Absolutely no hate to Rachel or what she said but I just wanted to leave a little comment for anyone watching this video who is sick or struggling with mental health, if you can’t shower everyday, that is ok and valid. I personally struggle with a lot of health issues and sometimes showering feels as hard running a marathon or climbing a mountain. If it’s too hard sometimes, that is ok. We all just do the best we can and if your best is literally just getting out of bed or changing clothes, that’s amazing and I’m so proud of you. We’re all just trying to get through the day and sometimes showering is just not that important when your fighting for your life. Again, this is not hate towards Rachel, people who have never experienced this just don’t know about it but I felt the need to say something to make sure no one was feeling bad about themselves. ❤❤❤

Basic self care, which includes bathing, brushing hair, brushing teeth, changing clothes, etc are very often the things we neglect when suffering with severe depression. For those who can relate to this, know that you are not less of a person or lazy or gross. You are in survival mode and simply existing is the hardest thing you can do that day. You have your tribe out here who knows and suffers this way just as you do. You are still a good person and always were, worthy of love, and worthy of the grace you need to get through this difficult time.
For those who try to shame you or make you feel ashamed, i hope they never themselves get to a point in their life that they suffer the same. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. However if they ever do, there will be those of us out here that understands and will support you.

@@laurawithnou I’m a fall risk and have fallen out of the bathtub three or four times. I’ve broken cabinet doors etc. thankfully no shower glass doors. But there is not shame. The are bird baths I do. Wipes to use. Etc. body sprays to help. I’m always keeping up appearances.

Another thing….it’s not always good for a person to shower every single day. I’m with you on clean, brush your teeth and so forth. But even if you’re not affected by current mental health struggles or other things that make showering daily a necessity….it’s ok to not shower every single day. It is not in the best interest of some skin types and conditions. It depends on where you live and what you do…..so many variables.
AND, if you are struggling with mental health, life just being exhausting….it’s also ok. Hygiene is not one size fits all, it’s not a you must….just be and that’s enough.

Dear Rachel, I struggled with anorexia and bulimia for over 12 years, due to this my teeth have been so damaged rotted and or Fallen out etc, no matter how much you brush if your diet is not up to scratch your teeth suffer. I have lost so much self confidence due to this , what's heart breaking is dentist are so exspensive and i simply cant afford to do it all at once its going to take years to fix all the damage. I know I will certainly need dentures no jokes and I am only 30 years old. When covid broke out I remember thinking in my unwell brain " thank God because now I have a mask to hide behind and nobody could see my mouth" when I talk about this It brings me to tears that illness lowered my self confidence this much even covid and madk wearing had a bright side. I'm %100 gay and my biggest fear about dating other girls is them saying gross do you not look after your self? do you not have self hygiene? how can I possibly explain that my illness completely ruined my body, my teeth, my hair my skin and so much more its permnent and I just want to cry 😢. I feel I have worked so hard to recover and yet I feel so scared of judgement about the permanent damage my illness caused as girls are very very much body focused even if they are not conscious of it and often a very bluntly honest.

First off, I'm so very sorry that you are struggling with these physical effects and lowered self confidence. That said, I am SO THANKFUL that you are still here with us after battling two extremely serious eating disorders for so long. That is a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT! I know that the physical effects of the EDs are daunting but please know that you have NOTHING to be ashamed about. Kick any shame that might be lingering to the curb where it belongs! You are a fighter. My suggestion as you move forward would be to try to view these effects as battle scars while you continue to work on becoming healthier, both mentally and physically. Part of getting healthier is realizing that you are SO much more than these things that are currently rattling your self confidence. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND WORTHY AT THIS VERY MOMENT. Please work on accepting those facts before you delve into the dating world. Right now, your self-esteem needs boosting. I am confident that you are likely critiquing yourself way more harshly than most people out in the world ever would. I know that this is incredibly difficult to do but try to not put so much pressure on yourself to 'fix' everything in order to feel good about yourself. You are worthy of love right now, exactly as you are. Work on loving yourself....and forgiving yourself if need be (I don't want to make assumptions but I know from my own experience with EDs that it is possible to carry around guilt, shame and self-blame for having engaged in unhealthy behaviours). While you certainly don't owe anyone any explanations, if you want to share your story with others, I strongly encourage that you do so when you are ready. OWN YOUR JOURNEY, the good and the not-so-good. Don't let any residual shame hold you back. You are strong, resilient and brave. You are a fighter. Anyone that would judge you for having battled serious illness is not likely someone you'd want to be around anyway. Maybe start out sharing more about your journey with those that you already know & trust before moving on to less familiar peeps. Anyone that would judge you for having effects from illnesses is not someone that you'd likely want to be around anyway, so no real loss there. Just know that there are plenty of people in this world that will not judge you and will love you unconditionally, myself included 😁. So please don't give up hope and don't write peeps off just yet. Even if you are not able to see it quite just yet, your future is BRIGHT... and that brightness is not dependent on any physical attributes PERIOD. You are a TRUE BLESSING in this world & YOU ARE LOVED. Never forget it. Take extra good care friend & God bless ❤.

Gay guy here - Girl, same, my teeth are awful. However, if someone loves you for you and you're open to explaining (not that you have to) people understand. My teeth tell my story and my story is shared by so many people, not necessarily teeth-wise - but the struggle and pain. I'm healing on the inside and i accept i can't heal the outside (I live pay cheque to pay cheque, so i legit cannot afford it, maybe one day.... one faaaaar away day XD). I'm not ashamed, i'm strong. I'm like a rock that fell from a cliff-face; I've fell, i've rolled, i've been chipped and reduced.... but honey - we're still here and the little chips and cracks have shaped me. I'm being sculpted accidently by the impact of my fall and slowly, but surely, i'm losing the dirt i picked up on my roll down the cliff. When we're finished we're going to be beautiful shiny little pebbles, we just gotta keep going :) (FYI - covid masks were/are a godsend haha) x

I really struggled with this podcast I think maybe because Rachel had no one physically there to bounce off, her tangent did not get interrupted, slightly filtered or redirected to come across in a more understanding and empathetic way ? Often when its a two way coversation these descrepancies are more likely to be picked up on by the other person . I'm not mad or upset about it, I'm sure her intention was to be kind but context is really important when we talk about topics such as these because there's a massive difference between a slob and someone who is struggling mentally and physically .I do like Rachel and her channel I think this just wasn't well thought through ...

    • @LM-mr3fd

@@heidijanssen4552 Great points. I agree...another person being involved in the discussion often helps to keep things on from going off in not-so-great directions. They can sort of check and 'correct' each other as the conversations unfold. I, too, don't think that Rachel would want to be unkind or come off as disrespectful towards others. I'm hoping that if she isn't already aware that she will become aware of how she came across in this particular podcast so that she can do better moving forward if she ever does a solo podcast. That is all any of us can really do after all...just try to learn from our mistakes and try to be better. Rachel seems like someone who genuinely cares enough to want to be made aware so that she can do better and be better. Take good care Heidi ❤.

Commenting to spread awareness about late bloomers. For a lot of us it truly isn’t a hygiene or “getting out there” thing. Most late bloomers have good hygiene, wonderful personalities, and are on lots of dating apps and actively trying to date. Despite our best efforts, it just hasn’t happened for us like it has for most everyone else in the world. Personally, I’ve been on several dating apps for years and have only had a handful of matches and none have led to dates. Most were either dry or unmatched as soon as we matched. I think I have a good personality, good hygiene, and I’m involved in enough where you’d think I should be able to find someone, but despite my best efforts only 2(?) people have ever had a crush on me (I’m in my 20s btw). So I can’t tell you why I and other late bloomers have not been pursued but I can tell you that it messes with our heads and we’ve gone through everything about us trying to figure out if there’s something everyone else sees that we don’t which makes us so undesirable.

Rachel, I think it’s important to realize that “having a crush” on your therapist is common. It’s not likely it’s actually a crush on the therapist as much as it is transference. Just tell your therapist how you feel. They are trained to handle that.

About these crushes, they aren't that easy to get over. As with most things in life it's easier said than done. I fall in love with straight women all the time (but I do live in a conservative state with majority of straight people) and I too have had crushes on people who who take care of my health either physical or mental. It's completely normal especially for lesbians. I know many people will say "just tell them you have a crush on them." But if you have a crush on someone who is taking care of your physical or mental health and you genuinely have a good professional relationship with them, I wouldn't tell them how you feel. Specifically I wouldn't say anything if it isn't hindering your ability to speak openly with them. I wouldn't want to ruin that relationship with them nor would I want to start the process again of finding a good therapist or whoever to take care of me. Just know the crush will fade, it might take a few months or even a few years, but with time it will fade. Just let it be.
