Downey has said that for him "the role was like the ghost of Christmas Future", since his drug habit resulted in him becoming an "exaggeration of the character" in real life.

What is also so heartbreaking is that in Real Life Kevin McCarthy had addiction problems but became a successful director working on Orange Is The New Black.

Especially after realizing Julien was practically forced. He had gone to say he wanted to sober up and that he would find a way to pay RIP back.
He obviously did not want to keep being pimped/prostituted, and wanted to go sober.
Julien really deserved so much better

I don't think he's suppose to be gay...based on the fact he's deep into drugs and has large debts, he was probably just tryingto get some money or dope out of the deal. Addicts are sometimes that bad.

Because he owed so much money, Rip decided that in order to pay him back, being pimped/prostitueted would be a good solution. But it was obvious he did not want to.
They used the drugs against him to manipulate him. The scene before this happened he had gone to tell Rip he wanted to quit and that he would find a way to pay him back

Oh he's not gay. Desperate times mean desperate measures. Did you ever read Jackie Collins Hollywood Wives, Buddy Hudson an aspiring Actor ran away at 16 after his Mother's inappropriate behavior towards him, his Friend Randy set him up with his "Manager" whom everyone called Gladrags because of his Fashion Sense. He told Gladrags he didn't want "Male Customers". In American Gigolo Julian Kaye begged Leon James for a alibi, saying he'd work for him, and he'd do "Fags" and "Kink" but it didn't pan out.

You can be a Friend, Supporter to an Addict but sometimes they bring you down. Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys hit rock bottom in December 1983. He was Broke, Homeless, lost his Boat due to Tax Issues, and and kicked out of The Beach Boys. They pleaded, threatened, yelled but he didn't listen. His Friend George let him stay at his House, a Couple of days later he came home from Work and The Room where he entertained where he had his Music with Large Irreplaceable Tapes and a Pool Table, were ruined and George kicked Dennis out and hon Xmas Day he was Homeless. He died on December 28th 1983. In an eerie Co-Incidence, Corrie Ten Boom got released from Ravensbrouck Concentration Camp in 1944 due to a clerical error.

@@truthseeker2891 you're close. He was disowned because after his chance at a record label company failed, he started doing drugs. He is in debt and since he is practically homeless, he has no way to pay back.
The drug dealer PIMPS/PROSTITUTES him deciding that that would be the only way Julien, the guy in the white shirt, woumd pay him back
In fact before this scene, he had gone to the drug dealer saying he wanted to sober up and that he would pay him back since he managed to talk again with his father, promising that he would TRY to stay sober at least a week because he needed help.
But the guy didn't like that and since he was trapped he was forced (pimped) to do this. His friend finds him because the drug dealer sent someone to look after julien, resulting in the trashing of their friends house.
This movie literally deals with the consequences of drug addictions and withdrawal.
Don't judge the movie based on this scene where a character who obviously is in need of help and looking for a way out, being forced to have sex with another man
