MH370 hasn't changed that until we know what happened, if we ever find out. And for the record, I prefer Airbus.
Nice..Very nice video..I like to see flightradar24 too.. ..last week I was taking a look on Turkish Airlines TK15 and TK16 route: Istanbul - Sao Paulo - Buenos Aires and returning..these Boeing 777-300's flights passes over Leopold Sedar Airport in Dakar and over Rio de Janeiro (where I live) sky at a high altitude going to Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires..one day on Flightradar I notice a radical curve to right over Brazil and Uruguay's frontier and I found in a weather report map that it was happening a large zone of instability just that moment..it was amazing find it.. Best wishes
Does anyone know why the contrails are not equal at about 3:30? A difference in thrust settings on the engines maybe? Cool video. That would have made for an interesting flight.
josh glovatsky After reading your question, I wondered that - then noticed the direction of the sun & shadows (fuselage shadow on the left wing, over no.2 engine, plus bright reflections on the front/side edge of each engine nacelle). The sun is in front & to the right of both planes. The A340's no2. (left inboard) engine's contrail is in the shadow of the rear fuselage, until it passes the tail & therefore isn't brightly illuminated immediately. The contrails from engines 1, 3 & 4 aren't in shadow. That's my theory anyway.
Very nice shoot of the A340 flight which is approximately 1,000 feet (34,800 cm) below. Both B787 (Dreamliner) and A340 have the same Roll Royce engines in compared with each others about the speed. Because of a new fiberglass and technological wingspans in the aircraft, the Dreamliner is lighter and flying faster than any aircrafts including A380. Thanks for a good show.
Awesome video. Would have been funny if there was a way to have each pilot announce to the opposite plane's passengers, by linking the radios and intercoms.
I can just imagine the friendly smacktalk radio chatter going on between the pilots/copilots of the two planes. :) They do pass eachother unusually close though.
I think the pilot wanted to give that view equally to passengers on the right side of the plane as well. Towards the end of the video, I could see it was drifting left to position the aircraft to the left of the Virgin Atlantic. Nice pilot.
Amazing video. Boeing 787 was behind and finally caught up and passed over the old A-340. No way A-340 can compete with the New Dreamliner. Nice video.
In 1992 I was on a Concorde Promo flight from Jeddah to London. It took off an hour after the regular BA 767 flight and landed in London an hour ahead of it.
Not a surprise at all. Recently on Norwegian Air to London, the ground speed according to the screen on the seatback in front of me was 703 mph (.92 speed of sound). Whenever I can I fly the Dreamliner even if it is more expensive...what a great piece of engineering. The flight to London from Boston was just over 5 hours.
Very nice video, thanks! Why should there anything dangerous about it? Aren't the pilots in contact with ground control stuff anyway? How long have these two planes been flying side-by-side?
You rarely get a sense of speed when flying in a commercial airliner. Here I can really sense how they are hauling ass like there is no tomorrow. Great video.

I've passed another jet going the other way, and yes, that shows you really are hauling ass.

I seriously think they would faint in shock and say witchcraft is being used to design planes today!
Orville lived until 1948, so he had a pretty good idea where things were headed.

I was on that Virgin Atlantic. So good to see your own plane cruising at that speed from another plane. Amazing contrail plus beautiful aircraft the A340-600.
K den?
That is absolutely awesome to see another jet liner along you on the middle of the Atlantic!
Yeah the A340 is an older 6 speed Auto with a lower ratio diff for faster acceleration . The new dual clutch 7 speed auto with over drive gives the 787 a higher top speed .:D
Lol
The A340 doesent even have that faster acceleration. Ever seen one starting at high temperatures? It looks like the 340 is climbing just because earth is round.
SebiAUT "It looks like the 340 is climbing just because earth is round." ==> Got me laughing out loud. Now *there's* a poor climb gradient! :)
Have you ever watched A340 takeoff videos? It doesn't accelerate very fast either.
nonsense, me and old grandpa used to tinker on his old A310, man that old beauty was fast 4 speed manual with a "hot" caburetor...
i then started to do paper rounds until i could afford myself a 340, that was back in 94, good times.
love the 6 speed auto though! the kickdown is quite good and can put some poser bmw and boeings to shame.
What a fantastic video! Great camera work to capture a genuinely incredible and clear mid-atlantic passing. Thanks for sharing!
This is probably the coolest thing about flying. Why watch a movie?
Josh Guzek yes a different world up there, away from everything, just great
Pisses me off when someone with a window seat lowers the blind and pretends to sleep, don't want to look out don't rob the window seat.
If it hasn't been said yet, 40k ft is near the top of RVSM airspace which allows the 1000ft separation. It used to be 2000ft until it was realized that more and more air traffic were frequent the north atlantic routes. Beautiful contrails btw!!!
u r so lucky. as another aviation enthusiast, I would have LOVED to be there
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I have watched this over and over again and can keep on going all night long. Keep 'em coming!
Two Rolls Royce Trent 1000s against 4 Rolls Royce Trent 500s. The Airbus 340 is a most elegant aircraft.
It the most elegant and most beautiful aircraft everbuilt
787 uses Ge engines
More powerful and more efficient
Lesley Nyamuronda 787 uses both
Just Raze Ahh cheers
That was absolutely incredible! Definitely one of the top five aviation videos I've ever seen. Amazing catch! And great filming! I'm impressed by how smooth you managed to film that. Great job!
One of the Most beautiful video ever seen !! Kudos
Who knows, maybe in a few years they will be purchased by heads of state or rich celebrities as private jets.
nigahiga6400 This was a A340-600. the 500 series is the one you are talking about! the 600 did not have the range of the 500!
Except of course the 747-SP is the fastest of the bunch.
Beautiful video. In 2007 I flew from Atlanta to Rome on a 777-300 and there was another 777 with us all the way until it turned south somewhere over Iceland though it was definitely not as close.
That is a seriously good video must have been amazing to watch that
Oooh, this is rare! Straight to my playlist. Thanks for sharing this one of a kind footage, man.
Thanks for this insight from an expert. I've heard several times that the A340 is not a very efficient aircraft.
Could'nt Airbus have seen this coming? Even Boeing is doing away with the 747,would be nice if they used 3 engines instead of 4
David Reed There's more to it than that.
Good to know you...
Fantastic video! This is what I call the best ever advert for Rolls Royce power catching up with Virgin. Free of charge. Save the best til last. Roaring and soaring stuff!
Great video, it would be cool if someone on the A340 was filming back at the Dreamliner, and uploaded to TH-cam.
Wonka! Your videos are awesome :)
Flight simulator video, not real one,
@@aeromodelismoenrota lwrobg this is real m8
It would be cool if the passengers of each plane did reaction videos to the other planes' videos.
i know it is kinda randomly asking but do anybody know a good website to watch newly released series online ?
Wow, this was exciting! I've noticed that the Dreamliner flies at a higher altitude, and faster the the conventional aircraft, but never seen anything like this. I fllown Norwegian Dreamliner to Bangkok, and just loved the experience of this airplane, the service, and the affordable price!
The service ceiling is about the same for all these big airlines. It's just simply benefiting from better winds than the A340. Only real example of a "faster" subsonic hey would be the CV-990, and none of the them have flown in decades
WOW, this looks so awesome. Great Air Race. Thx for sharing. Cheers from Hamburg
A very rare oppotunity indeed to witness two amazing plane so close to each other...Congrats to you for a very vivid and detailed video shoot I enjoyed it as if I was part of the passenger on board Norwegian Dreamliner...
Is there any video "from" virgin Atlantic?
Me too I would love to see a clip from Virgin Atlantic pax
That is very cool footage! I recall getting close to a 737 over Beijing but I wasn't fast enough to pull out my camera!
I had 2 amasing experiances on a flight i was on from Alicante-Dublin. It was about 10pm but i could just make out the red and green wing lights of a plane flying over at around 37,000ft and then another was that i looked at towards the back and just passing behind my plane was another aircraft which looked to be an a320
Good ol' flightradar lol
i love that website
It's not everyday you see a flight this close too you. But then again were looking through a camera at a zoomed angle. So it's rather "subjective" in terms of just how close the two jets actually were. Pretty awesome none the less.
This is not a A340-200/300. The A340-600 is not underpowered. Period. The Virgin Atlantic A346 uses 4-Trent 556-61 certified to a takeoff thrust of 260kn each.
okay boss
keili1212 cool story bro
AMAZING capture! As a flight attendant for NWA, I never got tired of things like this.
"Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your fuckin seatbelts because shit is about to get real."
+Noah Guerin aha ive seen that meme
I went on a Norwegian 737 it was awesome and it was my first time going on Norwegian I was going to Barcelona
Copying someone else's joke for some thumbs up. Pathetic.
"Molly Russell" said that one year before you, do you know how to read comments? scroll up! Pathetic indeed!
+Noah:
..Nooo.. Naah, not on your seat. Please use the lavatory
"Remember boys, no points for second place." Quote from Top Gun. Great video, Train_PlaneHub!!
Wow that must be cool to see in real life!
They both have Rolls Royce engines
To see a plane up close on the ground is awesome but seeing one in the air hauling ass its amazing.
Hi!
***** The dreamliner does fly average of mach. 85 faster than other aircraft.
Brilliant video!! I tow and push back Virgin Atlantic aircraft at London Heathrow so to see it at 39,000 ft is amazing ☺
Actually 787 is faster than the A340. But it depends on load and regulations and altitude. This was awesome anyway.
ways faster, the A350-600 IS 567 mph while the 787 can 593mph. both are many times after than a f1
where can I view the full video of this flight..thanks for sharing
It's not everyday you see another jet that close to you outside your window. I wonder if they were both headed to the same destination or at least close range to each others destinations...? The Airbus has 4 engines and the Boeing only has two so that's saying something right there in terms of speed unless the Airbus wasn't at full throttle. What ever the case great great camera footage regardless...!!!
Virgin was bound for Boston, we were bound for New York. Number of engines doesn't count for much
Interesting awesome video footage though. Surely a once in a lifetime encounter I would think.
tomtalker2000 This is actually a more regular thing than people expect.
I have only been on Concorde once, but it is a memory I will never forget.
No surprise here. An A340 can barely get out of it's own way.
At least the a340 is reliable unlike the 787 which is a maintenance nightmare
+Sterlingjob I actually really like the A340. It's one of my favorite planes, it's downright beautiful to look at. But powerful it is certainly not.
The engines have been debated to 54000lbs of thrust. It's operation is designed for economics not performance. Empty at toga I bet it's a rocket
+Sterlingjob I guess you meant the engines were "derated" as opposed to "bebated" as the latter would have been the discussion process about whether to derate!
Predictive!
Fantastic video......how exciting is air travel in those beautiful big birds!!
Chemtrails killing us all 8D (just kidding obviously). It doesn't look like there is actually 1000 feet separating the two planes.
Yes. That's why human life expectancy in developed countries (you know the ones with most planes over them) is higher now than it ever has been.
2,000 FT INBETWEEN SPACE, AND 500 ft apart, left or right heading the direction
BELOW. 777, A340, 787, MD 11,
A330, 767 fly 3.000 ft to 5,000 ft below depending on the air traffic heading the same direction but 900 ft apart left or right.
Beautiful in every way you look at it, proving that there are angels in the sky!
foot to the floor captain !
Not the left foot - wouldn't recommend a left-rudder-pedal input here. ;)
I wouldn't recommend any rudder movement, instead, we should use the throttle.
POWERRR!!
D Loui spontaneously yaw left or spontaneously yaw right? Or break the rudder.
For anyone who really loves airplanes and all these stuffs, this video is epic. I'm really impressive.
Wow that Virgin A340 is fast....Norwegian Dreamliner "Hold my drink"...
Superb! 3:23 is a very satisfying shot.
A shame that a quad engine is slower. Speed is supposed to be its USP. Its sad that very few quad engined airplanes are in production now. Real beauties they are.
Ah, the Almighty Algorithm has brought us all together again! Welcome, gentlebeings!
Unbelievable footage....liked how it passed underneath you at the end....this is truly epic....!! Cheers...Steve.
wow - that was definitely 'off the books' - hope those pilots still have jobs
Devon Edwards There is nothing dangerous about this at all. Perfectly normal procedure.
B.s.
+Devon Edwards You clearly know very little about aviation. So don't leave your uninformed, critical & petty opinions on my videos. In what way do you see danger in this video?
Devon Edwards at least 1000ft of vertical separation so there was no chance of these planes hitting. This happens 100s( if not 1000s) of times a day
Thanks Danniel - I've researched that and found the same.
rachaelmatt - are you a pilot?
An airbus 340 and a boeing 787, together in the sky, really wonderful
That other plane isn't a passenger plane but is a plane outfitted for chemtrailing
TINFOIL HAT BRIGADE ROLL UP
Yea dude, lets drop chemtrails over the atlantic. Brain wash those fucking fish.
its called geoengineering..look it up. has nothing to do with spraying people.
Levi 😂😂
Hey, pal, it's time to living in reality. You fantasies aren't reality. "Geoengineering"? Stop listening to Alex Jones a bit. The guy is having some serious mental health issue on you. "Chemtrailing" what? Fish?
One time I was playing FS2004 flying high over the Atlantic on my way to Miami International, when all of a sudden...BAM!!! A plane T-boned me right in mid-air. Then I had to start the flight over again 😡 this video reminded me of that.
Rolls Royce always wins
Both planes are powered by rolls royve engines
Draylogic ...
KingKap 22 he is technically something I can't bring myself to say against RR
But RR have character, and they sound good as well
WOW, Excellent video, great quality and VERY rare to get such a film....
Virgin Atlantic should order 12 Boeing 777-300ER's
( They do make a very good profit $$$$$$ )
They should order some in my opinion they are wonderful
Come on Virgin buy the 777's
Nope, the Airbus A350-1000 has 25% lower fuel burn per seat than 777-300ER, and the A350 does not vanish without a trace like the 777 has done. With significantly better fuel consumption and better safety, the A350 XWB is a far better choice.
You may be right but the front of the A350 looks hideous compared to the 777-300ER
They are a Boeing , Airbus Airline
Don't know what they would choose i guess the 777 as it can carry 332 Pasengers
By Virgin you mean Delta Airlines. They have ordered A330 neos and the new A350s. They will replace the 767s in their fleet.
Sounds cool 777 300er would suit them replace the a340 and sadly 747 but still love both aircrafts
JundaComputersGmbH
I think your comment is unfair and unjustified. And for the record, I prefer Airbus.
that video is a very rare find. its almost priceless!. they are always racing each other across the atlantic daily
It's chemtrails
josh glovatsky After reading your question, I wondered that - then noticed the direction of the sun & shadows (fuselage shadow on the left wing, over no.2 engine, plus bright reflections on the front/side edge of each engine nacelle).
Umayr Butt bullshit:-D
tjp353 yeah. I belive you are right. Thanks.
Awesome video ....Rare occasion ... Normally we couldn't have seen two flights flying closer together ....
Recently flew United 787 from Paris. Amazing aircraft. Great video. Thank you.
I can just imagine the friendly smacktalk radio chatter going on between the pilots/copilots of the two planes. :) They do pass eachother unusually close though.
Incredible no matter how many times I've watched this!! Flying on a B787-9 later this year - hope I see something half as awesome!
I think the pilot wanted to give that view equally to passengers on the right side of the plane as well. Towards the end of the video, I could see it was drifting left to position the aircraft to the left of the Virgin Atlantic. Nice pilot.
@3:28 ...There something wrong with that left inner engine. The smoke trails are different.
You mean the shadow of the plane itself on the vapour trail? Not smoke.
Amazing video. Boeing 787 was behind and finally caught up and passed over the old A-340. No way A-340 can compete with the New Dreamliner. Nice video.
Engine failure over the Pacific has joined the chat
In 1992 I was on a Concorde Promo flight from Jeddah to London. It took off an hour after the regular BA 767 flight and landed in London an hour ahead of it.
Great video, Interesting to see the port inner engine of the A340 is operating at lower temperature then the other 3 engines, wonder why?
Why don't those contrails disappear after a few seconds when the temps acclimate?
The trails are comprised of ice crystals, so why do you expect them to 'acclimate' straight away, when the air is still way below freezing?
Not a surprise at all. Recently on Norwegian Air to London, the ground speed according to the screen on the seatback in front of me was 703 mph (.92 speed of sound). Whenever I can I fly the Dreamliner even if it is more expensive...what a great piece of engineering. The flight to London from Boston was just over 5 hours.
Great quality - what camera is it?
WOW! Amazing great job!
Liked a lot!!
I also saw a United 777 from onboard Air Berlin A330 over the atlantic :)
If the 787 had flown behind the A340 would it have caught up sooner or would it have experienced more turbulence?
Both New York bound or was the Virgin bound for Newark?
When I looked after landing the Virgin was bound for Boston :)
amazing. must have been breathtaking.
Very nice video, thanks! Why should there anything dangerous about it? Aren't the pilots in contact with ground control stuff anyway? How long have these two planes been flying side-by-side?
awesome photography. amazing to see a plane at it's best...in mid-flight.
Nice video, everything from the airplane window. Thanks for the video.
Love the super close-up shot of the A346 at 3:41. What camera are you using for this?
