My family had dinner together every night. It was similar to this. I was so blessed in the 80s and 90s to have an old-fashioned family. We need to go back to this. Many good times were at the family table in my family. And respecting parents is a must. I think we need classic families back.

In today's world not every family can be together for dinner. Due to the economy, many parents have to work shifts that don't allow it.

I like the suggestion of not springing unpleasant requests or complaints when dad comes home as well as keeping topics at the table pleasant... digestion, you know. 😉

This was a rule in our house, too, in the eighties and nineties. Whatever it was could wait until after dinner, unless you were bleeding, broken or on fire.

This is really the way family life was in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s for most of us middle class Americans. It was a good life.

Different world… daughter would have had home economics as a big part of her education. Working with mother would be part of that homework. Homework was done after dinner and checked by parents.

MY !....how times have changed ! After what I've seen in 73 years...
... I find it hard to believe that a regimented family like this ever existed !
Maybe this was someone's fantasy of what a family COULD be !?

Maybe it cannot be exactly like this but, the key take aways, to me, would be family before sports, friends, anything else; respect for each other and just generally caring about your appearance; slowing down and enjoying family. And out the stupid phones where we cannot see or hear them.

Back in the fifties when I was a boy If I pulled my mom's chair out for her she would check for a tack or a whoopie cushion.

Didn’t watch all of it, reality was nothing like this. 1950s were still reeling from WW2. Decade saw continued rations, polio, McCarthyism, Korea, Vietnam, racial injustices. Perfect son would be drafted soon. One thing that was constant was the woman’s place was in the home. Can’t change the past, we can learn from its mistakes.

This is cloud cuckoo land. Very much a bygone age. By now something you won't commonly find anywhere except in exceptional situations.
