Hey! I've been loving your MSW playlist. Just a quick note since you mentioned the title... It's a rather cruel irony because the cop (the sole person you should be able to trust in this situation if you're white upper-crust like they all are) turns out to be a phony and the murderer all along. It's like if the bear in the fairytale reassured the sisters that he just wanted a warm place to sleep, they let him in, and he ate them both for dinner.

This episode has my favourite line from any Murder She Wrote episode: "Well, on the surface, it seems like we're looking for a left-handed homicidal maniac."
Whenever I visited my nana, she seemed to always be watching a repeat of Murder, She Wrote. It holds a soft spot in my heart for this, especially right now as it's been seven years since her death. I haven't watched an episode in all that time but your commentary is sending me back.
Many years ago, my grandmother and I always watched the show in the afternoon and tried to find out who the killer was in each chapter. Generally it was I who found out before her, but it was hilarious to see us talk about who the killer could be and make deductions. My grandmother is no longer among us, but those good memories accompany me even today and your videos help me remember some of those moments. Thanks and keep it up, you do great
Regarding the reveal here, they did give us the information that Gunar had had an affair with a married woman whose husband was mobster-ish, and had made that guy made. And they presented it in a way so as to make it feel like background information that we'd assume WOULDN'T be important, and then it was. And I have to say, there are a few instances on this show where a policeman seems almost TOO eager to have Jessica's collaboration...and he turns out to be not legit. So, anytime there's a policeman she doesn't know well, or who is there too coincidentally, it can be a tip-off. On the other hand, in the later seasons, and in New York especially, some of the very real cops do absolutely idolize Jessica and seek out her help / tutoring.
Omg, when Roses made the joke that everyone should introduce themselves by agressively stating their profession I'm like "I'm disabled and can't work, wtf do I say?" This! This is what I should say.
I was hoping for a Spaceballs joke concerning him. Since he and the other guy are wearing the same style of sweater how about, "They've gone to plaid!"
@@EveryDayALittleDeath same occupation, same question. I used to tell people "I'm a cat sitter" (technically true), but I've started debating telling people joke jobs like "I'm a ghost writer, BOO," or "I'm a competitive argyle sweater designer," or "I extract dinosaur DNA from amber for replication." The trick would be having a different occupation the next time the same person asks, or, bonus, someone asks your occupation again while you're standing with someone you just told. It'll be lovely once disability is normalized to the point that you can move to the next topic other than employment without people dragging you right back and asking again, and saying "I don't have a job, I'm disabled" doesn't just murder the entire conversation.
@@moralityisnotsubjective5 I know IMDB says it's the same guy, but he looks absolutely nothing like Colonel Sandurz, and considering this episode was released in 1988, only one year after Spaceballs, it's a bit surprising.
Not gonna lie "WWJD" as in "What Would Jessica Do" is one of my life mantras, not because I'm trying to solve murder mysteries, but because I love how she is able to deal with all sorts of crazy characters while maintaining her non-judgmental, well mannered composure. Who else does that?
I love this one! Murder mystery confession: when it gets snowy where I am, I watch a double bill of this episode and a Hart to Hart that also takes place at a ski resort (Downhill to Death, S1E16). Yay, Roses!
That camerawork from 11:13 is amazing. How close the camera is huddled behind the character. It really created dread and sold the impression that something bad is about to discovered in that room.
Yes, we need a buddy cop series with a gynecologist.... a gynecologist with terrible puns!!! -Im going to shine some light on this. -Things are getting personal. -Something smells fishy to me.... -I'm making your business my business!
What makes the gynecologist character in this episode even more bizarre is that he's played by George Wyner, the same actor who played that pervy dentist in an episode of the Golden Girls a couple of years later after this episode of Murder, She Wrote.
Love these videos! My suggestion for a possible future one: "Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall", the two-part ending to Season 5 (it really is the best season). This one has always stood out to me because we see such a different dynamic to Seth and Jessica's friendship, when he confronts her about what's essentially burnout. Also... then he almost DIES.
I think "Mirror Mirror..." was supposed to be the last ever MSW episode, which is why it's different in feel to other episodes. But then they persuaded Angela to come back, but as she'd agreed to other projects, season six had all those dull narrated episodes... 🙃

Murder She Wrote did very well for CBS for over a decade. Even got 4 made for TV films and 2 video games. Angela Lansbury got to live to 96 years old until she died in 2022. This was a good series to watch after 60 Minutes. This was Pat Summerall would say over and over after the game each week saying 60 Minutes then Murder She Wrote.

Hey Roses, love your Murder, She Wrote recaps. I have three episode suggestions. The first two are from the same season as Snow White, Blood Red. In fact they are the two episodes that come right after: Coal Miner's Slaughter and Wearing of the Green. The first has an early appearance of Megan Mulally (aka Karen Walker for all those Will and Grace fans out there). The second deals in the world of jewels and features Lucie Arnaz (aka Lucy and Desi's daughter) as the cop. The third episode is from Season 7 called Family Doctor. In it, Seth is forced to operate on a mobster and is accused by the sons of being the hitman hired to kill said mobster. It's all up to Jessica to straighten it all out! I'd love to hear your takes on these great episodes. Keep up the great work!
I don’t think I’ll ever watch an episode of MSW as it’s not my type of show, but Roses’s take on them makes them fun. Well worth my Patreon dollars. 10/10, would Patreon again.
"Snow White, Rose Red" is the title of a story in Grimm's Fairytales, FYI! It's a clever title if you know the reference, but the reference is kind of obscure.
No word of a lie, I’ve been streaming this entire MSW playlist repeatedly at work for the last week and can’t watch my own DVD collection now without hearing your hilarious commentary in my head. I became a patron for the selfish reason that I want you to review all 260-plus episodes so I can watch my DVDs along with your videos. And I’ll pay extra for a Failed Relationships of Grady Fletcher bonus episode. Just sayin’. ;)
“Little John from Robinhood Men in Tights” Uuuuum... I think you mean: the dad from Good Luck Charlie. (The joke is that’s where I exclusively know him from.)
Showing my age, but there used to be a children's story called "Snow white, Rose Red". Hence the reference to the title of this episode. Love your stuff!
Snow White Rose Red is a play on the original fairy tale. In the original story there were 2 stories name Snow White and Rose Red. Rose has been forgotten by most mainstream stories sadly.
Your videos take me back to those mid-90’s sick days, sitting on the couch watching whatever drama my mom had on after All My Children, waiting for my turn to watch Arthur or at least The Price is Right. It’s a cozy safe feeling, I guess.
I hope there comes a time in which this series of reviews has as many episodes as Murder, She Wrote. Videos on TV shows or even movies isn't something I watch at all usually, but these are always so great that I've already blown through all of them! So in short, thanks for making them, hope there's plenty more coming our way!
It's been months but the trope of killing more than the intended target exists for a reason. It's even seen in real life killers. A targeted, single death leads to a small pool of suspects, especially those who have reasons for killing them that can be determined by auditing personal connections. But if more murders happen, you have to audit each one, find some kind of Venn overlap that can throw things wildly out of perspective, and also have no connection to the killer per se. If the murder appears to be the result of a series of killings it's not especial enough to warrant focused attention, and indeed will forcibly split focus as all the crimes must be solved at once, leading to mistakes.
"Watch out for the yeti!" Hahaha. Ski-Free Yeti. I remember that old game. It was one of the games on a list of programs on my grandma's then-working, never-connected-to-net computer, alongside Chip's Challenge and the Flying Toasters screensaver. And Rat Race (as in, a randomized race between some AI rats on a screen). I... think that's all we played as her grandkids on that. But wow, I liked this series and I STILL missed a lot.
My mom is 82, and she knows "Murder, She Wrote" like I know "Star Trek". I watched a lot with her during the first run, and always enjoyed it. (Back then, and to this day, she called it a "light murder" show). I told her a couple of months ago about your channel, and I think I convinced her to actually check out TH-cam on her tablet. She asked if you were old, and I said, 'Well, I know she's over thirty!" and still likes the show! I'm 49, and still watch from time to time,
Haha you have such good commentary, wit and humor - I love it! In this ridiculous ski & crossbow murder scene, let's not forget that we see the crossbow on the skier's far-right as he's coming down hill but then the arrow hits him on his left side and from his left side. Which means the arrow took a drastic L shape to hit him. Excellent writing, team!
Ever since watching your videos of this show, I've been watching the show again. I never really gave it a chance when I was younger, but now I love it!
Weird thought when watching this, as someone who's currently in a bushfire prone area frequently filled with suffocating smoke - someone should write a closed circle about bushfires. Several people can't get out of their towns and can't get phone reception and even when it comes to my city, yesterday most of the ways out of the city were blocked on and off, planes couldn't take off or land and the smoke was so thick nobody could leave the house without masks. Doesn't have the cosiness of a snowstorm though, just a whole bunch of blegh. Helps to distract myself with something fun and snowy though! Love the that time on episodes despite never having seen murder she wrote, they're always a delight.
It's not a bad idea, but there is a crucial difference between a snowstorm and a wildfire. With a snowstorm, there is nothing really to worry about besides waiting it out, assuming you have a proper shelter. With a wildfire, the fire itself can spread to the safe area where the closed circle takes place. A writer would need to explain how the safe area is both cut off but not threatened, and indulging that setting explanation can distract from the thrust of the story (unless that explanation is then leveraged in another way by the main plot, using what seems like setting exposition to set up a Chekhov's crossbow...er, gun).
@@roguishpaladin I could see it working if the writer used the wildfire as an extra stake in the story - they need to find out X in order to solve Y, and they need to solve Y before they can leave the area, where the fire is closing in fast...
The Siamese Twin Mystery by Ellery Queen takes place during a wildfire. A group of people end up trapped in a large house in the mountains. Murder ensues of course.
I live that you put captions on this, can you do the hard of hearing one extra favor? Put the things you dont say vocally into brackets. I'm low hearing and dyslexic and sometimes it jumbles me up, but the commentary is still funny!!!
Definitely one of my favorites! I've been watching through the whole series of Murder, She Wrote (it's a pretty good background show) and I just hit one that. Ight be a fun review: S8E12 - The Witch's Curse. It's got community theater! Insurance fraud! Ghosts(?)! Assumed witchcraft! And it's actually set in Cabot Cove (a lot of the later seasons are not)..
I love your laugh about the crossbow death, it's just so perfectly capturing the morbid humor of the show. At least, I hope it's funny on purpose. Some of the deaths on this show are so damn camp.
Watching this 7 AM while having my coffee is really relaxing Your voice, Rose, is so good, you should read a book audio(what's that called?) or do a podcaaaast
Loved the episode, but you made my eye twitch every time you referred to a bolt as an arrow 🤣 And, incidentally, a corpse would "bleed" when shot if it's fresh. No the heart wont pump out blood obviously, but you've got quite a lot of blood just floating around, enough to at least leak out and stain a jacket. Well, in most cases anyway. 🤔 the cold weather might actually have prevented that.
If you include slasher films, then yes, there's dozens. "And then there were none" doesn't take place at a ski lodge, it's an island vacation house. Although perhaps one of the many adaptations moved the action to an isolated ski lodge?
I remember how much we used to laugh about it with my grand-mère it is so dangerous to be around JB Fletcher ! The amount of people dying around her, I think we all thought about the fact that she could be the one killing all these people and that she's living in a sort of fantasy since her husband died.
I love ski lodge themes, especially 80s ones with all the great fashion. The Garfield and Friends episode "Break-a-Leg" does a great job with it too, with the sweaters and puffy 80s skisuits. I'm also a big fan of the 'closed circle' trope used for mysteries. And a ski lodge or cabin locked down due to a storm, is 'almost' better than being stuck on a train, with having to find the killer fast and having no outside interference. One of my first murder mystery dinner parties was one of those box kits and it was called the 'Icicle Twist'. Getting to pull out my best 80s style sweater while host a party themed at being at a ski lodge was so much fun. I think you would enjoy that mystery dinner. Anyhow, thanks for reviewing this one, I enjoyed it for many reasons; as you can tell. Thank you Roses!
8:01 Remember, in the only case of poisoned Halloween candy, while the father only targeted his own kids, he'd given poisoned candy to other kids to throw people off his tracks (fortunately nobody else ate any), so 'killing more people to divert suspicion' is a pretty realistic trope.
Just watched this episode. It's very good. It's got a lot of recognizable faces: Emma Samms (Dynasty, General Hospital), Jamie Rose (Falcon Crest), and Ronnie Clair Edwards (The Waltons). It has good twists and turns and I loved it!

I called my grandmother, Nana, too.. and she, too, loved MSW. As does my mom. And me..
Your grandmother let you figure it out first. Grandmas are rad like that.
That’s a beautiful memory
Sus amogus
My grandmother would have loved among us lol
“The Corpse Flew First Class” is another great episode, so many plot twists!
I didn't know the dad from Good Luck Charlie was in Robin Hood: Men In Tights!
I knew I recognized him!
he also played Thor in an 80s Hulk movie
I was looking in the comments specifically to see if anyone mentioned this. I thought it looked like him, but wasn’t sure.
I recognized him from The Hughleys, he's in so many things.
THAT'S where I recognized him from!!! Gah! It was driving me crazy. Thank you!
Dangit. At 9:14 I accidentally refer to the coach as Gunnar. Twice. My bad.
"I'm a gynecologist!"
AND I'M JAVERT!!!
...Yes, gynecologist guy is a character in Le Mis now.
Do not forget my name
Do not forget me
OBGYN
Hey that scans!
Me too!
I love this one! Murder mystery confession: when it gets snowy where I am, I watch a double bill of this episode and a Hart to Hart that also takes place at a ski resort (Downhill to Death, S1E16). Yay, Roses!
Yessss to Hart to Hart!
Snowed-in episodes of murder mysteries are always so cozy, I really enjoyed the ones in Case Closed/Detective Conan.
Treena Macdonald Great episodes!
Treena Macdonald Lol that’s the one with Juliet Mills and the cheating husband, right?
"Best line in a Murder She Wrote episode..."
I SO thought this was gonna be "I'm a gynecologist" 😂
If you have seen the Perfect Strangers episode where that actor plays a bomber, you might have thought that guy would be the murderer here.
The actor who played Guner also played bob Duncan on good luck Charlie
Downtown J ...and Thor on an 80s Justice League pilot
Robert Keil oh yea i remember that lol
eric allan kramer, total stud look at that hair....he use to have
@@RobertKeilOK u mean the incredible hulk returns tv movie he did play a kryptonian in lois and clark superman though
I KNEW I RECOGNISED HIM FROM SOMEWHERE!
That camerawork from 11:13 is amazing. How close the camera is huddled behind the character. It really created dread and sold the impression that something bad is about to discovered in that room.
"Remember perms?"
[sobbing] I do. I do remember.
I remember the smell...
So does my mom. My grandma made her get one for her wedding. Lemme tell ya, she was not happy.
My mom looked so ridiculous with a perm on her graduation
The hair this lol like you stuck you finger in a lightsocket? Yeah.
The worst mistake me and my mom both made.
It made my grandmother so happy when I told her there was a TH-camr who covers Murder, She Wrote.
that guy isn't even 30 years old yet? oof, he is not aging well
29 going on 60
37 yet pushing 74
He aged like goat cheese 😂
Love these videos! My suggestion for a possible future one:
"Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall", the two-part ending to Season 5 (it really is the best season). This one has always stood out to me because we see such a different dynamic to Seth and Jessica's friendship, when he confronts her about what's essentially burnout. Also... then he almost DIES.
Yes, a very good and twisted episode.
I think "Mirror Mirror..." was supposed to be the last ever MSW episode, which is why it's different in feel to other episodes. But then they persuaded Angela to come back, but as she'd agreed to other projects, season six had all those dull narrated episodes... 🙃
Is that the one where he eats he poisoned apple?
Love that one, Jean Simmons is awesome...as always!
YES! Great suggestion, and a 2-parter. Plus Ken Howard is in it (one of several), and I love him (I have always loved old people tv shows 🤣).
1:37 That’s Bob Duncan (Real name, Eric Kramer) from good luck Charlie I loved him. He was like one of the best Disney Channel dad’s right next to Jerry from wizards of Waverly place also, he’s really nice on social media. 💕🖤(he just gave/gives really nice dad vibes in the show and on his social media he also ended up being a dilf)
"Watch out for the yeti, now." I remember that skiing game where the monster/yeti came running and ate the skier at the end! Oh man, great memories - and awesome video, as always!
Ski Free! I remember it too. I always had fun setting the trees on fire.
The gynecologist is the most qualified to inspect bloody holes
Ew.
Also, am I the only one who thinks that a male gynaecologist makes absolutely no sense?
jesus tapdancing christ, I hate modern people.
@@QJ89 probably. That's kinda like saying a human doctor for dogs makes no sense. You don't have to personally have the physiology in order to work on it.
In fact, the few women in my life with which the subject's come up have generally had better experiences with male gynos. (And they didn't mean it jokingly)
😭😭 this is the worst best comment
About two weeks ago I was sick and was up early and was flicking through the tv to see if there was anything good on and I saw that Murder She Wrote was on and after watching you cover some of the episodes I decided to give it a watch and I’m now heavily invested in it and it’s becoming one of my favorite shows
I am too!!! I have been binging them a lot lately!
Awesome, didnt know it was still getting play.
*"Confronts the storm of plastic bag bits"* Gosh I love this Channel.
Is there any episode of MSW where the murderer tries to kill Jessica? If you want to get away with murder in Cabot Cove it'd seem like that's a must.
Yes, I believe there are a few.
Quite a few IIRC, usually at the end. There's even one where someone tries to frame HER!
In the final episode it is revealed that she was doing all of the killings, framing hundreds as she went.....
@@kommissar.murphy I always suspected this ... I wasn't scared of monstets as a child Jessica Fletcher terrified me
I remember one where Sam Gamgee's dad tries to off her. I don't mean The Gaffer, I mean Gomez Addams.

What another fun episode Roses. I hope your able to review season 2’s “If a body meet a body”. A intriguing mystery with the wrong body in a casket and Jessica actively trying not to get involved.
5:49, I always appreciate when they have a guy who can actually play guitar on screen. I can't even hear the actual audio but I can tell he's actually pushing down the strings and making real chord shapes. It's the little details that really stick out and half the time people just dont even try to pretend
Jess tearing it up on the piste and looking like a wintery snacc while doing so, is there nothing this magnificent woman cannot do?

YES, I like you and that's why I became a Patreon. Your comments make me laugh. That was just another great cover of yours. Thank you!
I don’t think I’ll ever watch an episode of MSW as it’s not my type of show, but Roses’s take on them makes them fun. Well worth my Patreon dollars. 10/10, would Patreon again.
"I'm a gynecologist" and then the episode goes a much different direction.

Just sayin’. ;)
“Little John from Robinhood Men in Tights”
Uuuuum... I think you mean: the dad from Good Luck Charlie.
(The joke is that’s where I exclusively know him from.)
Just discovered your channel in '23 and as an '80's teen am binge watching!! AND I (a woman) own that rather pricey Nordic sweater 🙊.

Showing my age, but there used to be a children's story called "Snow white, Rose Red". Hence the reference to the title of this episode. Love your stuff!
“Building up my deltoids, Papa bear,” shirts when?
I'd buy it. Also maybe a pencil pouch
11:52 ALSO BOB FROM GOOD LUCK CHARLIE!!!
2:28 "Once you turn 30 you die." That is literally a synopsis of the plot of Logan's Run, you know.
I think the episode “A Fashionable Way to Die” is a really good one and you should definitely check it out. I also been hoping that you review it😄
I just watch it on Amazon Prime. Boy!!! What a doozy. The best of 80's fashion: big bows, sequins, feathered bangs, lame, shoulder pads.
I hope there comes a time in which this series of reviews has as many episodes as Murder, She Wrote. Videos on TV shows or even movies isn't something I watch at all usually, but these are always so great that I've already blown through all of them! So in short, thanks for making them, hope there's plenty more coming our way!
“As everyone knows, when you reach 30, _you die.”_

@@dngillikin Nice. Though in the book, which I managed to find and read it was 21. No one was going to buy that Michael York was that young I guess.
"Watch out for the yeti!"
Hahaha.
WHOOOOOAAAAA I totally forgot about that rat game until your comment! The wave of nostalgia knocked me over.
I'm 49, and still watch from time to time,
I'm 34. Might as well retire, and head off to the senior home.
"ITS A BATTLE OF THE ARGYLES" that got me laughing so hard XD
Howie Long's Firestorm.
I live that you put captions on this, can you do the hard of hearing one extra favor? Put the things you dont say vocally into brackets. I'm low hearing and dyslexic and sometimes it jumbles me up, but the commentary is still funny!!!
Ann’s hair looks like the wig Captain Hook wears in Hook except it’s red.
For real. Soon as I saw it , the first thing I said was 'holy jesus hell, that's some hair...'
Little V it’s more like a mane! Lol
I'm so thrilled that there's a channel that covers this show, that I've been loving for literally all of my life ❤
I love how you're becoming The Murder Mystery TH-camr™
Ive recently started Murder she wrote, and I'm already up to the first Grady Fletcher sighting

Crossbow kill on a mid-air skiier! Damn, that's like going in a FPS multiplayer highlight vid.
Loved the episode, but you made my eye twitch every time you referred to a bolt as an arrow 🤣
And, incidentally, a corpse would "bleed" when shot if it's fresh. No the heart wont pump out blood obviously, but you've got quite a lot of blood just floating around, enough to at least leak out and stain a jacket.
Well, in most cases anyway. 🤔 the cold weather might actually have prevented that.
"Ski Lodge murder" feels like a genre, no? I'm positive there's more than "And Then There Were None"
I believe there was also a Poirot short story which h took place in a health farm/ski lodge that was cut of by a storm.
Hart to Hart had one
If you include slasher films, then yes, there's dozens. "And then there were none" doesn't take place at a ski lodge, it's an island vacation house. Although perhaps one of the many adaptations moved the action to an isolated ski lodge?
@@HOGuru 1964 version is in the Alps
@@qmurphy8833 I did not know that. Is it worth watching?
I remember how much we used to laugh about it with my grand-mère it is so dangerous to be around JB Fletcher ! The amount of people dying around her, I think we all thought about the fact that she could be the one killing all these people and that she's living in a sort of fantasy since her husband died.
Man those Murder She Wrote footage clips are REALLY high quality.
I'm pretty sure the title is just a take on the fairy tale "Snow White and Rose Red."
8:01 Remember, in the only case of poisoned Halloween candy, while the father only targeted his own kids, he'd given poisoned candy to other kids to throw people off his tracks (fortunately nobody else ate any), so 'killing more people to divert suspicion' is a pretty realistic trope.
that amount of blood borders on Dracula: Dead and Loving it territory
