I will be upgrading my AP from Unfi Ubiquiti over to Netgear. My network layout is a mix of cat 6 and cat 7 cablings thru out my home/buisness. The security appliance and switches and so on are a mix of Ubiquiti and Cisco gear. I have a Gigabit side of the network and then I have a 10/100 for printers and security cams. I will also have a 10 lan network as well for file transfers between computers and servers.
@@ab1965 Most can in one way or another. There's usually 2 primary methods of doing so. Repeating which uses the same SSID and radio to rebroadcast down the line. There's also 'Mesh' and there's a dozen different ways of doing this from different vendors. Similar to repeating, but uses an additional / spare radio to connect the repeater to the router, and then its main radio to rebroadcast the primary SSID.
Thank a lot. that's just the video I was looking for... Thanks ! is it possible connect it to a TAGGED switch Port (trunk port) in Order to Create multiple VLANS SSID according to existing VLANS on the TAGGED Switch Port ?
I hope it does, I'm waiting for this device to be delivered to me in the next couple of days and I bought with this specific feature in mind. It never crossed my mind that this could be not supported by this model...
Hi, if using this Netgear AP, what will happened if our Insight subscription plan expired and we do not renew it? Can we still configure the WiFi AP using local browser? What happened to the apps that we installed on our smartphone will it not functioning? thanks...
has anyone ever had an issue with your phone switching to SOS mode only when connecting to the access point. For some reason my phone will go into SOS mode only when i go from my house wifi to this access point in my shop ?
looking at the Y version for outdoors.. although might be possible to toss into a box and mount an indoor outside if weather not too extreme... need to connect to remote building with WPA3 and monitor a DVR with analogue 4k cameras, so not all talking on my LAN, and share to my home office, then extend the wifi to yard in front of that building so people outside there can get on my wifi... I see the EnGenius has that option, can designate 1 radio for 1 function and the other for another.. so trying to decide what device will suit my needs.. thanks..
i have 3 floors. I want to have an access point on each floor, but I don't want to have 3 SSIDs. I want to have one that I sign into and have the device connected, such as a phone, switch to the most powerful connection (not wait until there is literally no connection then drop). How can I do this? Thanks. running the sax3600 dual band poe+ and a nighthawk router. also a netgear 24 port switch that these 2 access points will plug into.
Configure each one with the same SSID and security, just try different channels, for 2.4 recommended are 1,6,11 , and for 5ghz any its ok just different on each one
Yes, if you have more than 1 of these devices you can configure them to act as a mesh network and the AP's will hand off clients back and forth depending on the distance from the closest AP.
Might be a dumb question (I am not tech savvy), but here it is: When setting up the AP wireless name (SSID), does the wireless name have to be different than that of my wireless router network name? And if so, does that mean each access point (if I need more than one) must have a different network name? Also...if there is a need for multiple, different SSIDs (router, plus access points) will my wifi/smart home devices end up being connected across different SSIDs (I'm assuming based on each device's physical location within the house)? I dont want to have to connect/reconnect to different networks all the time, especially for devices I move around throughout my house, especially my cell phone
No, you can (and even should) configure the same SSID, Authentication method and password on all your APs and wi-fi router. Your mobile device will be disconnected anyway, but should re-connect automatically within a few seconds when you move around.
Netgear certainly has got lazy these days. A router that does not come with an adapter but requires poe. Gotta download a stinking app which means i gotta use a stinking so called "smartphone" to set it up? no disks or setup from pc? Bet if it did I would have to download some "app" from that no good rotten microsoft store. I have been a netgear fan for a couple decades now, but I think I will pass on this one.
I'm right there with you Fred. For the sake of security, I straight up refuse to give another stupid phone app access to my information. I only use wireless, in the home, for a couple devices anyway, wired is by far much more secure (obviously). I never have been willing to trade convenience for security though. I might be a minority but wired isn't that difficult to run and it stays rock solid 100% of the time, once you do it.
Why not review the setup guide for the AP before making and decision. Once the configuration is completed it will be fine. Besides if you provide physical access to it. Then your network security is already compromised. This is why you install it out of reach for best distribution and access control. Besides most APs that are POE then it usually doesn’t come with a power adapter. This is generally geared towards small businesses. A unmanaged Poe switch or power injector aren’t that much and allows and more seamless deployment when you mount it up high as most would do.

I connected this WAP to extend my current network SSID, but no internet connection can be made. Any ideas?
Does it really need to be access to the router Poe box.
no speedtest?
Yes he seemed to review everything except performance.. waste of a video but perhaps as its a "sponsored" video he wasn't allowed to which is worrying
No pass through port? Can you manage via insight remotely? can you manage via web browser?
do they support G/N/AC still?
Do I need to pay monthly
Can it be used as a repeater as well?
Yes, if you use same device from nergear, they call it mesh network.
No speedtest demonstration???
Hi there, please make a tutorial video about vlan on network for beginners.
Anything specific you'd like to know?
@@seantellsit1431 I would like to know if the access point can be used to extend the reach of the signal from the router

Good question my brother has the problem and it seems to be you can’t!
Or is there a solution?
Does this AP support more than a gig wireless? I'm going to be getting a 2 gig service and want to know if I'll benefit from these.
Yes amigo
Depends on your clients but don’t expect huge leaps over a wave 2 AC access point.

So, have you actually tested real speeds?
can it be setup auto reboot in the management menu?
Can you still do the setup using the app if there's no Wi-Fi in the house yet?
Yes. WAX610 supports local WebUI. it needs internet for Optional Insight manager.
I miss a iperf speedtest
My router is wifi 5 if i buy this accespoint do i have then wifi 6 ?
disable your router wifi and use wifi6 into the access point
Can this connect to a remote router via wireless, share to a switch, and also share wifi around unit?
Extender access point. I think is term ?

Looks just like an Engenius unit.
Different Software and feature sets on WAX610.
I take it since you can get a version with a Power Adapter, you can just plug it into standard ethernet without the a PoE Switch.
i have one with poe and power adapter options. my switch is not poe so i had to install an outlet and use the power adapter.
If I have more than one of theese APs, will my devices switch automatically between the APs depending of the signal strength?
