Great Big Story is a video network dedicated to the untold, overlooked & flat-out amazing. Humans are capable of incredible things & we're here to tell their stories. When a rocket lands in your backyard, you get in.
Notice heart symbol at 0:33. While symbols looking like this were known in ancient times, that kind of hearts weren't really used as symbols until late middle ages.
Can you imagine how beautiful it was when the shells still had color and luster?
The seashell is on top/above Stonehenge you decide
This is an easy one. It was built for the crab king, obviously!
When your sea shell collection gets outta hand
And outta *sand*? :p :)
I have never seen shells being used in a construction, that's so cool
No more information? I know I can search it up, I just wanted more in the video. Thank you though, I will definitely look this up in detail. Beautiful footage btw :)
The music is nice.
I used to live there a few years ago and locals say it was a
“Generational Witches cave”
Apparently it was used by local witches over time and they kept adding to it building the Shell Grotto.
There is also an alter room/sacrifice room.
Another one was found under Palatine Hill but it's unknown if there's any connection.
"But no one knows who built them, or why", instantly reminds me of the mini "Stone Henge" farce from "This is Spinal Tap"! 😂😂😂😂
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Learn something everyday! Thank you!!
Tour guide: we have arrived at the entrance of the grotto. Shell we proceed?
Everyone clammed up. Go ahead.
Thanks for your video, I really enjoyed seeing the grotto, we too enjoyed Margate very much recently, it's unique and special. We've just done a gopro walk of the whole town for our youtube page too, hope you enjoy ours in exchange. Thank you we've subscribed.
Great masterpiece of art! :)
Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?
Let's skip to the part where I'll have 2 feet!
It's the hidden entrance to atlantis
@Great Big Story, the music is great. Song credits for the two tracks?
What is the name of the song? It's amazing!
"I"m an Empty Shell without You".
Wow that’s amazing
It's a toilet with complete instructions on the walls on how to use the three seashells.
Jesus, you don’t come across a Demolition Man reference everyday lol
It may be a mystery, but whatever the specifics are, it seems clear to me that it was a labor of love.
Great Video!
This is right out of a british mystery novel.
The Shell Grotto is a deeply inspiring place, and is regularly used for our Coven celebrations. See our photo page facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.759771764109029.1073741833.463202200432655&type=3.
I feel as though I have been hear before
It isn’t believed to have been constructed in the early 1800’s, that’s just when it was discovered . Nobody knows when it was truly built.
It was John Dunsworth
Someone had a lot of time in their hands
where do you get that many shells?!?!?!?! ugh! some poor beach :( ... so many sad hermit crabs.
Robbing a hundred seashell collections.
It has a couple of ghosts.
(MAGICAL MERMAIDS)
Where was the original entry & exit? A Typology of the cave for the fisher's of men. aka men fishermen.
SpongeBob built it. duh (slaps head) should of had a V8
Is there parking available if I go to visit this place?
Not really. You can park but there isn't a dedicated car park. The roads are narrow but we managed to find a space with ease.
There are some hearts in the decorations.. so I think it was built from women for women. To go there without the brutal presence of men 😊
terf moment
Uh?
