  • How Mongo back feed entire house with Portable generator.
Whenever powering your house from a portable generator (any auxiliary power source) be sure to be SAFE, use best practices, Follow your regional code.
Mongo is Mongo and Mongo does it his own way.
Mongo uses a male to male cord. NOT recommended. These type of cords are very dangerous.
A MALE cord end has Prongs that stick out.
A FEMALE cord end has cavities for the male prongs to be inserted into.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO PROPERY IDENTIFY THE DIFFRENCES!
(mongo uses a cord with one male end that identifies as a male and one male end that identifies as a female)
anyway - This type of cord can be very dangerous. You must be smarter than the cord. IF you are using one, always be sure the circuit has a switching device to control power to the outlet/cord.
FULL PROCESS - Connecting = Main panel breaker OFF, back feed outlet house breaker OFF, plug into back feed house outlet, plug into generator, start generator, back feed outlet house breaker ON.
FULL PROCESS - Disconnection = back feed outlet house breaker OFF, generator OFF, disconnect generator plug, disconnect back feed house outlet plug, main panel breaker ON
Mongo just made a video building the portable generator shed and said power never goes out on a nice day. Mother nature had to make Mongo a liar, sure enough the next day it nice out and power go out.
Hopefully this video help you understand back feeding a house when the power goes out a little bit more.

I have the same Generac GP5500 generator and 50amp 3 prong outlet for my welder. How did you configure your suicide cord (3 prong one end and 4 at the other)? What did you do with the "4th" connection at the generator end?

On the one he dropped is the neutral. The three prong plug looks like something similar to a 6-15. I would think that since us homes have the ground neutral bond you don't actually need neutral but he does have lots of warnings that this is not up to code. So neutral was probably just cut and terminated.

Always good question. This generator has the neutral and ground BONDED. When changing a 4 prong to 3 prong for this application it won't matter which one you drop (ground or neutral). What Mongo did was wire 3 prong at the panel as it should be, power/power/ground. At the generator end Mongo wired, Power/Power/Neutral. The cord is DIY, got a few ends from the store and some 2 wire (power/power/ground, cause Mongo had some) Inside the cord the 3 prong ground is connected to the 4 prong neutral. @Defianthuman - that would work as well!
