Errol Flynn was the best actor of his generation, and he is my favourite actor of all times.
This video just happened to pop up on my TH-cam Home page. Since I've seen many Errol Flynn films, I decided to watch it and found it interesting. I guess you have to appreciate the Golden Age of Hollywood to enjoy these movies of some of these Great Stars. And many of Errol Flynn movies have sweeping musical scores that are a pleasure to hear. And notwithstanding bloodless swordfighting, but to me old films that are played regularly on TCM can have a certain kind of charm to them. Especially if you're in the right mood. In his movie "They Died with their Boots On", with Flynn portraying General George Armstrong Custer, his final parting scene with Olivia de Havilland was quite moving. Many of his quiet understated scenes in his movies were his finest acting moments. This all being said Ms. Hartman, and you didn’t state whether you've ever even seen or enjoy a movie or TV show before the 1960's "The Big Valley", you looked bored with it all. And I believe that was your guest's book? Didn’t say much about it except that you really enjoyed using it to write on because it had a good hardcover. If I was Mr. Florczak, I'd feel a liitle down. But I still liked the subject matter. At a point in time in America, Errol Flynn was the King of Warner Brothers. And his movies are still played on television and in a way, he still lives on long after his passing. And you know what? That would be kind of nice. Many people of today know who John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Bette Davis, or Marilyn Monroe were. But Errol Flynn seems forgotten. Maybe because of his character and personal life, some people may want nothing to do with him. And many books after his death have come out with unsubstantiated accusations where he can't come back and personally refute them. Yet, he was one of a kind. And he led a life of living like no other. And in fact, there's probably never been more movies or books made about another actor ever than Errol Flynn. Except maybe Marilyn Monroe. And Mr. Florczak is right. Errol Flynn's autobiography "My Wicked Wicked Ways" is one of the most entertaining books you could ever read. And what made it so cool to me was for about the first third of his book, he's adventuring around in the jungles or on the seas not knowing what to do with his life except have fun and adventure. And then it's like when you turn the next page, he's all of a sudden a Hollywood Superstar. That quick. Amazing and just Incredible.

Have been a lifelong fan of Flynn. Have been to the hospital he was born in and his childhood homes in Hobart. The man was a rockstar. He crammed four lives into his 50 years.
Well, I really, truly enjoyed this. I am currently working my way through Robert's book (about halfway through!) - basically just absorbing all I can about Errol from books, his filmography, documentaries, etc. Robert's comment, the more you know about Errol the more you want to know, is one I can attest to. I loved Robin Hood as a little girl, but it's only been within the past few months that I've dived deep into who Errol was as man. Thank you for this, Julie! :) All the best!
Well done, Julie! Probably the most thoughtful and personal talk about Erroll Flynn I've seen. The way Mr. Florczak and you wove through Flynn's life made real and relatable, Not just a list of events and details.
Sad that what was in his heart of hearts about having a family… didn't come about-that he wasn't willing to step away from the things preventing that.
Soberly, we all have to make choices; and always, to strive after one thing, something else must be put aside. Hard part is to have the heart AND determination to do what's the best in long run.

Very interesting topic and I must say I was so surprised to see who the show was about as I too was an Errol Flynn fan growing up. In fact I considered him to be my favorite actor although I didn’t see all of his movies. Thank you for having your guest on your show who is interesting as well.

Julie, I see in your eyes that you are less than impressed. Please read Flynn's "My Wicked, Wicked Ways". It is funny, interesting and after you read it, you WILL be fascinated with the life if Errol Flynn.
The man was absolutely mesmerizing;and yet I can't help feeling he was so self destructive. He gave himself to living life with complete abandon. No wonder he told actress Alexis Smith he was not interested in living the other half of his life.
Errol Flynn was an extension of Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. and John Barrymore in film. Flynn 's life parallels Barrymore's and they were great friends too. Actually Flynn played him in "Too Much Too Soon", and it's pretty sad to watch. No matter what people think technology and US policies around the world haven't been good for humanity - a lot of freedom has been removed. Flynn needed a passport and he could go anywhere. He was an intellectual romantic. He was also a man that knew he wouldn't live long. He was athletic but had a serious heart condition.

The reason he didn't return to the Australian region was because he was wanted on suspicious of jewellery theft from a wealthy hostess.
And yes he was a drug addict.
Flynn was truly unique. Would of loved some life advice from him

I have that book. It's brilliant. I plan to visit all of Errol's childhood homes (I've already visited his grave). This interview was weird though ("apparently a renowned movie star"??).
It must have been very challenging for him to try and have an intelligent conversation with her. Hats off to him 👍👍

This interview itself was almost as interesting as the subject.
The alcohol and drugs went in excess after the trial and after the last back injury.... mid 40s till the end...

I liked Earl Flynn but I would not want to be him his drinking did him in the end dying at only 50 years even tho his body was that of a seventy year old.
He didn’t drink much during the height of his career
@@Frankaziza1 Yea sure you better research that again he was a drinker and not beer but the hard liquor.
I know his autobiography is filled with some tales, but he doesn’t hide is drinking in it. Yet, he does make it clear that he wasn’t drinking much in the thirties and early forties. By the time he was living in Italy he carried a briefcase with him at all times. The only thing in it was alcohol and two glasses. He almost got hooked on opium when he was young but a friend helped him at a very early stage with that drug. I never said he didn’t have a drink, he just wasn’t a huge drinker from Captain Blood thru Gentleman Jim.
The is my first viewing of this host’s work. Unfortunately, I found her ill informed, self-absorbed, a bit rude to her guest, impatient, and adding nothing really to the conversation, especially when she started waxing on about societal norms and trends. She spent too much time wishing the world was still largely uncivilized or engaged in a world war so she can find some excitement and meaning in her everyday life. Millions upon millions died so we can live safe lives, in cul de sacs, in wonderful freedom. Her whole side of the conversation was boring and whiny. All I tuned in for was to find out about Errol Flynn, and how he got to be so damn good looking.
Well said. You'd think she would have at least familiarized herself with Flynn ahead of the "interview".
She was talking rather reckless to this gentleman.
She implied the author was kinda sweet on Errol Flynn.
A tad too frisky.
There are far better documentaries on Errol.
