- How to use the apostrophe S in English.
Where do I put the apostrophe?
When do I put apostrophe S and when just an apostrophe?
In this English grammar lesson we look at when to use the apostrophe S and when to only use an apostrophe.
We start by looking at the three meanings of Apostrophe S at the end of a word. Then we start focusing on Possessive Nouns which is a word ending in apostrophe S which is then followed by a noun.
We look at the following rules:
✅ Singular nouns NOT ending in S
✅ Plural nouns ending in S
✅ Plural nouns that do not in S
✅ Singular nouns ending in S
✅ Names of people that end in S
✅ Apostrophes with two or more people
✅ No noun after apostrophe S
✅ Apostrophe S with periods of time
✅ Decades / Years - No apostrophe
✅ Plural forms of Acronyms
Apostrophe S is also know as the Genitive Case or Possessive Case.
It is important to learn these written English grammar rules if you are taking an International English exam such as IELTS or TOEFL.

I loved this!!!! I have a question, how can we express ownership when an objetc belongs to another object?
My daughter's barbie's dog's toy. It looks weird, but it's an example on how you would use it. It means They toy of the dog of the barbie of my daughter. I doesn't have to be that long of course, but I hope you get the idea.

Is this statement correct:
"When you telling the time, for minutes 31-59 we read:
Minutes = [31 --> twenty-nine, 32 --> twenty-eight, ... 59 --> one]
then TO
then Hour = Successor of current hour"
?

What does mean a year plus apostrophe , for exemple in 1950's . Thanks
I mention this at the end of the video. There should be NO apostrophe. This is a common mistake.
Happy New year Woodward . I wish all your Dreams Come true .
May God bless you.
@@WoodwardEnglish
Actually, when contracting the year by omitting the century, you do add an apostrophe, albiet before the decade. 1960s is correct, 1960's is not. 60's is wrong, but so is 60s. It should be written as '60s. It's an example of a contraction, and the apostrophe indicates where the word was cut. Much like the apostrophe in they're indicates where the "a" in "they are" was ommited.
thanks!
Undersood..thanks
Glad it helped

Great video! What if I want to show possession between two objetcs? Like the Parking Lot of the Restaurant?
Some people use an 's in that case .... the restaurant's parking lot.
@@WoodwardEnglish awesome. Thank you. What if I say the Restaurant Parking lot without the 's. Would it mean something different?

Thank's sir! It is correct?
We don't use an apostrophe to make a noun plural.
No, it's not.
Thank u sir ,for this lesson.
Uuu are classic.
My pleasure
I have a doubt 😳 when to use (THE) the family John is at the park or John's family is at the park. both are correct or not 😣 am I wrong
Only "John's family" is correct.
What about, the Johns (family) are at the park. Is it correct?
When using at (the park) and when, in (the park)?
Thanks in advance 🤗
Is it Alex’ or Alex’s correct?
Alex's
Hello sir really you're great teacher, thx so much for lesson i've one question plz which one of the sentences is correct??
1- Stacy and Steve's friend James.
2- Stacy and Steves' friend James.
I explain this at the end of the video.
What do you think?
@@WoodwardEnglish sorry sir but i'm confused a little between these sentences 🙁
I think the second one is correct cos when we talk about two persons should put apostrophe after" S " OMG i really confused 😫
Well, too late indeed, but it's the first one.
@@fydydigysi1063 Understand the rule:
1)Noun1 and Noun2 (belongs to common/same family)= N1 and N2’ +N(sing)
Eg: Tom and David’s mum is coming to the party.
2) N1and N2(other family/ doesn’t common)= N1’s and N2’s + N (plu)
Eg: Tom’s and David’s wives are coming to the party.
Thanks!
He’s the best ever
Congratulation
