    I forgot to say THANKS for the zest idea. I just made your pine tar recipe( which is lovely) and I used lime and tea tree EO in it and almost a week later my tiny house still has that nice smell in it from the curing soap, anyway the next time I make pine tar I’ll add Lime zest too! You’ve opened up a whole new zesty world for me😉

    After watching your videos I have finally gathered the courage to make my very first loaf of soap. I picked this one to start yesterday and it was really difficult to wait 24 hours. I'm glad I did: it turned out beautifully: the colour is uniform, the smell is very light as I didn't use essential oils but still lovely. The only problem I had was that it didn't fill my mould. After checking I found that it's because the ingredients add up to 1038g but I used a 1200g mould like in the video. I will have to adapt the quantities for next time (I've seen you made a very clear video for that) but, in the meantime, I'm extatic. Thank you so much for making your videos so simple to follow. :-)

I`m so glad I found you as you gave me the courage to start making my own soaps - I have skin issues and am trying to avoid all store bought cosmetics, cleaning products etc. I also made your laundry soap and am so grateful! It cleans good and leaves everything nice and soft. Thank you and God bless you!

    I grew up on an orange grove. My mom decided one day we could get rich selling the zest. We zested about 1000 oranges for her one night. We laid it all out on our trampoline to dry, the next morning we could not walk outside. Hahahahah our entire back yard was thick with nats 😂😂😂

Mine smells clean but the lime zest fragrance didn’t come through in mine unfortunately. But the soap is gorgeous - love your recipe, Elly 🥰 - and I’m going to make another batch without the zest and with Lime-Litsea essential oil fragrances. LOVE your channel and you, Elly! Thank you so much. ❤️

      But do we have to use Sodium Hydroxide, can it be replaced by something natural?

    • @angelbear_og
      @angelbear_og 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@أمةالرحمنموسى Yes you do, and sodium hydroxide IS natural, it's made from salt and water. It is what saponifies the oil (converts it from oil to hard soap). Soft/liquid soap requires potassium hydroxide (a different form of lye made from ash and water). Once the soap is cured, no lye (nor water, nor oil unless you've superfatted) remains.

    Hi Elly, I tried this, I love the result, is moisturising and lather well, and love the orange smell (I added sweet orange EO) . This is first time I use castor oil in soap making, the soap feel a bit sticky when unmould, I thought my orange peel not dried properly but after cured for a few days, no more stickiness. I am so happy with the result, just want to share with you. Thanks 😊

    Hi Ellie... I love this simple soap and the recipe also seems great. Looking forward to trying it with some 5 or 10x orange essential oils, maybe even a touch of grapefruit and lavender. It looks great, love that the peel seems to keep its colour rather than turning slightly brown. Thanks so much for sharing this!

      You're welcome Patrick! I love your essential oil choices, I have tenfold orange which is fantastic, unfortunately grapefruit doesn't seem to last well in soap. Lavender would be nice. Litsea cubea or lemon myrtle would also go well with the orange if you want to stick to citrus scents.

    Hi, I just watched your video because I made Sweet Orange soap yesterday which used orange zest and Orange 10X EO. It’s a CP recipe but the soap is put in the refrigerator for 24-48 before unmolding which I have never previously done. I checked this morning, and it is still very soft. I was disappointed ☹️. I am going to try your recipe which recipe is normally how I make CP soaps. I love the smell of orange, and your bars came out a beautiful hue and speckled 👍🏻

    so lovely n refreshing your art piece ms Elly !!
    i wonder why some people need to boiled their oil before mixing with lye..
    why is that for?

    • @EllysEverydaySoapMaking
      @EllysEverydaySoapMaking  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the oils you are using. If you're using solid oils and waxes, they need to be heated and melted first before you can make the soap. If you're using soft oils, there's not need to heat :)

    Hmmm... I zested lemon peel with a shredder and put it right into my soap. The lye beat up on the fresh zest and dissolved a lot of it, but after it turned the soap a wonderful yellow there were still plenty of recognizable particles left. I have had trouble with the citrus essential oils keeping the soap scented for a long time, so I used lemon grass instead of lemon. I might just whip up a batch of orange like this though!

    • @EllysEverydaySoapMaking
      @EllysEverydaySoapMaking  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes, the citrus oils are fleeting in cold process soap. If I want a good strong orange scent that will last I use tenfold orange essential oil - often labelled Orange Essential Oil 10X. I love lemongrass too, and lemon myrtle is another great one that lasts!

      They don't need to be the same temperature as the lye solution. The oils are just at room temperature for this recipe.

    Dear Elly,
    Thank you very much for this beautiful recipe. I haven’t tried it yet but I have the feeling, it will be great. If I want to double the recipe, will it be like the following:
    - Olive Oil 1.326 g
    - Coconut Oil 156 g
    - Castor Oil 78 g
    - Water 300 g
    - Lye 215
    - 12 teaspoons orange zest
    - 30 ml orange essential oil
    Do you think it will be fine making it this way?
    Thank you very much,
    Hafsa

      Yes, you could make this without castor oil, but there isn't really anything I would suggest to replace it. Perhaps just increase the olive and coconut oils? This would be a good alternative recipe th-cam.com/video/Kc7duzDEa6Y/w-d-xo.html
