I found a larger brass numeral 8 on a 2d Seminole war site..looking into it I read that the 8th infantry was formed during the Seminole war to deploy to duty in Florida..the 8th would continue to serve over the years in other conflicts
Awesome video JP, Ryan and Mike! Congrats on the finds! Living down here in Texas, we just didn't have the Civil War activity you guys had. I always look forward to your videos to get my dose of Civil War Metal Detecting as I really only get a chance here and there to come up to Virginia and metal detect. Look forward to your next video and Best of Luck on you next metal detecting adventure!
Great finds! I'd love to get on a spot like that! I did however find my first great seal button tonight, can I ask what's best to clean it up? Thank you
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked it. Several people use different things for buttons. Some use lemon juice and some use ammonia. I prefer ammonia but to each their own. God bless. JP Hunts
I have a unknown Civil War camp, A friend 20 years ago showed me a belt buckle he found there, believe it or not, its still vacant woods and they have never built anything on it all these years, I've walked through the land many times and fished near it, never asked permission from anyone, Do you think it would be OK to metal detect there now, No posted ( No Trespass signs anywhere) Would it be legal if I went there to detect? I even remember a 20-40 foot horizontal mound I think was used to peek over it to monitor the river, So it may have been a busy camp. I know this sound off the wall, But I bought a old book from the (Big Brick House I got in 1979) in Falls Church, Like a old flea market house, after church, The book was a civil war book, In it was a map with a bold black ( X ) at this location, Its been haunting me for years.
I recommend doing research to find out who the land owner is. When you discover who the land owner is than contact them and get permission to be on the property. Once you have permission you are good to detect to your heart content. I do recommend you get the land owners phone number in the event that you ever get questioned or stopped you can call the land owner if necessary to confirm your permission with anyone questioning you. Good luck. I hope this helps. Definitely don’t just go on it just because it’s not posted the land is own by someone. Find out who!!
Hopefully soon. The hot temperatures and snakes don’t mix well. Lol 😂 this is our slow time of year but we will definitely be picking up soon as we come back into the detecting season.
