A nice fishing trip gary ,Nice size mackerel TRY a single hook on your spinner only just found your site i will wacthing your vids through the summer liverpool
Brand new to the sport (first time I cast a rod was last weekend) I'm from just down from south Shields. Would be cool to get some tips/hints and maybe a heads-up on some good spinning spots
Welcome to the sport, I've got a few spinning videos on my channel around some local marks. The piers are canny good for spinning and the little beach at shields.
Nice one Gary - lovely Mackerel! Rather you than me on that Paddleboard - I can't swim and sure as hell I'd fall off! I've got one of those Baitcasting reels too - couldn't get on with it, loads of bird's nests, so it got stowed in the box Labelled "Ornamental fishing tackle"! Stay safe & well, Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍
Thanks, dave. I know what you mean about the reel it was a bit strange to use i should have had a little bit of practice with it first. I had a few nests as well, haha. Stay safe mate. 👍
Great video! I’ve got a decathlon inflatable Kayak. I’ve just used it in Norway on a quite fjord to catch cod on a little spinning rod. Was ace fun! Had some amazing fishing in general in Norway, definitely try it! I was wondering where I could I could give it a shot in the NE as the the mother lives near by. Now I know!
This is a question rather than a comment. I used to be a freshwater angler. A couple of years ago I developed a rare liver disease which affects what I ca and can't do (due to extreme fatigue). I live 3 minutes away from Hebburn church walk and I watched one of your older videos about micro lure fishing near the customs house at shields and wondered would that work at Hebburn as there are benches for when I need to sit (plus I have my small spinning rod handy) any advice would be very helpful
@Garywood it's the little beach on the north side of the estuary, tiny way upriver of the black middens. Are the mackerel like everywhere in the estuary? Great video btw. Never heard of mackerel in estuaries till now
I’m a new follower I’m taking my daughter fishing for her first time we are heading up near holy island and are going to try a bit of spinning next week do you have any tips I’m no expert and would like her to catch one any help is much appreciated thanks
Hi, I haven't fished up there before, but any shiny silver metal lure works well for mackerel, pollock, and cole fish around here. Try to cover as much water as you can casting in all different directions and distances. Also, try different depths as well as fishing as close to the bottom as you can get without getting snagged. Mix up your retrieve. Reeling in slow and fast to see what speed they will take on the day. Good luck. I hope you's catch.
Well done. Great fun. 👍🐟🐟
Thank you 👍
Hi Gary well that was a different approach to catch some mackerel well done mate , tight lines

Thanks, John. Norway is on my bucket list. It's looks amazing over there. Yeah, give it a try in shields. There's still plenty of fish about.
Worth it for the peace Gary,. Can't get moved on the pier at the minute. Also saves wearing a crash helmet 😂

Yes, it should work there with the flattys and codling if not there, then just along from there at Hebburn marina between the jetty and the boats.
What could possibly go wrong lol
Is it worth spinning from the old low lights (north side) this week or will the water be too cloudy
I'm not sure where that is. I mainly fish the South side of the river.

@hesalovelybuoy5944 yes, it's worth a shot they might pass by there aswell.
might have to invest in a little paddle board...might get some peace when iam spinning that way haha
Go for it they are good fun haha
Down here now no luck 2 crabs 😢 any pointers or is it a case if they there they there mate
It's usually better there at low water and first and last light. I think through the day they are a bit further out.
@@fishingintheukgarywood ok mate thank you
Would it be worth a shot if I headed down now mate
It's worth a shot if not there, there should be some about at the start of the pier.
Are you down mate
