  • A registered nurse, Prince Ovwiomodiowho, has accused a private hospital in Lagos State, R Jolad Hospital, Agege, of alleged negligence and failure to provide adequate care, which reportedly led to the death of his wife, Loveth, and unborn son, already named Jason.
The distraught man told the ladies Healthwise, that his late wife started ante-natal at the hospital in 2023 but reportedly bled to death on March 8, 2024, shortly after undergoing a cesarean section.
Ovwiomodiowho insisted that the lack of a competent surgical team and equipment were factors that contributed to the untimely death of his wife and baby.
He lamented that long hours of induction led to the rupture of his late wife’s uterus, causing heavy bleeding.
    Laolu Idowu
Recounting the traumatic events that unfolded during his wife’s stay at the private hospital, Ovwiomodiowho said, “I have been in despair, unimaginable trauma, prolonged pain, and unending sorrow since March 8, 2024, following the gruesome murder of my precious wife Loveth and innocent son, Jason.

Nobody should blame Mr Prince. He is torn between emotions and professionalism and couldn't do better except someone who is mentally and emotionally balanced is present to help him reason rightly. And that should be the work of the doctors and nurses. May the Lord help and comfort your family in time like this.

My God! As a mother and a L&D nurse in the US, my whole body is shaking uncontrollably, hearing this man describe what his family went through due to gross negligence. The magnitude of his loss & the frustration of him being a very knowledgeable & skilled healthcare provider & be there to witness such incompetence of other healthcare providers with his loved ones is so aching to hear. If that’s happening to someone with knowledge who advocated for his wife & son & could afford what was supposed to be good care with a private hospital, I can’t even begin to fathom what might be the experience of someone without medical knowledge or money.
May God comfort & strengthen him 🙏🏾

What kind of hospital is this? Oh my goodness. One thing I learnt from my late mum who was a midwife trained abroad and better than some doctors in Nigeria when it comes to delivery is to always go to a recognised hospital with all the right personnel needed for emergencies. The consultant and anaesthetist should have been there all along. I am so sad. Please take heart. You sound more intelligent and experienced than the staff in that hospital. May their souls RIP

We should not be quick to judge without hearing from the hospital first. It is unfortunate that he lost his wife and child but there were some inconsistencies in his story or should I say things he deliberately left out to exonerate himself. One of such was the issue of cesarean section that was offered, he said he was not offered CS but he mentioned having a court order against that. This means he declined CS and that changed everything. There is another part of the story that is left unsaid. This is not to exonerate the hospital but I know how difficult jehova witnesses can be. I have had to watch children die because their parents refused blood transfusion. Much of the report is just show of knowledge and nothing more, even in the best hospitals in the world things are not done as he mentioned, thats just theoritical knowledge. I just hope the doctors documented everything that happened. This one sided story is unreliable.

@teeooh691 Yes, he is a jehova witness. Hospitals don't like granting interviews on issues like this because interviews will most likely break the confidentiality of the patients. In addition the man is in grief, it's not proper to respond but I believe they will release an official report soon.

The truth is hardly anyone would take a patient already actively in labour to a different hospital. It's easier to know what you should have done ONLY in hind sight because you already know the outcome now. You'd think you stand a better chance with the hospital that has your medical history than beginning to shop for a hospital at the first sign of danger. He would be blaming himself more if this happened due to a hasty decision he took without thoughts.

Such a sad story, but am sorry to say this, the husband actually recognised all the red flags in this hospital, I would have expected him to take his wife to a standard hospital where appropriate obstetrics care can be given. He has all the knowledge to prevent him from being victim of this hospital. May God grant him grace to cope with the loss.

It's easier said than done. You are speaking on the benefit of hindsight. There is no way to predict the future. No one would willingly take the risk on their loved ones if they could foretell the danger they would face.
Moreover, for someone in such a critical state, you can't just take her like that in a vehicle to another hospital. It would require putting her a well-equipped ambulance and trainned ambulance medical personnel to take her to another hospital, which from the look of things was likely also not available at the hospital.

The wife did not want General Hospital experience and opted for private hospital. The Consultant was an OB/GYN who reassured them of proper care during labor and delivery.
The problem here is the Consultant and his team did not deliver on what he promised. A woman in labor must be consistently monitored till she delivers her baby safely and for up to 24 hours post delivery.
The husband witnessed the unfolding experience along with his wife and could not move her out of that hospital in such.a state of labor .

No matter what you know, when your loved one is hospitalized you are nothing but a patient's relative.
I've been there you can't really do much, you are simply at their mercy. And when you call their attention to something that is abnormal they dismiss your concerns and when you insist, they say you are trying to show. This is really sad.
This death could have been avoided, I'm pained.

First if all,the deceased's husband allowed the tragedy to happen, even if your requested for management of the hospital,as a senior healthcare practitioner, use your decision making skill to transfer your wife to another hospital if they can't do the right thing to the point of assisting here and there, yes you can do this is not an emergency you didn't see coming.
As for the hospital, why open a hospital without qualified nurses and doctors, why the induction with a mother carrying a macrosonic fetus, not to even talk about phases of induction, how can a consultant of which field i don't know be adamant about a history of a pregnant woman with a big baby.
This is totally unprofessional practice, gross misconduct and negligence that warrant every body involved to be severely punished.
