Video idea/question for your next Q&A video: as a non-Muslim fan of your channel, I’d love a brief overview of Islamic/Arabic weddings. You’ve addressed a lot of this stuff in your engagement and religious ceremony videos, but I think it would be so interesting and educational! (But also, if you’re rolling your eyes at “sure, I’d love nothing more than to educate you,” forget I asked! 😝) Congratulations and I’m excited to watch the planning process play out in real time!
Hey! There's definitely a distinction between the two (islamic/arabic). When you say arabic you're referring to the cultural elements of traditionnal arabic (or pakistani, indian, turkish, etc) weddings, which are not always related to islamic elements, and sometimes even slightly contradictory. When it comes to the islamic wedding, or the islamic way to legitify a union between muslim spouses in front of Allah (God), it is called NIKKAH and it is extremely simple. The requirements are very easy: First there needs to be a proposal, either from the woman or the man (in the case of our prophet mohammed sws's first wife, for example, she was the one that proposed to him). Then, there is Qubool, which is the acceptance of the proposal. There needs to be at least 2 muslim adult male witnesses to attest that both the bride and the groom accept from their own free will. The "Wali", or guardian, is the one who gives the daughter in marriage, with her consent obviously. It is usually her father, and if he is deceased, her brother, uncle, etc. Finally, there is something called mahr, which is a gift that the bride chooses and that the groom must give (to HER, not to her FAMILY, which sometimes happens and is not religiously acceptable. its an example of divergence between islam and culture). The mahr or gift can be literally anything: a sum of money, jewelry, a trip, or even something small. Lastly, to make the nikkah (marriage) official, the couple and the witnesses must sign a contract that attests of the agreement. Those are all the MANDATORY requirements for a muslim marriage to be official. . Then, there are also MUSLIM TRADITIONS (not arabic/paki/etc , but muslim, which means traditions that come from our prophet sws, other elements that HE RECOMMENDED to add to the nikkah). For example, in islamic tradition, the nikkah is led by an imam (the man who leads the prayer in the mosque, kind of like the pastor in christiannity). He will conduct the ceremony, read some quran, give some words of advice, etc. A marriage banquet is ALSO part of tradition: inviting family, friends, etc. That part is called the Walima, and is held right after the nikkah. It doesnt have to be something extravagant, it can be very simple and modest. That is everything for the islamic wedding part. Anything extra that you have seen or heard of is cultural and will vary (sometimes a lot) from a place/country to another. Also, nowadays, there are often western influences in arabic marriages. I hope this comment helps you a little! (sorry if I mad any spelling mistakes). If you have any questions feel free to ask, ill try to give u an answer.
I haven’t been to a Palestinian American wedding, but if you’re going to have a zaffa and debke that’s going to be a good time! I’m really excited to see how everything works out for the planning.
Highly recommend watching Jamie Wolfer on here. She’s a planner and provides a ton of tips, and things I wouldn’t have thought. I’m not married, but like you, I enjoy wedding content
If you aren’t legally married yet, are you doing that the same day? Also, Costa Rica is a great honeymoon destination. It’s in the same time zone as Texas but a very different vibe than Mexico. It’s honestly prettier than Hawaii and quite affordable. Personally I like the Caribbean side better but the big resorts are on the pacific side.
I agree with leena, I woke up at 2pm every day in Greece for the first 3 days. Maybe look into Hawaii or Puerto Rico for your honey moon❤️ the beaches are stunning.
Hi Amanda, love your videos, esp. the wedding content!! Just wanted to say, if you haven’t booked your honeymoon since filming this I highly recommend taking the plunge and making your honeymoon somewhere special that you won’t get to go to that often! My husband and I flew out to Paris the day after our wedding and went on a 12 day European cruise and we both agree that it was the best thing we ever did! Of course we were tired after the wedding but you only have your honeymoon once and it’s definitely the cherry on top of having a beautiful wedding!
You don’t understand how helpful this is Amanda! Mashallah may Allah bless you and your family. I’m currently going through preparations and it’s very stressful.
Maa Shaa Allah you're so beautiful and this content was actually really helpful as I'll be getting married in the near future in Shaa Allah, I hope everything goes smoothly and that you're wedding turns out exactly as you want it too!❤️
Love your content! I would highly suggest looking into getting a day of planner so the day of you do not have to worry about anything and your family can relax too!
I think you will look stunning when you wear your hair up. Maybe you can make a video about wedding hair styles and you would show how it looks up or down etc. ❤️
Don't discount a wedding planner. They can be your biggest advocate during your wedding week and on your wedding day. Caterers not setting up correctly? The planner's on it for you. Bridesmaids don't know exactly when to line up? The planner directs them. DJ can't find where to park or where the elevator is? The planner takes the call. Basically, they are there to take all the stress and worry off your shoulders. If anything goes wrong, they take care of it so that you can just enjoy your day.
I’m so happy for you Amanda 7 months to go I just want to say it’s ok to be nervous but remember to be happy smile and can’t wait for you to show us your new chapter in life Inshallah ❤️❤️❤️❤️ enjoy the process ✨✨✨ love you so much ❤️❤️❤️ I’m so excited for you 🤩🤩
you make the major decision together like the venue? food, music? Will there be dj or band? and why 2 dresses?? I like the way you are splitting the the expenses.
If you wanna do something that’s fun and relaxing for the honeymoon, Hawaii is always a good idea because it’s beautiful and it’s still in the states so traveling won’t be that bad.
I know you’ve been a lot to Mexico but there are other countries that are nice too. Colombia it’s very nice, people are sooo nice there you’ll feel very welcome :) also, Costa Rica, is gorgeous. I’m Peruvian but I think going to Peru is more adventurous that relaxing. Beaches in Colombia and Costa Rica are better.
I would love an overview of how an Arab wedding works. Is there no ceremony? Also I think lots of people are doing a second dress nowadays. I just went to a couple wedding recently, one had the bride wearing two white dresses, just the second one was easier to dance in and the other wedding, the second dress was a pretty green color whereas the first dress was white since those were the colors of the wedding.
The ceremony is done before the wedding. The religious ceremony can be done on its own in a mosque, hall, etc etc or can be done on the engagement of the couple which many Arab cultures do. Most North Africans have the religious ceremony a couple days before the wedding while majority middle eastern couples have it when they get engaged.
Okay hear me out! Turkey!!! It's so beautiful I have already been with my family and am going for my honeymoon also since I loved it so much but I will be visiting other cities I have not yet been to. I do recommend going on a honeymoon a week after the wedding and not the day after. Although that is not what is normally done I just see it that way as the first week of marriage you just want to be together regardless of where you are as you are just getting to know the person and getting used to sharing a room and what not together. So in my opinion it doesn't matter where you are first week of marriage it is like a honeymoon in itself just being with the person for the first time after the wedding and once you have settled in a little and are ready you can then go on a honeymoon and enjoy the activities and exploring as you would have already had the quality time together and some rest after the wedding so you can now enjoy doing activities together and focusing on exploring a new place together rather than just wanting to be in a hotel room getting to know your partner in a new marriage form if that makes any sense.
Aww MashaAllah, I LOVED this video and am excited to follow this series, iA! Question: (If you feel comfortable sharing), are you doing pre-marital counseling? Any insights or advice on preparing to be a married couple in terms of merging your lives emotionally, financially, etc? ❤️
You should do a video showing us your wedding prep hair and skincare routine. I am curious to know what u r doing to get your hair and skin ready for your big day. I love you and your content! 😊❤️
A suggestion for your honeymoon : we went to Mauritius because it had fun activities (including touching a lion, zip lining etc) and also it's known as "paradise on earth" because of its surreal beauty so we had that exotic island feel to it as well which we really wanted. We had the best time
Getting married in about 6 months as well! So excited to be planning at the same time 🥳 PS the venue/catering issue was so annoying for me, and my splurging is definitely happening on the venue itself cause i decided to get married in a castle of all places 🤦🏻♀️
In my culture the grooms family pays for everything, restaurant, the food, the music, the wedding dress literally everything. And the weddings don’t cost a lot 10k will cover the entire wedding along with the side expenses.
Honestly because we are US based there’s gonna be a pretty significant time difference for any travel going outside the USA. You only get a honeymoon once and traveling isn’t that hard when you are alone and don’t have children yet. My husband and I live in California and we went to Istanbul, Turkey for our honeymoon and hopped over to Amman Jordan to meet my husbands family since majority of them are based there. Embrace your honeymoon and freedom of not being parents yet!
Im happily married with two kids. My one advise is to have an adventurous long honeymoon. Yes, please travel internationally, go to somewhere u both havent seen. Inshallah in the near future you’ll have kids and travelling will have soo many constraints, even if you traveled without your kids, its not the same, you canot leave them for long and you’ll think about them all the time 💗
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been binging all your wedding videos getting prepared for mine in a few weeks!! I had a question, how did you end up doing the officiating for your marriage? I’m in San Antonio and having the hardest time getting someone to do a Muslim one. I read it’s still halal if we just use a judge at the courthouse or regular officiant, but I’d like your advice if possible on how you did yours please 🙏 Also every time I watch your wedding video is throws me back to my childhood when my parents would take me to weddings, I can’t stop dancing and smiling in my seat at yours 💕 you looked amazing and you seem so happy, I’m very happy for you and your wonderful time in starting this new chapter of your life, Amanda 🥰
Is the nikah legally binding in the US, or do y'all just skip that part? (I'm from a country were you must have a courthouse ceremony before even allowed a religious ceremony, so I'm not sure how things work)
I had something similar for my wedding I’m Catholic though and Mexican I was married a few years legally then I was married in the church and a lot of people do not consider your marriage valid until you have your religious marriage I hope you enjoy this time ❤️
It is different everywhere in Mexico. My ex's daughter had a church wedding at 14 with a 27 year old, then a legal one at 18. Didn't know the guy was my age until last year. I was pretty mad too, because he thinks it is normal for the age gaps.
Amanda, I see you have the bodysuit ur wearing linked but the link shows a vneck bodysuit and the one your wearing isn't a vneck. Is it on the same sit?
