I was going to suggest some European bands, like Fleshgod Apocalypse, Septicflesh, Children of Bodom, Insomnium, Dimmu Borgir etc. Especially Fleshgod, Septicflesh and Dimmu have some amazing orchestral arrangements in some of their songs!
My favourite orchestral instrumentation bands is thhe relatively unknown Aquilus, but they do the most interest usage of orchestral elements I've heard since they are basically 50% atmospheric metal and 50% cinematic classical music. It's phenomenal but it's structured more like classical pieces of music rather than metal songs
For years I thought that Danny and Lisa were a metaphor for LSD, but not too long ago I read that in an interview Daron stated that are just two childhood neighbors of him
Daron took Serj's dada free association lyrical stuff and couldnt quite pull it off so just writes lyrics about like, ppl he knows and places he's been to lmao
These songs are so burnt into my head that I always hear the next song playing once the song you're listening to ends. I also agree that Mezmerize and Hypnotize are their best work!
31:15 Mezmerize also begins with Soldier side - intro, which is referenced also musically in Hypnotize's Soldier side! The 2 albums released in the same year bookend each other quite nicely this way
"This song is about how Daron, along with System of a Down, have become sensationally popular with their music through the last decade. Along with their popularity, comes their songs being played on RADIO stations and shooting VIDEOS for their music. Daron had an epiphany one day while watching a VIDEO of one of his childhood birthday parties. He realized he was at the party with his two best friends or closest cousins, DANNY and LISA. He has not seen them since his childhood. Along with fame comes a lot of stress and hard times, and to help with that, Daron likes to think of the good times when he was younger. THUS, the birthday party with DANNY and LISA - "THEY TAKE ME AWAY FROM THE STRANGEST PLACES, SWEET DANNY AND LISA." Danny and Lisa haven't seen Daron since childhood and have maybe since forgotten him or don't think of him that much. They probably do now, since SYSTEM has become so popular. The song says, "look at me now." or look how far I've come since our childhood days. "I'M ON THE RADIO/VIDEO!" To sum it up, System of a Down is famous now, along with fame comes stress, hard times, and strange places. In order to clear his mind, Daron likes to think of his innocent childhood with his pals Danny and Lisa. He likes to go back to the good times and remember them. He simply misses them."
Songlist for a part 2 - Highway Song, Spiders, Suggestions, Deer Dance, Holy Mountains, Lost In Hollywood, Genocidal Humanoidz, Ego Brain, Roullete (maybe Soil or Know for heavier songs)
You need to get the wife into symphonic metal since she likes orchestral bands like Kamalot , Nightwish , Xandria , Serena , Epica , Ad Infintium , Delain and Within Temptation
Im trying to do a variety on their sound just like you did. There are alot of songs here, if you want less songs, you can take out one or 2 songs of the list, but you must keep cigaro, spiders, roulette, byob and protect the land. Spiders Bounce Toxicity Prison song Roulette Byob Cigaro >:) (please dont tell her ANYTHING about it) She's like heroin Lonely Day Protect the land
My daughter loved the South Park songs. So I burned a mix cd and included "Uncle F***er" and "Kyles Mom's a Bitch". Yeah, I'm swedish and don't care about "bad" words. She took it too school in like 5th grade. The teacher wasn't amused...
Nice reaction! Here are some suggestions, to go with your scheme I picked one/two songs per album, trying to expose a bit more of their political view and the quirky side. It souldn't sound too bad if you listen to it in this exact order: From System of a Down (1998): Spiders From Toxicity (2001): Prison Song, Toxicity From Steal This Album! (2002): F the system, Roulette Mezmerize (2005): Soldier Side + BYOB Hypnotize (2005): Hypnotize PS: Can't wait for In Flames episode
love the nails and respect bringing up Sabrina Carpenter in a metal video, i'm expecting to see some triggered metalheads in the comments edit: Arials IS a 10/10 absolute classic
Good pick with Aerials. My younger ignorant self never really cared for that song. Just last week I heard it in another reaction video and really appreciated and enjoyed it more. I guess it proves that people's taste in music also matures as we mature.
Also Chop Suey is played on the Bear like 8 times a day, System Of A Down and Edmonton have a deep connection part of the bands funding came from Daryl Kates, Also they have DVD recording of concert held at Rexall before it was closed as well.
Should have shown the uncensored version of Sugar with that opening with the news guy. SOAD is very political, which is why I love them. They bring news to you in musical form. I can respect that.
The album art of steal this album is even sarcastic, because at the time they released it, it was very comment to share the music through plattforms instead of buying it.
lol she's no longer a "normie" ... one of us one of us!! speaking of hiphop as she listened to any new metal? or is the more rap influenced like Public Enemy/Anthrax's bring on the noise.
Influence wise I can see the argument being made. The amount of people getting into metal from the Toxicity album seems absolutely huge. I don't know if I'd really put them on the same level. But there is no denying that it was a massive album for the entire metal scene to get to where it is today.
As a SOAD fan: This was horrible. You somehow managed to choose the most annoying song from each album, with maybe one or two exceptions. Just tell us you are a pop fan. Stop pretending.
Could never get into SOAD because god their voices are so bad and the harmonies are so disgusting it’s like it was done on purpose to sing so horribly together.

War? is another of my favs I'd love to see
Songs for Part 2:
Know, War?, Prison Song, Needles, Mr Jack, Cigaro, Holy Mountains and lastly Snowblind
She may like orchestral instruments in music, but is she prepared to go through a gauntlet of Fleshgod Apocalypse songs?

The PLOT THICKENS
Daron took Serj's dada free association lyrical stuff and couldnt quite pull it off so just writes lyrics about like, ppl he knows and places he's been to lmao
Part 2 simply MUST include Spiders and Prison Song! I'd also throw in Mr Jack, Boom!, and BYOB.
in myyyyyy heeeaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddd
Bro said vicinity of obscenity is their weirdest song, completely dismissing Cigaro😂
Cigaro atleast sounds good 😂
Don't forget bounce
My Songlist:
B.Y.O.B.
Lonely Day
Hypnotize
Toxicity
Aerials✅
These songs are so burnt into my head that I always hear the next song playing once the song you're listening to ends. I also agree that Mezmerize and Hypnotize are their best work!
Thank you. Those albums are beautiful
That's me with Blind Guardian's Somewhere Far Beyond.
31:15 Mezmerize also begins with Soldier side - intro, which is referenced also musically in Hypnotize's Soldier side! The 2 albums released in the same year bookend each other quite nicely this way
your song list is very good, as a big Daron and Hypnotize/Mezmerize era fan, the chosen songs were perfect!
I love that they can do these silly songs at the same time as the heavy political commentary.

You need to get the wife into symphonic metal since she likes orchestral bands like Kamalot , Nightwish , Xandria , Serena , Epica , Ad Infintium , Delain and Within Temptation
i'm actually very happy with the song selection, well done
If she likes "wholesome" feelings in metal she should listen Electric Callboy!!!
Peephole, Suggestions, Prison Song, Deer Dance, Ego Brain, Highway Song, Roulette, Question!, lost in Hollywood, Attack, Stealing Society, and their newest song, Genocidal Humanoidz.
Suggestions for a part 2 playlist:
Spiders, Prison Song, Science and Needles.
Very happy seeing the In Flames spoiler at the end. Are you doing melodeath next ep? If so I am very excited.
Yeah!
we got her :o
So wholesome episode, good job
these videos are great! keep putting them out!
We all had that time when we look back on our first metal song and think it isnt quite as heavy as we remembered it
She probably heard Aerials in trailers for movies in the mid 2000's, i believe it was used in a few.
She might like Mastodon since they have multiple singers and each album is pretty different
This series makes my day every time, thank you!
Im trying to do a variety on their sound just like you did. There are alot of songs here, if you want less songs, you can take out one or 2 songs of the list, but you must keep cigaro, spiders, roulette, byob and protect the land.
Spiders
Bounce
Toxicity
Prison song
Roulette

Cigaro >:) (please dont tell her ANYTHING about it)
She's like heroin
Lonely Day
Protect the land
I wanna see you just go all out and see her reaction to Deathcore, Lorna Shore, Slaughter to Prevail, Face Yourself, Etc.
i'd love to hear your guys take on the songs up for metal grammys this year!
Pantera next pls my love
Heaviest female vocal ever for the next video: Face Yourself - Grosse Baragge!
SoaD is life

Man... imagine her experiencing nu metal... Hell, hip hop/metal collaborations... since the EIGHTIES!!!
I think I can still do the whole Toxicity album almost word for word.
13:48 have you ever show her the "Drowning pool: I can only count to four" music ?!😂
Can't wait for Electric Callboy
WAKE UP🗣🗣
We need a part 2 with spiders, soldier side intro, prision song, cigaro and byob, maybe if she likes softer music add lonely day
"I don't really like hip hop and I like some metal so technically I like metal more than hip hop".
We for sure take that. Huge W.
We need a wife reacts to black metal episode, i think she would like Ulver and Agalloch more folkish songs
add Dissection
@@A-Mor-Graalalso dimmu borgir with progenies and other songs with orchestra
Mgła would be good choice too, for me it was the band that got me into Black Metal with their song "Exercises in futility V"

I always enjoyed Radio/Video but it never seemed favoured by reactors and that made me sad. Glad to see you included it!
We're you at the utah hockey match there was a shot of you two on tv pretty cool🤘
I think that was my brother, him and I look almost identical lol
26:55 if you haven’t, show her Slipknot, they do the similar softer more clean chorus and aggressive verse
If she appreciates the weirdness of SOAD, she should dip her toes into some Faith No More. Mike Patton and the boys might deliver a fun reaction.
Leprosy is the best death album fight me
Square up homie 🤣

Can't believe there was no Pizza Pie
But there WAS banana banana banana terracotta pie!

Songs for Part 2 I would love her to listen :
Innervision, Marmalade, Question, Highway Song, Tentative, and PLUCK or Cubert
Evelyn would absolutely enjoy Bounce lol. Great vid as always
I wonder what she would think of Devin Townsend. He’s got a wide variety also
VARVIS AND WIFE FOREVER
Ik everyone loves everything after their first album but god do I love their first album I think it’s their best

Yeah not even close to anything from early Metallica.

@ That does explain why modern metal is so all over the place. They were influenced by SOAD.
