Banjo-Kazooie Stop 'n' Swop Cheat Codes and Theories Explained (Bonus Episode 1)

- Stop 'n' Swop is one of the most mysterious things in video game history. It was originally designed to be a feature that would allow you to transfer special items from Banjo-Kazooie to Banjo-Tooie, although unfortunately it was never truly implemented. Despite this fact it is still possible to enter cheat codes into Banjo-Kazooie in order to collect the mysterious ? Eggs and the Ice Key that Mumbo taunts you with at the end of the game, although unfortunately other than looking cool in the Totals Menu they don't have any use.
If you want to collect these cool items for yourself and travel into sections of the game that you were never meant to see, you can enter any of the cheat codes below into the Sandcastle floor of Treasure Trove Cove. All of the codes are completely safe and have no risk of ruining your game cartridge or save file, although after you collect an ? Egg or the Ice Key they will be stuck on your game forever, even if you erase your save file!
Also. before entering any of the codes below you MUST enter the word CHEAT into the floor. If you do it correctly you should hear a mooing sounds after hitting each letter. If you do not do this then NONE of the cheats below will work.
Pink Egg: OUT OF THE SEA IT RISES TO REVEAL MORE SECRET PRIZES
Blue Egg: A DESERT DOOR OPENS WIDE ANCIENT SECRETS WAIT INSIDE
Cyan Egg: DONT YOU GO AND TELL HER ABOUT THE SECRET IN HER CELLAR
Green Egg: AMIDST THE HAUNTED GLOOM A SECRET IN THE BATHROOM
Red Egg: THIS SECRET YOULL BE GRABBIN IN THE CAPTAINS CABIN
Yellow Egg: NOW BANJO WILL BE ABLE TO SEE IT ON NABNUTS TABLE
Ice Key: NOW YOU CAN SEE A NICE ICE KEY WHICH YOU CAN HAVE FOR FREE

It is cool that they actually made Stop 'n' Swop work in the 360 versions, although I know exactly what you mean about Banjo Tooie. I almost feel that the levels are too big, while in the first game they were a little bit smaller but it felt like every section of each area was well used. But in the second game it seems like there is a lot of wide open space without anything to do. Heck Click Clock Wood is probably as big as Banjo Tooie's first level. :P

Great video. I was 7 when this game came out, and this is one of my all time favorite games. While I played the game to a pulp, I always wondered about that menu.

They are supposed to be for the next game, Banjo-Tooie. Although the features do not present themselves in the original N64 Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie games, Xbox 360 did finally fulfill what I think Nintendo might have wished for the original N64 games by making you play both games. Completing and getting the cheats in Banjo-Kazooie and then being able to take that over to Banjo-Tooie. So in the Banjo-Tooie N64 allowed you to get the cheats without having played banjo-Kazooie.
I'm not convinced that there were ever plans for the eggs that weren't featured in the teaser at the end of BK. In the end, only two eggs and an ice key were collectable in BT (which were originally meant to be transferred from BK, but the idea was dropped due to technical limitations). The key and the two eggs are in areas that were visible but irritatingly unaccessible (through the ice in Wozza's cave, Sharkfood Island, behind a locked door in Gobi's Valley). However, the other eggs just appear in otherwise accessible places. I think they were just put in the code in case the developers came up with further ideas for unlockable items in BT, but they never did.

Though SNS has been answered to an extent now days, there are still many mysteries left unsaid. Where these codes just debug codes? But if so..why did they has cut scenes programmed after their usage? Why did some eggs have a special room, while others were just placed into already used rooms? Why did Mad Monster Mansion get 2 eggs while other stages got none? What were the intended rewards? The Xbox gives you a gamer avatar/backgrounds, but obviously on N64 this would not have been the case. This is still one of the best gaming mysteries. The secret rooms, fanfare, the unclear story, it is all very majestic.

Haha I never even thought to look at that other wall, although I guess the weird way that the ceiling arches over that wall with the wheel always made me think it looked like a door. I definitely go and check out ThumbsUpMaster, thanks!

I'm 22 years too late but I have a suggestion...
If Stop 'N' Swop was a feature that require the use of Data Transference, why didn't the superbrains at Rare just utilize the CONTROLLER PAK to do so? 🤔
Rareware probably thought they had found this cool way of transferring data through swapping and wanted to implement a feature that took advantage of it, not realizing that Nintendo would remove the ability to do so by the time Banjo-Tooie was released. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to then go back and change the original game to use a Controller Pak instead, so the feature ended up kind of stuck in an impossible spot. But yes, the Controller Pak would have been a good way to go about things! Thank you for watching and commenting. :)
By any chance do you know how to close all of the cheats once the items have been retrieved ? i wanted to delete my game so i could start over but the stop n swap items and areas are still there .

I have both games and my old nintendo 64 which i had since i was 8 and im 21 now and i never even knew that wow im going to cefenitly try it and make a video doing the stop and swap and see what happens cus thso old games have been collecting dust now and now time to put them on a good use lol

Somehow I feel that Dragon Kazooie was some type of backup plan (rushed?) as a Stop 'n' Swap reward. Infinite fire eggs... I forget other effects... so what?

As it turns out, the stop-n-swop feature is compatible between the xbox 360 versions of all 3 games (Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Nuts n' Bolts). It would seem that Nuts n' bolts has the ultimate reward for the stop-n-swop chain.
About the Captain's Cabin, there is a door, and it was on the one wall you didn't look at. I always viewed that wall you were suspicious about as just a decoration. I've heard theories on the eggs being unlockables in Banjo Tooie such as homing eggs, breegull bash move, Jinjo in multiplayer, or even the new egg types in Banjo Tooie. You might like a user called "ThumbsUpMaster". He has some great videos detailing Stop n' Swop theories.
I can't get the ice key! I got all the eggs, but when I type the ice key code in the sandcastle nothing happens! I tried like 3 times and it doesn't work, I have gone to freezeezy peak and the key it's still inaccessible... please help me...

Back in the glory days of the N64 and original Game Boy, the schoolyard was full to the brim with crazy video game rumors, most of which ended up being false. In Banjo-Kazooie's case however, it turns out that these mysterious codes were actually the real deal! I have no idea how someone figured them out though, maybe they had an uncle that worked at Rareware? :P
AndrewsGamesDisplay hackers went through unused game files. These codes were in there along with the alpha and beta versions of the game which did contain the codes. The codes would be acted as like giveaways...sorta what Pokemon did but there would be no time limit
@@tiger4678 going through game files weren't as common back during banjo kazooie. Some people got sent cheat codes from the devs if they asked sometimes.

I was gonna comment on how the stop n swap wasn't working and I did it before on my 360 but when I checked the areas where the eggs were, they were all there and I remember awhile ago I deleted everything in my banjo kazooie game including the stop n swap. It's so weird that their still there
Can you get this without defeating the witch i type in cheat and it makes the noise but when I type every thing else it does nothing
I always thought it did! Otherwise the cheats that open note doors and levels wouldn't make much sense.
It Was Cause the n64 was able to get data stuck for 10secs so u can stop it when u got the items in tootie and quickly switch to kazoie and complete it
but the hardware improvements changed it data stuckage to 1 sec
if you find the eggs and key on the Xbox 360 version and then launch banjo kazooie nuts and bolts you will find stop n swop egg pictures hidden in the world and there is a ice house you can use the ice key on. I still have no idea what they do but mystery solved
I think the data is still stored but only for like 5 seconds and so its almost impossible to do stop and swap

These items were originally intended to be transferred over to Banjo-Tooie to unlock secret things in that game, but the feature was scrapped before Banjo-Tooie was released and instead some of these items were just hidden in that game instead. So while the reality is that there is unfortunately no real use for these items, they are still fun to unlock and collect in the original game! :)
I just bought this on Xbox arcade and I had already beat the second one.anyway,all the passages to the eggs were opened for some reason and I didn't even input the cheats....
Played BK and BT as a kid, still have the games on a working N64, but they went and released BK on the switch, I am looking forward to them announcing BT... but imagine they took the effort to truly implementing the rest of the eggs on BT.. (eh wasted hopes) but at very least I want BT to be released! I just 100%d BK with a friend that never played the original.. so we're readyyy :O

How were you able to input all of those cheats without the saved file being erased? Mine always gets erased when I put in 3 of them.

+beastly12817 You should be able to put in the codes for the ? Eggs and Ice Key without it hurting your save data. If you check out bonus episode 2, those are the types of cheats that may lead to your game being erased.

sorry for the 3 year old reply, but basically it was a feature where you'd unlock all the stop and swap eggs and the ice key, then you'd switch the game to banjo tooie and you'd use them there. However, due to hardware limitations the 10 second timer to turn the console off, switch games, and turn it back on was reduced to 1 and was therefor made impossible. maybe one day that will change, but for now it is rendered impossible 100%.

You know what would piss me off...If Swop N Stop or whatever was allowing two consoles to do it. I had two 64s but one of them broke and if I could import via wiring then why the hell not
i entered the ice key cheat, and it did opened the wall, but when i go to BT the key is not in my items..so then i go back to BK and suprise surprise i dont have the ice key there either....what should i do? (xboxliveversion)
the ice key is still there at the cave without the wall though,,, so i dont have to enter the cheat again.....but i take it then i lose it when going to BT
+Adrian Camacho Stop 'n' Swap was never truly implemented, so it is actually impossible to trade items between Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. You can collect the Ice Key and Eggs for fun, although unfortunately they will be stuck on your Banjo-Kazooie cartridge forever.

You can find the Ice Key as an item hidden inside of Banjo-Tooie, and then use it to unlock Dragon Kazooie. You don't have to trade the Ice Key over from Banjo-Kazooie. :)

uh I tried the ice key cheat and was given a warning from Bottles that it would disable my save and prevent my score from going on the leaderboards. Did anyone get this same message when they tried to put in a cheat? This is literally the first cheat I've done and I thought this only happens with illegal cheats or if you try to do it twice P:
Hmm, all I can say is that what I say in this video applies to the N64 version of the game. Unfortunately I have not played the Xbox re-release, so I can't comment on exactly how it works, although it appears that it may be different.

Sorry for the late reply, but yes you can do it on N64 and no it won't corrupt your game. However, it's basically pointless considering they do nothing since it's currently not possible to do it in time. Then again, that may change in the future.

And in Banjo-Tooie, the mystery was revealed to be just pointless stuff and also the mystery in Stop n Swop II.
AndrewsGamesDisplay They also mentioned at the very beginning of Nuts & Bolts during the contests against Grunty's head "In line with the Banjo TRADITION. Your challenge will consist of collecting as many pointless objects as possible"
(Notes weren't that pointless as they unlocked doors to the next locations and Auto-fill resources like gold/red feathers, etc.
Jiggies weren't that pointless as we needed it to unlock the next level as well as defeat grunty and unlock the red honeycombs.
Mumbo Skulls are the least useful as the only last level that needed them in BKN64 was Click Clock Wood)
With this evidence i can assume that the only real 'pointless objects' are the ice keys and stop n swop eggs since they had no use for it in-game..
So theoretically if you add all these together it could potentially mean that Rare imposed players to gather all these pointless objects just for either 'bragging rights' or to theory-craft like how we are and see how the players would react to these pointless objects after all, curiosity does feed attention. Just my food for thought though. Great video! :)
That comment about pointless objects shows just how little respect they had for the players who were truly waiting for real Banjo-Kazooie 3, as there was nothing wrong or pointless about the objects that needed to be collected in the original two games. If only companies would smarten up and realize that 3D platformers aren't as dead as they for some reason think, although thankfully we now have Yooka-Laylee to look forward to!

You shouldn't encounter that message if you are entering the codes for the Stop n Swop Egg or the Ice Key. If you enter three of the game changing codes from my other video, she will delete your save file. Check this video out for more information:

Corbin Stevens Modify an N64? I'm not sure how you would go about doing that, although it probably wouldn't work as I believe that the Stop 'n' Swop functionality has been removed from the game.

They do nothing, but it's still fun to collect them. It's like asking why people enjoy collecting Xbox achievements or PSN trophies, they don't really do anything either, but it's still fun. :P
AndrewsGamesDisplay Actually it was further implemented in Xbox version. Except it had the effect with nuts and bolts unlike 64. For example, I've heard Kazooie turns into dragon from ice key. Just search dragon kazooie for that. But the eggs unlock moves and abilities that help you in tooie
